This is a route I've done in the past and it was good to relive. As always, a well made video with cryptic comments I do enjoy---binari, if not streets, ahead of other rail channels.

Since your journey, other operators are able to operate these services. Last year I travelled from Málaga to Madrid with Iryo, a company in which Trenitalia has a share. €60 return. 2 1/2 hours. 👍

Great video, just an FYI, cercanías is pronounced as Cir (like circumference), can, like a can of soup, e as in recieting the alphabet, ass as in your rear end
    Cir-can-e-ass

Very enjoyable video . I must admit I felt a pang of nostalgic regret upon seeing the old Malaga station being replaced by the philosopher's terminal. 25 pounds sounds reasonable in this day and age . Are there lower fares available -- even if on the old ,slower rains ? Thanks and enjoy your trip .

I'm not sure there are slower/cheaper trains between Malaga and Cordoba now as there is no Iberian gauge line for passengers between Antequera Santa Ana and Cordoba. Renfe app currently offers €21,90 as cheapest for the run, two weeks in advance.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels

Oh, and yes, I looked at old photographs of the original Malaga station and can understand why it is missed.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it 👍

The spanish state currently has 'free' renfe regional trains. You have to buy a 20 euro ticket between two stations and after 16 journeys your 20 euro is refunded.
If you fail to make 16 one way trips (8 return trips) the only penalty is you loose your 20 euro. Considering many tickets cost more than 20 euro to outright buy and the ticket has unlimited uses and free cancelations on trips it is a pretty good deal! (Three strikes system to loose your ticket is in effect for failure to cancel trips you dont take)
You do need to make a free booking for each trip in advance and the free aspect has driven passenger levels up meaning many trains sell out in advance. Load factors for regional trains are up approx 40% since August when it was lntroduced.
Tickets are valid for predefined calender periods of 4 months. First period was September to December. Now it is Januaray to April, etc etc. So dont buy eg in april for october, ticket wont be valid. Currently planned to run until December 31st 2023.
Commuter cercanías trains have an identical scheme but 10 euro deposit and AVANT multijourney tickets have a 50% discount.
The 'abonos' or 'free' tickets can be bought online or the app but it can be hard to figure out especially if you dont speak Spanish.
The following types of regional trains are covered
      Media distancia
      Regional
      Regional exprés
Trains NOT covered include intercity, AVE, ALVIA, AVLO etc

@@JohnnyHooverTravels In fairness its a new trial and it's designed for regular users (so mostly residents, visiting students, expats etc) so it's almost exclusively advertised in Spanish. Having said that there has been a truly massive PR and advertising campaign over this trial which has been seen as largely successful albeit expensive

There is a station at Malaga airport which will take you directly to Malaga Maria Zambrano station where you can catch a train to Cordoba. the airport train is just tap-in tap-out with your bank card. very easy. For the Malaga to Cordoba train you must buy tickets from Renfe website.
Cannot help with accommodation in Cordoba.
Have a great trip and thanks for watching 👍
