I am sorry that you have calf and foot pain. Typically calf & foot pain caused by scar tissue, fascia restrictions and inflammation. Orthotics will not break scar tissue, release fascia restrictions or decrease inflammation. I just tried your technique on myself. I have been in such pain this past month, and suddenly I can walk with absolutely no pain!! Amazing! I've tried everything but a podiatrist. I do have a question though. What is causing this "scar tissue"? How can I prevent it?

I've had it for 15 years, & now that I'm 41, the last year with it has been unbearable & I can't just push through it anymore. It came from essentially, not easing into barefoot running. It was how I stood all day at a warehouse job, & it took 1 month to injure myself by standing with my heel an inch off the ground which was WAY too high. I can't afford professional care, so I tried ice, & negative reps. Even though I tried scraping on a forearm thing & it didn't do anything, I guess I should try & do this to myself for relief. Aww, you're too far away and I needed you now. I had this plantar fasciitis since after I took care of my ailing bedridden Mom for almost 3 years 24/7 alone. She passed away last September 18, 2017. And since then I've noticed this shooting pain on the bottom of my feet, especially on the left foot. Any suggestions? The thought of that even barely touching my heel makes me cringe. I’ve been in so much pain over the last 5 years with PF that the thought of anything touching my foot makes me hurt. The worst is taking off and putting on sneakers. Ouch!

I'm not questioning the technique at all. But the lack of explanation of how the technique is being applied, what is the logic behind the technique and ultimately what are the home cares given just make this a little bit superficial.

I bought a foot massager designed for plantar fasciitis. I've done it all and this was the only thing that helped. It's called a PRO-Series by Medi-Rub. 2.5 years of pain + lots of time and money wasted before I tried the massager at a trade show and I haven't had pain since.
Reason I'm adding this is because the massager I bought has a bar for the foot and it's similar to this technique.

As a runner any foot injury is incredibly painful mentally and physically. I'm personally dealing with knee pain (which has gotten better) and i get pain in the low left portion of my knee when running. I rested and iced for a week straight and it has been 3 weeks since the rest week and I still experience a little bit of pain during every other run. Is that just regular lotion he’s putting on?

This technique cannot be used on everyone. I am one of those people. Nerve damage prevents me from being able to tolerate the pain (it is VERY painful).

Of course if you massage anyone like that they’re going to feel amazing, that doesn’t solve years of chronic and complex biomechanical pathologies that have developed over time. It’s important to note that therapy is not always the same as treatment.
This is not massage, this is ASTR treatment. ASTR is a biopsychosical model. ASTR tools gently break down superficial/ deep scar tissue and superficial/ deep fascia restriction, while reducing the inflammation that often causes chronic pain. At what time do you address the other obvious issues clearly visible in neck and hips?
Fascia it is extremely tough. You are not breaking any scar tissue with that kind of force. I am not questioning effectivity here, just the rationale.
If it is an ischemic pain dominating mechanism, it may be useful, but likely it is going to come back. It will be nice to see follow up on this patient to see his evolution.

Im so impressed .. i wish i could bring my poor 10year old sons feet. He limps every day.. walks on his toes bc of all the pain.. 😭 is this ice therapy?? Scraping scar tissue. Tanya, I am a physical therapist as well and a 10 year old that is limping should have his hips checked by a medical doctor to screen for Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease just to be safe. A 10 year old is unlikely to have plantar fasciitis due to his age, it could be a more serious condition which is affecting his hips and causing him to limp. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just telling you my recommendation so that your boy is safe. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

Sean Sibbett thankyou for your suggestion. I have never heard of this disease you mentioned. I am a former massage therapist. I have to wonder if it is his hips as well watching him walk its not a normL 10 year old boy walk. Do you think a regular doctor would know what you are suggesting?

My plantar phasiitus is from overly tight hamstrings. It makes my calves super tight and then pulls on the bottom of my feet. He didn't stand or walk like he was having a flare up before he started working on him.
You most likely have an anterior tilted pelvis like me. Your hamstrings are tight because your hips are tilted so far forward it’s like your constantly doing a hamstring stretch, don’t stretch your hamstrings. Do work on your core and strengthen your glutes. Look up athleanx anterior tilted pelvis.

I've seen this used in physical therapy with a different tool. Some say ut works. Not for me though. 15 years of pain and counting for me.

What is your take on fibromyalgia? I’ve read that some Drs feel the pain fibro patients feel is from a tightening of the fascia.
