I had one of their courses last year and it was super good. The guys that run the restaurant say that once corona calms down they want to do workshops with people going out to gather bugs and cooking them collectively. It sounds super fun and I'm definitely looking forward to trying that too.

Honestly I love the different approaches Joey is taking to his content... definitely branching out of just anime related content and I am here for it. As much as I like anime, but this is really freaking cool too.
Other than the monthly otaku collection and his 'what will I be watching?' series he mostly does content relating to Japan in general nowadays. He doesn't do videos on very specific anime or manga anymore. It's been ages since he has done a proper anime review.

Bugs as food is one of the real viable alternatives to replacing our protein / meat source from our current diet. They grow so quick and there are so many variety to explore for different flavours. We eat shellfish such as lobsters / crabs /prawns etc... But have you ever think of those are just bugs of the sea?
The sausage idea is a good one to slowly introduce us to these alternatives. The only problem at the moment is the price point - if they could sell it at competitive prices from the start I think most people will at least try it

I'd definitely give Antcicada a visit! I had a couple of different types of cooked insects from a street vendor in Bangkok, so trying them in other foods would be an experience. The sausage looks really interesting too but I'm not sure how much I'd want to try that.

You know what it is I think? It's just like Emma said where she doesn't like features.
We're down for various types of meat because we can't see the chicken, the pig, the cow, the fish. But what are things that give lots of people the heeby jeebies? Seeing the fish head and the eyes staring at you. Pigs feet and recognizing it for what it is. And so on and so forth. But a normal filet or cutlet? We don't see that stuff normally.
But bugs are so small that its almost unreasonable to have a chef take off the head or legs of every single one. They would usually be simply eaten whole, so we see all the details and it feels...creepy.
Very true, I eat fish fillets and fingers but get creeped out when I see a full fish cos I’m not used to it and I’m not reminded of it 😅

It’s 100% this, alongside a general idea of bug = dirty. When I was travelling once, I saw Cornish Hen on the menu. I ordered it since I’d never had it. But cornish hens are often very small, so it’s served whole. It was the first time I’d been served chicken where the whole thing was put on my plate, and I could hardly eat it. The sauce it was served with was alright, but being able to see each individual part of the hen while eating it… I admit, it was a struggle I’d never had with any other sort of meat. That same trip I tried Escargot and suffered the same sort of thing. For those of us lucky to be raised with slabs of meat provided by a butcher, eating something when you can see each part of it can be initially unpleasant.

Waiter: "But that's the insect ramen bowl."
