@mariapittman8970 Is that what it was? I had seen a video from the zoo that basically told us to prepare for his death. The keepers said he had multiple health issues. I've been really sad since I found out, and I'm really worried about his family. They usually split them up and send them to multiple zoos.
@@dmoore2732 yes, he also had liver failure and bad arthritis. He was suffering from. I cried my eyes out. I also feel bad for the family because he was so loved. I’m wondering if they will bring Frank and Monroe back so Frank can take Winston’s place. Winston touched a lot of people.
I saw a video about this on Cleveland’s RUclips page. It’s more common for them to have heart disease in zoos. Although they are often prescribed the same medications as us humans, it’s still a threat. Thanks Larry for bringing further awareness about this. All of them are well worth saving and giving the best lives possible!
Great post, Larry. 👏. I’ve seen the video you’re talking about! (Searching RUclips for “gorillas” and “Cleveland” of course!! 🤣) It’s really interesting and explains a lot about the gorillas’ health and diet. It also highlights what a wonderful team of experts are on hand at Cleveland to take exceptional care of our beloved Mokolo family❣️
I just saw a video on this about this Silverback. I'm glad you said this about a friendly channel. I go to SOME channels and make a comment about something, and the gorilla P.H D'S jump all over me.They tick me off, saying we are projecting our humanism on the animals. When you are only stating what is being shown. You can't even make a constructive comment. I apologize if I have said anything derogatory to anyone, but I don't like people comparing me to someone else.I try to see both sides of a situation. ❤
Thanks Larry. Ironically I just watched a video about this with another zoo, as they have an elder gorilla who has heart issues and I believe they put in a device to help him to live longer. I’ll have to find the video, but it was really interesting.
I've just watched. I know it's 6 yrs old but it surprises me they were fed primate biscuit at one point. At Twycross it's leaf-based, as it is with you now, they also get a lot of leafy branches as they love stripping and eating the bark too. 😊
Watched it a few moths ago, The Taiwan zoo in particular loves to feed their gorillas processed gorilla cookies. If you point out its wrong the ladies in the comments will let you know how strange you are.
Bom dia!
I'm always hunting for scientific information about gorillas, but I usually end up only finding those "10 Things You Didn't Know About [subject]!" type videos with the same tired info that goes back to when lists were sent by fax. 📠 I heard that heart problems affect a lot of silverbacks, but with no facts or studies to back it up. Thank you, Larry for the heads-up up on this!! I have the video earmarked for after-dinner viewing tonight. 📺 😊
That was an awesome documentary. I had no idea about its subject manner. Now I feel “closer” to our gorillas. ❤
Glad to hear you enjoyed that . 😁
