Just in case everyone is wondering about the tackiness that only really happens if you using too much dye, excessive dye will do this. Keep a wet rag as she stated also dabbing your brush also help at taking extra dye off the brush. And taking your time. Let dry before each coat. Sometimes you made only need 2 depending on how dark you like
Hello I just dyed my speedy 40 but used leather cleaner for the vachetta instead of nail polish remover. I wish I had seen this video ahead of time. I haven’t sealed it yet that’s the next step. Hopefully it comes out ok, but I did have to do 3 coats of the black dye.
awesome video! my question is, have you ever had an issue with tackiness after sealing? I have not applied leather conditioner yet, wondering if that will take care of it. Thanks
No I have not had an issue with that. the main reason why there would be tackiness is if too much of the sealer was applied. The trick to using the sealer is to apply it in a thin light coat. If you noticed it looking a little bubbly when applying then that means you used too much
Your work is beautiful! I would like to try and dye my neverfull monogram canvass black all over, the leather and the canvas. Do you have any experience with this?
Hi, love the job our doing on this! Im using this ink on my alma but it looks very opaque?? Should I apply a few coats? Does this not seep through to the interior?
yes, you will need more coats if it's looking opaque. Make sure before dying the leather you use a deglazer (i used nail polish remover) this basically preps the leather and allows the dye to absorb. I used 3 coats on mine till I got it opaque enough. Make sure to let each coat fully dry and then lightly buff with a soft clean cloth. Once it's to your satisfaction you can seal it with a thin coat of resoline. let me know if you have any questions :)
to answer your question about seeping through to the interior. I did have some spots on the inside of the bag that seeped through. Just make sure you take your time and apply the coats lightly. If you soak it too much with the dye it can run under the tape and stain the canvas; speaking from experience :(
Hi, just wondering if your bag had any cracks in the leather. Nothing major but just wondering how the dye looks and holds up if there was cracks. I’m going to purchase a vintage keepall to do this.
yes this one in the video has cracks. it held up well though. I already took it on several trips. the dye just absorbs more in those areas so go lightly with it so it doesn't stain the canvas
I just bought this same bag but a 55 and looking to dye black also. I know you said you used a clear sealant but I’ve heard some people using black sealant. Is the a reason you used clear vs black? I’m looking for the most advice i can get. Any tips and trick for a clean look? Thank you!
Honestly, I am not familiar with black sealant. I've only heard about using clear sealant and have seen others have good results with that and since that is what I had on hand I used it. I am happy with the results of it, no color transfer. The best tip I can give you for dying a bag is to use light Coats of dye, if you use a heavy hand it can soak through the leather And stain the inside of the bag and outside canvas.
eurobabe eurobabe I started to my project bag and only have a little bit more to go but I just realized that I was using Riebing LeatherColors instead of Riebing LeatherDye. How should I go about taking off the colors and putting the other product that you used back on? Or can I put it on overtop and then seal it?
Do you know if anything that will take dye off of the canvas? My tape failed me. I’ve tried acetone and alcohol. It helped but I can still see a shadow
I've heard loving my bags makes a dye remover but I haven't tried it personally. I think it may be intended for pen ink but I'm sure if you do a little Google research you can find more info on it. Acetone and a magic eraser can remove the monogram print on canvas so I would not use those methods (speaking from experience lol)
yes the dye can penitrate the canvas but its very fluid. it won't be opaque, if your looking to do any kind of design or art on the bag I would use paint
thank you, but i wouldn't want to take on the liability of it if something were to go wrong. Have you checked out littleMama'sHouse on RUclips? I believe she has an Etsy page in which she dyes bags :)

i have been interested in doing this to mine! I got my first 45 over 20 years ago. thank you!
Amazing job! Wow! I am thinking of painting my vintage Randonnée Bag black 🖤 how is the dye holding up?

Beautiful !!! Looks like Vuitton's Macassar collection, except for the silver hardware...
It looks like kepall world tour (which has black leather and gold hardware as well)
This is such a great idea! How is the dye holding up?
It turned out amazing! How often do you condition the vachetta after the dye?
thanks! conditioning once every 6 months should keep the leather nice and hydrated

very nice indeed. Have you clean a leather cleansing before putting aceton? Or not?
Thanks
Greetings from Denmark.

thank you :) leather dye won't take to canvas. you would have to paint it. i recommend kkleathergoods on Instagram. she does AMAZING custom work

Great, thank you so much for the advice
I love it
Damn, that's Beautiful❤

@@euro_babe okay great, and I saw a video on someone who’s leather totally just ripped on them. Does this occur normally?

@@aarongillen8195 I've never used the colors before, only the dye. I believe the colors is more of a paint so I'm not sure how you would remove it
WOW AMAZINGG!!
Fantastic!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Did it bleed through to the other side/interior?
awesome video!
Does this paint give it a good shine? And can you condition the leather after without ruining the paint?
When you seal it it gives it a nice shine. I haven't had any problems with conditioning the leather after I've sealed it
Do you know if anything that will take dye off of the canvas? My tape failed me. I’ve tried acetone and alcohol. It helped but I can still see a shadow

If you’re still have this, how did it hold up all these years later?
I still have it and it's held up great. still looks just like the after pic
Would Dye penetrate the actual canvas too? I am interested in dying my vintage speedy all black and and trying to decide on dye vs paint
yes the dye can penitrate the canvas but its very fluid. it won't be opaque, if your looking to do any kind of design or art on the bag I would use paint
@@euro_babe gotcha, thanks so much. Im looking to change the entire canvas black. It sounds like I should use paint
how many coats of Resolene do you apply
Just one coat :)
How does the conditioner get thru the sealant?
Where do you find your bags?
Have you thought about dyeing bags as a way to make money on the side? I would pay to have a 45 keepall dyed?
thank you, but i wouldn't want to take on the liability of it if something were to go wrong. Have you checked out littleMama'sHouse on RUclips? I believe she has an Etsy page in which she dyes bags :)
@@euro_babe thank you so much for the information.
Where did you find your vintage keepall
ebay :)
I found a great one on poshmark.
Can I use alcohol instead of nail polish remover?
yes, rubbing alcohol will also work on leather to break down oils
Does the paint seal the crack leather as well?
no it does not. if there are cracks in the leather they will still be there after you dye it
eurobabe can you do leather crack repair on lv please
Hi, how many layers on sealer did you use?
one thin layer. if you apply it thick it will bubble and leave marks.
@@euro_babe thanks love! In process of dye an old alma. It has cracks on handles...wish me luck :)
Misspelled dying.
thank you, ill correct it
