I purchased my Porsche Cayman 718 GTS May 7th 2019 and have already taken it over 12K miles and I love it!! I also retired with 40 years of military and fed service May 2019. My Cayman GTS has the red stiching inside and no GPS, but its a great car. I enjoyed your first review of the 718 so much I went out and purchased one the same month I retired. The launch control is AMAZING and it will make you smile every time. I decided to drive the car to the Gym at the speed limit of 55 and managed 37.1mpg @ 45 miles traveled!!! On the other hand I drove thru a tank of gas from Grand Junction Colorado to Utah / Nevada line and averaged 27 mpg which an average speed of 85mph. I haven't gotten a ticket yet, but I do agree it doesn't get the attention of law enforcement. I did opt to buy a $600 Escort, just to be safe. My plan is to buy another Cayman once I turn over 125K miles in about two years. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that flat six for sure!! Oh yeah, I purchased the LED side light over at Porsche to replace those ugly yellow light covers on the side, plus I put ceramic light tint to block out the UV. It makes it a lot cooler inside the car when it's 110F outside. I found the clear glass to get too hot when driving thru the desert in Southern California. It's amazing how many 911, corvette, etc drivers walk over to compliment me about the car. Car enthusiasts understand what this model is all about. The only thing I don't like about the car is the road noise. To be honest, you can hear a lot of road noise while cruising at 85, so its definitely not a Lexus. I just crank up the stereo a little more at speed. I was told by my Porsche dealer to expect only 35K miles max on tire wear. My tire dealer said they will cost me a little under 2K, but its worth it. The car feels like it is AWD. I haven't lit up the tires because the traction control solves that problem. I've only driven the car a few times in heavy rain and its amazing how it handles wet roads. I described this car to my salesman and Porsche dealership owner as it's like driving a high performance motorcycle, but your inside of an air conditioned cockpit with airbags. The most miles driven in one day in the 718 is 1300 miles. I'm 6'1" 220 pounds and I wasn't sore or uncomfortable at all. As you said in your vid the visibility is outstanding. You just feel you're part of the car when driving it, just flat out FUN (sub 4 sec 0-60 and 180mph top)!! Anyway, make sure you review the new high end 718 with the flat six when it comes out. I told my Porsche dealer, your first REDLINE review on the 718 GTS sold me and I purchased the exact model in May 2019 and haven't regretted it at all, Thanks Dude!!!

I got the 6 speed base model because I didn't want any extras inside or outside the car. It's the engine / drive that I want to experience. What a deal for $57k and you get a 300bhp car. The OEM exhaust bites for this turbo flat 4. I followed the advice of others by swapping out the OEM exhaust with an aftermarket cat back system. I got the AWE Touring version. There are other versions with a higher flow cat which eliminates the dual path exhaust. But what I assembled with the AWE product is just fine. I now have a different sounding car with a different throttle response (turbo lag was reduced). I have a Boxster S as well and yeah the flat 6 sound is great, but the guttural sound of the 718 has its merits. During high revs it sort of reminds me of flying in a small aircraft. For those who don't like the flat 4 concept, Porsche did this for years (1948-1965 Porsche 356, 1953-1956 Porsche 550, 1965-1969 Porsche 912 and 1969-1976 Porsche 914), mainly due to lower cost versions of cars and fuel economy.

I think the bigger picture is that we buy a Porsche to drive it - a lot. That does not work out on a lease with a max of 10,000 miles a year max (typical). Tbh, it's way better than a 981 if you have driven them both. Real sound is completely different from recorded ones on RUclips (turbos muffle the mid tone of every engine). Performance and chassis option on this car is awfully good especially the ptv option. This is a complete daily sports car that I literally drive it everyday effortlessly.
With its performance, handling and styling (a lot of improvement in interior and in-car temperature), if you think it is overpriced then you probably should look into the used market. What you are looking for is a used-manual-weekend car, which is of a completely different scope of this car. I honestly cannot find a replacement to this car within this price when it comes to skiing past corners in mountains. Stop talking about RS345 they are not even close in reality (they are good at dashing past traffic lights only, not to mention the attention you catch when driving a porsche).

Engine and exhaust note to die for at any speed. 718, 718s, 718gts cannot replicate the essence of the 981. Which is why the 718 gt4 has a flat 6......go figure.

I sold my '18 Cayman S (my 3rd Cayman S... 981 was my fav) for a '19 Corvette with Z51 pkg. I will say I miss a lot of things about the Cayman. The GTS does sound a bit better than the S, thankfully. But, that suspension... it is superb (especially w/ PASM) in its ability to do the hard-core sports stuff but still be completely livable on the crappiest of roads for daily driving.

The Cayman has been my favorite sports car for years, so I have to admit that it makes me sad that you're selling it. I'm almost offended lol. I plan on getting a GT4 in a few years. I love the fact that it only comes with a manual, which is a must in that car with that engine. I definitely think you should get a 718 Cayman GT4. It has a n/a flat 6 and a manual. It's also no longer going to be limited production, so it should be easy to get one at MSRP after production ramps up.

Can't fault you for getting rid of the leased vehicle with such low utilization. Off the line acceleration may be less than you like, but I am curious about how the cayman does in 2nd or 3rd gear at 40 - 60mph on winding roads. For me, that's really where the most fun occurs here in the mid-atlantic region. The PDK / DCT seems like it would be perfect for DC region driving which can be glorious when you find an open road, but finding that open road... Agreed that the red interior option would be really nice. Best of luck with the sale and finding your next personal ride!

Porsche ownership is an expensive proposition, no doubt. I bought a CPO 2018 Macan GTS late last year and even though I went in with my eyes open and research done it is still a chunk of money each month. That being said, the Macan GTS is my favorite daily ever (among about 20 cars) and my wife and I have seriously enjoyed our road trips to both the mountains and the beach. In my perfect world I get to keep the Macan GTS for a long time and still have enough cash to pay for a Boxster Spyder in a couple of years. I really don't need to be the fastest in town so horse power and 0-60 isn't that important. I'm thinking of a new Cayman 718 or Mazda MX5 RF Sport (Like GTS in the US) in 2020. I will pay cash and can afford the Cayman or MX5 (with a lot of cash to spare). Right now I'm leaning on buying an MX5 RF, getting a hard top and modifying the car heavily but it might change.
Can't you make a review of the standard Cayman 718 (the S) to see how much turbo lag it has?

People who wants to buy a porsche wants the 6 cilinders engine. The sound of the flat six is what we want.

$8500 for wheels? That's why people are in debt.

Get a Miata, take it to Flying Miata and get a V8 swap. EVERYTHING YOU WANT RIGHT THERE.

Another great review. Got a feeling you'll miss the GTS when it's gone.

I agree. He acted like a kid in a candy store. Really enjoyed the absolute best aspects of the ride!

Traded my Porsche Boxster after a year too.. got bored of it to be honest.
It was neither here nor there... Not quite a supercar, but not quite a 'base' model sports car either.
I splurged and went with an R8 instead.

That was a really good review. I still want to know if this Cayman would be your choice over the BMW M2 Competition.

I might be an edge case, but I like the sounds made by the four cylinder boxer engines. Yes, I've heard the older six cylinder power plant at various speeds.

I don’t think you should replace this car, Sofyan. It doesn’t sound like there’s any one car you’ve always wanted to own. So, you will always end up with the same problem, about $20k later. For a guy in your situation, there will always be something new to cause an itch in your pocket. You should just enjoy driving a new car each week. This is a good problem to have.

The white paint doesn't bother me as much as the black wheels that show EVERY speck of dust that lands on them.
