John Glasscock I have a external 3.5 inch 3TB hard drive. Plugged in through a NYKO data bank. Would it be safe to run a database rebuild on it ? Or would I corrupt things? I had to physically download Sony’s software to it when I installed it.
brooks082 yes, it’s safe to run a database rebuild. I had my seagate 2tb plugged with 30 games installed, rebuilding database does *NOT* delete your data, photos, games, capture galleries, or any other saved data.
V r2d2 how long did yours take I have around the same amount of games. But don’t have the fastest WiFi. Idk if that determines speed either.
Let my ps4 faster, but the folders that I have disappeared, I needed to re-added games to folder for them to come back to main screen

I've always gotten my backgrounds from the web browser, just type in ps4 backgrounds to whatever wallpaper you are looking for, it doesn't have to be just plain black to get this same effect

There's really no advantage to having a solid black over any static image. As long as it's not animated it's somewhat easier on the system.

Daaaaamn, and I've been using for MONTHS a Crash Bandicoot theme with tons of movement, animations, and particle effects (it's Crash endlessly riding a bear in the snow). I never thought it could affect the performance
This worked great for me. I have the original 500gb ps4 and was concerned with how slow it was. Now the menus load faster.

in regards to menu lag if this doesnt help then consider getting an ssd upgrade i know its a bit of a chore to upgrade it but its worth it my launch ps4 works flawlessly now since i upgraded it.

Its the animation that causes the lag. I have set a picture as the theme and it works the same as a still black image.

I like running cod games or games that give you info on your in-game bandwith and I can test my network speed and go back to the game until my speed is better and to my liking. Props to John too because his videos with the mtu settings help me figure out why my connection was low.👍👍

Thought I'd let you know, another way you could get an image you want as a theme/background is by using the ps messages app and sending yourself the images and screenshotting them on the PS4. It's what I've done for a while

Try his database rebuild. You should see a tremendous difference in the way apps and games load

With all these great looking game having photo modes, you can snap a shot, hit share as well. It'll be a lot more interesting that a black screen.

I mean if you have any idea how a computer or console or any device works this is obvious but for those who don’t here’s an explanation.
When a then or background animation is playing then the game or video or even speed of a console is slowed so if you have a beautiful background you might only get 25 fps so always go with a solid one
I got an external 2TB hard drive for my PS4 and that helped free up a lot of space PS4 runs as if nothing is on it. I got all my games on the external hard drive and I can play off of it . Games run smooth with literally no lag on it while on the PS4 HDD drive there’s nothing on it but saved game data which is nothing so having dynamic themes in the background is no problem no lag no nothing everything runs smooth. Btw it’s the Segate Game drive for PS4 and it’s USB3.0 so its fast you can get it off Amazon or Walmart.

It doesn’t matter what your background picture is as long as the theme isn’t dynamic and moving. It definitely doesn’t have to be black rofl….it can be absolutely anything you want as long as it’s not dynamic and your frame rate will still be fine
I have 400+ games on my 6TB PS4 but made folders to put games in = no lag on menu even with Dynamic Themes
Delete all the notifications and people in your freinds list you dont play with. also try freeing up space on the hdd by deleting old videos and games you may not play anymore. It worked wonders for me.
No need for black screen guys, you can put on the background any static image and it will give the same result :))
If you’re Ps4 is lagging that hard pull the power cord out of the back of the machine and let it sit for a good 5 minutes. Clears the cache out and it’ll run like a champ. Plus keep your cool background.
you should not do that every time you power off your consol, once every half year or 3 months is far enough to empty your cache.

Thank you so much for this video this is by far the best solution for lagging and screen freeze because My playstation 4 was lagging so much that it'd freeze for like 2 split seconds, this improved it like it was new. Also cleaning out your screenshots helps even more.
I didnt use my internet browser I used the default themes one that was black then I took a screen shout then I set a custom one then I zoomed in to where it was the most black
