Good 2c ur appreciating this g8 car. My 17CGTS is running over 500 RWH at stage 3 / 0-60 in 3.2 secs, these cars are easily the best bang for bucks Porsche have ever built!!! Period. 👉🚙💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨👍👍👍👍

I personally think the opposite in terms of gearbox!
Na - pdk, due to the lack of low end torque you need those shorter gears to keep you on the boil.
Turbo - manual, so you can enjoy the manual box more with that slug of mid range torque!

The 2.5L 718 is simply awesome to drive and packs a performance punch to be celebrated. Funny how hung up people are over little downgrade from the growler. I own both the NA 987.1 flat six and 718 gts turbo and completely satisfied with the driving experience and sound differences of both engine types. Mid engine heroes all of them can’t go wrong

The best thing about it is Porsche never make a dull sports car. So the car is already great from the get go. Its a wonderful platform and makes a great daily driver. PDK is fun and easy to use, plus the tuning capabilities of the turbo flat 4 can give you a real hike in power over the N/A. Thanks for watching :)

    • @1ROCKY89
      @1ROCKY89 4 года назад +2

I agree if NA then manual. If turbo then PDK and that’s what I’ve done. I appreciate the turbo is quiet, and the NA is loud. Best of both worlds. You said it best Jay think of the turbo as a new car. It certainly is and quite under rated it seems. It certainly isn’t lacking anywhere in performance and stock it outperforms the new GT4. I hadn’t really thought about tuning it. Well not until now at least :) thanks for making this great video

spot on, i think that advising against the 718T is mis informed. The experience of the growler boxer 4 is brilliant plus the torque low down will embarrass the NA version. Buy it with confidence and enjoy. The nonsense about resales has also proved to be wrong so get going!
I am also very aware of the direct appeal of the flat 6, i have my order in so hopefully will get my hands on one BUT in the meantime the my S is a cracking car, more smiles and enjoyment than 3 991’s

Or, is the prior presence of the tune easily identified such that any warranty would be invalidated?

The woman (70+) who sold me her GTS 2.5t already received her new 4.0. She told me she was a bit sad to let go the 2.5 as she found out it was much more powerful (I guess she appreciated the low end torque for daily driving)… I didn’t want to ask more questions but was quite happy with her genuine feed-back. Anyway, I couldn’t afford the 4.0 as a 60k€ CO2 tax applies in France.

I know this video is old now, and his general review is good, however, living with the 2.5t is WAY better than the NA engine.
It’s more tractable and efficient. It’s a bloody amazing car and I have driven a LOT of cars.
The GTS Turbo is about as perfect as a sports cars as you can get….

  • @AdamHaysPhotography

I hear the same all over RUclips about the sound. Once you change the exhaust to something aftermarket it opens up and sounds pretty dog gone good. May not scream like a flat 6 but every event I go to the Porsche folks say the same thing. "I did not expect that". I'm running the "Soul Street Package". People always review with the stock exhaust and say that the sound is the only reason not to buy this car. It creates a culture of hate on the 2.5L. People hated my car and never even heard on in person. i have change so many Porsche folks opinions.

Interesting, I am two or three months away from buying my first Porsche and I'm really stuck between two choices. Do I dig deep and find £70k- £75k for a Carrera 2S 991.2 or suck up the loss of the glorious flat 6 sound, get all the GTS trimmings, arguably better handling etc and save £15k? I'm currently edging toward 718 but I flip/flop. This video definitely helps!

I’m still having the same argument. But I’m leaning toward saving the extra money and going for the 718.
Everything is a compromise, right? But on balance, I don’t need rear seats and much as the sound is a big factor, the 718 will give me a very modern Porsche, later tech (even CarPlay is a consideration!) and is probably objectively a better sports car.
      But then….the 911 is an icon! 🤦‍♂️
I’m probably 60/40 in favour of the 718.

Loved the videography and shots, excellent work (Y) also the review itself was spot on, really well said about everything, and everything was very well justified.
You were bang on when you said you need to think of it as a brand new car, instead of an updated cayman etc. unfortunately this is the future and the next ones are going to be hybrid/ electric
the new GTS 4.0 will also sound bad, due to the filters etc.
unfortunately it will always be overshadowed by the negative reviews of the turbo, but ignoring that Its a perfect car; setup, chassis, steering, luggage, Daily use, pace etc, really an amazing car

    I've got a 993 c4 and the 2.5 718 GTS.
It's such a strange situation I'm in , the performance of the 718gts is absolutely mind blowing , it's so well balanced. When I bought it I was disappointed with how it sounded , but I was comparing it to the 993 and a 360 spider , so I guess that's expected.
After 18 months of ownership I love it, but there is just more drama when you sit into a 993 at lower speeds ( it's quite special , even the door handles have character )
To truly enjoy the 718 you need to drive it fast , and unfortunately on the country roads that means you are kind of playing with fire, it's such a capable car, personally I love how it sounds , I've grown to love it, the pops and bangs as you down shift etc.
The other day my brother took the 993 out for a spin, and when he came back it sounded like there was a pissed off lion or tiger outside 😂
If I had my time back or have gotten the 997 for similar pricing.
