- SAFETY UPDATE: Please DO NOT spray BIN Shellac Based Primer with this type of handheld turbine sprayer. It may ignite causing fire or explosion.
It In this video I’ll be testing out the Wagner Flexio 590 - for the first time - on a few smaller furniture pieces that have been kicking around the garage. I’m no newbie to spraying paint but I’ve always used a pneumatic set up. The electric sprayer in this video is a great option for beginners or anyone who doesn't want to invest in a large air compressor.

Important Safety Update: BIN Shellac Based Primer is not a suitable material to spray in this type of turbine sprayer. It is combustible has a risk of fire or explosion 💥 I will not be spraying BIN in this gun again.
hello katie! 👋👋👋 I have time watching your videos, I love everything you do with wooden furniture. I do the same and that primer is my favorite, and you are right in everything you say, I stopped using it in my paint gun, I only added it to wooden furniture, with a roller or brush, and for best results, leave it 24 hours, after 24 hours you can then sand and paint the wooden furniture. (There is no need to sand the furniture before placing the primer, but without a doubt that primer is my favorite🥰🥰😍😍
@@Roca-mb8df I know that good primer is loaded with alcohol, but cannot imagine an explosion. I am used to the Kilz original, which is probably the same thing. I get good results just with a tiny foam sponge roller and it's disposable. I had been told by experienced wood workers to never worry about the streaks and overlaps, just be sure it is covered completely. Almost 15 years later, they are right.
Do you know if that's the case with the home right sprayers too or just the Wagner's?
@@perlaargyle9343 each sprayer is different so I would check the manufacturers instructions but from what the Wagner rep told me it has to do with the proximity of the spray to the turbine. Sprayers where the turbine can be as safe distance away for the gun are better suited for this use.
That is good to know. I don’t have a spray gun but good to know.
Both of these tables are absolutely beautiful. I have a really affinity for that little and I would love to find something like that. You do such a great job explaining everything you’re doing the reason why you’re doing it you instruct so much I absolutely love your videos.
Thank you for using a smaller less expensive sprayer. We who just DIY occasionally can use it well.
I love how you explain everything in detail as well as different scenarios ...thank you Katy👍🤩
I love the colour you picked out for the tables. They turned out so lovely!
I agree with your observations regarding spattering. I have found this is not an issue when using a good, self leveling paint. Settings and distance from surface is critical. Thanks girl!
Wow...thank you for sharing this with us........loved the gray table..👍👍👍👍
Now I'm anxious to try an Electric Sprayer. Been hand brushing or can spraying for so many years. Love learning new things. Beautiful Job. Cathleen
love the results Katie!! 😍
Thanks Lauren ❤️
Living life on the edge, without testing the sprayer, LOL! That for me is my impatience!🤣
Thanks for showing a smaller paint sprayer. Might get one now. Paula
Beautiful! The legs on the console are amazing!
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️ 🎀 ❤️
Gray is my new favorite color!
Gorgeous…Love the color choice! I never knew about water with the BIN primer (which may be why I’ve destroyed everything I’ve used it with 😂) so thank you for sharing that tip with ammonia.
Agree, me either. Learned something
They turned out adorable 🥰
Isn’t it amazing how colour can change the look of an item of furniture! Loved the table with the dark top. 👏👏🥰
Thank you for taking the time to show us.
So beautifully understated. Just lovely.
Love how both pieces turned out. You are so brilliant at choosing and coordinating paint colours.
I really enjoyed the fact that you walked us through each step. Beautiful job!
Love how both pieces turned out.
Another stunner, Katie! The paint color with the tone of the stain you chose is gorgeous!
Wow those 2 pieces of furniture came out so beautifully thank you
More and more people are doing this and it's saving our trees for nature. 🎄🎄🎄🎄
These pieces turned out very pretty! Thanks for all the info you gave!
Love what you did. You are very good at explaining what needs to be done.
Great job explaining everything and thanks for sharing things you noticed about using it.
This is just the video I needed, thank you! I recently purchased an electric sprayer and can't wait to use it. You've given me some good guidance.
Another great job Katie. Love the Grey color with the stain color. Also love the way you stage things.
I love the sofa table...that grey color and natural wood area winning combo
Thanks for the demo with the sprayer! Thinking of getting one….. The end products look great! I happen to have a couple of tables very similar to the ones you used. So this tutorial/video really served me well! Thank you so very much! ❤️⚒️
Thanks for showing us this sprayer...love the color especially in combination with wood top
Thank you for the tips! I just bought my first Wagner sprayer and believe me I learned a lot from this video!!
Really great pointers.
Thank you for this episode! I have a very small project and this sprayer will be perfect!
Thank you.I really appreciate that you did this vid for Intermediates, who can't yet affotd your top-of-the-line sprayer equipment. Love your contributions...and even if we hsve to everything 'by hand'- You help Us and Others. 🙌
Another great video. You are the best instructor on utube at teaching furniture rehab! I love that you will take pieces of furniture that others would pass up because you are not afraid of a challenge and are keeping furniture out of the land fill. The pieces you sprayed turned out beautiful. I am sure it is not as good of an air a prayer as you use normally but like you said it would be a very nice sprayer for people that do not have a sprayer. Nice that you gave all of the tips on using the sprayer. Have a wonderful day!
I love that color! I just did a dresser in that color with black accents and it was gorgeous. Love that bluish grey.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I do not own a spray gun and have considered buy this exact paint gun. I appreciate your detailed explanation and opinion very much!
So much helpful informations on how to use electric paint sprayer, thanks Katie. These pieces looks beautiful!
I’m so glad you found it helpful!
Such good timing! I just bought this sprayer and I've been nervous to try it out. Great video, thanks!
Your videos are great; so thorough. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I've learned much! Have a blessed day 🌹
I literally jusy bought this spray gun yesterday!!! It was meant to be! Great to know about possible issues, hope I don't get too much splattering. Great video!
Hi Katie. Thank you So much for sharing about the Wagner ! And the tips along the way ! It Really helps .
They turned out Gorgeous as usual ❤️❤️ the colour
That grain on top is just beautiful! I have a table almost exactly the same design, though it's almost black with old finish. I'll have to get up the courage to try to refinish it!
Very talented in styling your finished pieces. I'm not sure how you do it, but always get it exactly right!
Thank you for this because I don’t want to start with the huge gravity fed sprayer. Heck. I’ll probably stay with a brush for a good long while. But every time you pull that big thing out I think, “What’s the smallest I can get?” Then I give up. Lol. So your video really helps me!
I was intimidated by the HVLP gravity sprayers. But they are so simple and produce a beautiful finish.
@@shannonericksen1291
Right but I’m not ready to make such an investment. Just starting out.
Thanks for sharing.I just bought an electric spray gun. Nice transformation of the tables, love the colour 😊
Love that color! These pieces turned out great.
Thank you for explaining this so well. I want to buy a sprayer but was concerned about how difficult it would be to clean. This was so informative and took the apprehension out of making the purchase. I wondered how you cleaned after the primer because I had problems with a brush once. Ended up throwing it away. Good to learn about the ammonia. 👍
I love Duncan Phyfe furniture, I have a few family pieces that I’m wanting to finish for myself! These look great and thanks for using the Wagner as comparison to your HVLC!
Beautiful pieces and styling!
Thank you for sharing these pieces turned out beautiful the tips that you give are so helpful thank you for sharing all your wisdom and knowledge with us great weekend and God bless you
Wow these are gorgeous! I love that color. Thanks for the tutorial on this sprayer!
Have had access to a Wagner 300 series electric sprayer for years and haven’t used it. But now that you say it’s easy to clean maybe I’ll give it a try.
Great tutorial Katie
The furniture looks amazing - love your style😍
Thank you so much for watching today ❤️
Love that gray color. You did a great job again 🙂
Way much better than brand new
Bravo 👏
Beautiful just beautiful,,,updated,,,
Very comprehensive, thank you!!
❤️❤️❤️
Wow, loved them both
Awesome job Katie 🙂
BEAUTIFUL!
Beautiful piece!! Love that color (it reminds me of DB’s Stormy Seas which is one of my favorite colors) by Melange! I’ve got the top half of my grandmother’s china cabinet (the bottom is my dining room buffet and my very first piece I ever painted 4yrs ago), which I’m adding legs/tall feet to and converting to a display cabinet/bookcase/large curio. I’m painting the outside black, inside a light gray and going to try Melange for the first time. I’m excited to try them, especially bc they’re a small business based right here in Texas! Love your work and tutorials. And thx for the review on the Wagner, think I’ll stick to my gravity fed pneumatic one.💜
Thanks for the review on the sprayer. That helps me a lot.
they are lovely and thanks for information
What a great channel, with such interesting, well explained content! I really love the things you show in your step by step process, and it's inspirational to watch you do your thing. The whole idea of spraying paint is incredibly intimidating to me, and I'm not typically intimidated by much. I've built some nice pieces of furniture (our HUGE kitchen table and buffet, as an example), but the paint sprayer just seems so involved and mysterious, though you make it look and work like a dream machine. How you spray your pieces without painting the entire room you're in is just completely beyond me! Anyway, just subscribed, and loving your incredible talent, color choices, and of course... the outcomes. Great job Katie! Kudos to you!
Welcome! Spraying is definitely intimidating but quite easy with a little practice. It is messy though! Not with actual wet paint flying around but with paint dust that settles everywhere 😉
Learning so much from you. Also a great tip for getting glue into tight spaces, is to use shopvac on back to pull glue into a crack
thanks for this very helpful review!
Your waves!! 😻
The tables turned out beautifully! I’ve never used a sprayer in my life; not sure I’d want to start now. But, maybe. Some day.
Keep doing what you do!
Thank you for such a informational video!! I love watching your channel!!
Very inspiring and pretty.
Thanks for doing this tutorial. Finished up some detailed chairs. I thought I'll never do that again without a sprayer. Lol can't wait to see what you think of the Wagner.
Another good one. Thanks Katie. 😊👍💜🇨🇦
They came out fantastic love the colour 💜🕉
Lovely.
Just lovely 😍
Beautiful finish! I prefer a flipper to try save an original product unless the finish is done well and it's kept intact. It hurts to watch many beautiful pieces that have very minimal scratches on it being torn apart and cheaply done. You served these pieces well. Great job!
Hi. I have the same spray and I did had the same problem. Will very much appreciate good news. Thank you.
Excelente katie
I need one of those
Thank you for the information with the Wagner sprayer. I've been tempted several times to purchase. However, I haven't seen a neutral person's opinion. I may just purchase. Thanks Katie.
Wow! And no watering down needed.
That depends on the consistency of the products that you’re using. These three are thin to begin with.
Un petit coucou de France ! Bravo pour tes customisations 👏👏 je suis abonnée à ta chaîne et j'adore ton travail 😍
Awesome tutorials. I love your hair. So beautiful 💕🖖🏽🌈
Thank you
I have the same gun and also struggle with the spattering- I spray a piece of cardboard first then go to my piece.
Beautiful 🌹
I have this sprayer and used it for the first time a few weeks ago. I've got a spray tent as my garage is too small to spray inside. One word of advice, don't use it outdoors if it's windy!! The mist from the sprayer went all over my driveway. Back to the brush until the spring here I think as we move into the winter here in the UK.
Spraying is messy no matter what type of sprayer or where you’re spraying. It just comes with the territory.
Of course another winner! What else would we expect from you?
Question: what did you use to get that particular curl in your hair? Pretty
Great job! I have used a Home Right s sprayer. Not sure if I like to spray!!
From : LIFE WITH PEARL
I came to the Big House decades ago
The others snickered that I was left
Left out in the hallway -- alone
But they didn't know I wasn't left ...
I was front and center
The grand ladies snuggled their furs close
Beaded bags sprinkled my cheeks
But those days are gone...
Someone said ,"yuck" when they saw me
I just sat -- sat in the corner
Suddenly, I was in the sun...warm washing , gentle smoothing
The feeling of cool paint on my skin
I didn't know -- I couldn't see
Little Pearl giggled and rubbed my legs as Mother teetered through the door
No more a grand hallway...but a tiny room
They all sat and looked and smiled
Pearl smiled the most
I could hear the funny and sad shows they watched
I blinked a glimpse of the Big House
but this little spot was my life now
My life turned around...
The sun on my face and Pearl in my heart....❤
My Wagner clogs up constantly. I much prefer my hvlp gun. Love the color on these pieces. Your hair looks great btw...
I haven’t had any clogging issues yet but it’s always a potential with spraying…especially if you’re naughty like me and don’t filter anything 😝 thanks for watching today!
I actually started out with a wagner, but its seems like their products have come a long way since then. I think I even seen a gravity fed electric wagner online. I’d love to see a demo on that one.
Me too!
I'm sold! I think i/m finally ready to buy it LOL. The only thing holding me back was needing a spray tent. I noticed you dont use one so im wondering how you manage the overspray ... and does the tent really make a difference? Thank you so much for this super great tutorial Katie
Not having a tent means you have to deal with a fine dust of dried paint that will land on everything.
I’ve had issues with the spattering with the Wagner spray guns as well. I think they can’t produce the air force needed for furniture paint applications. BTW the pieces do look beautiful.
They can produce an incredible finish, you just need to be cautious about that first second after you pull the trigger
The projects tirned out great. I bought this Wagner sprayer as well and i had problems with splatter as well. I couldnt figure out why it was doing this. I just sanded it down to make my hutch smoother and then white waxed it. Let us know if u figure out why it splatters.
Spray water based kilz primer, the spitting is because of lower air power and not thinning 10%
Thanks so much for this video!! I've been looking at getting a (wagner) sprayer but I was a bit intimidated plus scared of the clean up side of things - especially with oil based products. Do you mind if I ask you about spray drift? I have a small workshop and don't know if I would need to hang plastic drop sheets every time I get the spray gun out? Thank you from NZ - I always love your videos & especially love your clean, classic pieces!
There is ALWAYS overspray with spraying. You should hang plastic if you’re able to.
