This was SUCH a fun project to do and I definitely see myself doing more of these in the future (I’ve done 3 so far!) and next time I’ll show you guys how to paint on the canvas! I already sold this one and it went pretty quickly and I made about 100.00 on it + just had fun being creative! Win - WIN!
Oh wow, you are so brave! But I am here for it. I love the mono with black. I have seen Winnie B LV’s painted pieces and have thought she was nuts but the designs were fun. It is kind of nuts but I think I am liking it. My head is spinning with ideas now! 💕
It was very nerve racking the first time I did it. I checked in with myself before I did the firts purse and was like “ok if this goes wrong am I ok with ‘throwing away’ $200 to have fun with?” There are so many ideas for dying the leather and painting! Have fun with it if you do it!
Hello, handbags are my passion! Since the beginning of C-19, I have been selling handbags online. I have purchased vintage luxury handbags and painted and sold a few. I’m enjoying my vintage collection!
Hello, I'm thinking of buying a lv bucket that has been painted, it was black then red now it's painted black again, what do you think? The bag looks really good. Thanks ☺️ Tressa
thats fun! I think make sure you're ok with your money going towards in the case it chips or anything down the road but overall if you love it go for it!!!
I always wanted a speedy 25 from 1989. I got one! In the process of cleaning the leather before I dye it! Have you seen one with a chocolate brown dye? I'm leaning toward that color
Congrats!! 🎊🎉🍾🎈 That’s so exciting!! I haven’t seen one with the brown dye but I bet it would be pretty! The damier ebene print always has treated leather that’s chocolatey brown and I have always thought the mono with choco brown leather would be perfect!
Just FyI in case someone else attempts this. Please please dab the excess dye off. If it’s alcohol base. It will crack up the leather a d have it wrinkle like. Once done take a terry cloth and rub the excess dye off. Dye can sit on top and take longer to dry. Once completely dry add some conditioner to the dye area. Then your matte sealant from agelus!! Thank me later.
That’s a good tip! They say on their website and videos you don’t need anything as a sealant but if you’ve had issues there ya go! This one didn’t have those issues after so I wonder if it has to do with the age of the bag?
Thanks! The girl that bought it told me she’s collecting vintage LV pieces revamped or not for her girls to have down the road! I love being a part of that!
Another question! After painting your vanchetta, Do you use a seal acrylic to seal the paint to protect it from water, when you touch it and to make it seem shinny a little bit? Thanks again! (I left you a message before this one) 😊❤
i wish i had an answer for you im just a crafter and did this a few times I dont know- maybe its the glue they use or something? maybe you can seal the edges with black resin?
OOOH GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN! I would just be sure to show any and all parts of the bag that are damaged... always be honest about the condition of the bags themselves. I sold mine on Ebay and Facebook Marketplace and didnt expect to make much. One I made a pretty great profit and the other I made only a little but I had fun making them!
I didn’t wait a lot of time in between coats but you certainly could! I did not do a sealant as the manufacturer of the leather dye did not recommend it but other people said they would do a sealant I just don’t have a recommendation… but scroll through the comments on here and see what others recommended!
Great question and I did not. The old vachetta leather is not treated so there is no barrier to remove. You can wipe down the leather to remove dirt from it all first. That’s all I did!
its still an "authentic" LV but it will not be able to get repaired by LV and won't be purchased by reseller sites from what I understand. I have found there is a market for people that enjoy preloved "upcycled" LV's!
Hey I mentioned in the video I didn't seal it because the manufacturer of the dye recommends you don't/says you dont need to! Isn't that crazy! But the girl that bought it LOVED IT!
No problem at all! Check eBay there’s always great deals on LV’s that are perfect for project pieces just be sure to check all the pictures closely to see any imperfections and damage.
I don’t have an answer for that on the ready so I would have to research that but I would GUESS yes, it would probably create a barrier between the stain and the elements every time you condition it.
We are in flux with some stuff right now (I’ll do an update video soon-ish lol) but as soon as we settle I’m looking to order and start another one! And I’ll bring you all along for sure!
Hello! I need to paint the vanchetta on a LV crossbody it’s to dry, very!! Should I use the Apple care or can I use saddle soap? Once I use it I have to let it dry?? Thank you!!
@@CarolenGrayToday According to your experience, So, I can moisturizer with apple care or leather conditioner before painting. Sorry to bother but I’m new in this.
@@ivelissechevere7270 you are NO bother at all! I have only done a couple bags but I would probably condition first or you may end up using a lot of leather dye and it may not take evenly. I would google it and see if theres a reddit thread on specifics of it! :-) Also, HAVE FUN!!!
@@CarolenGrayToday Thank you!! I’m so excited to do it. Today I bought my paint and other stuff online. I can’t wait to receive it to start painting my LV Marly. Thank you for reading me! 💕
So my personal opinion is that with the dye the leather can still breathe a little. Painting the leather seems like it would suffocate it and cause it to dry out faster and crack. I could be wrong but it makes sense in my brain! Lol I haven’t painted the leather of any of them though. ☺️
I just bought a florentine belt bag to wear for work, but I truly hate vachetta! I think I am going to attempt to dye it black because i love black with monogram. I bought one in almost new condition, so I'm def controversial! I'm very nervous of getting transfer on the lining.
I had it leak through to the interior of the canvas and don't know how to stop that from happening... best I can tell you is go VERY slow with a very fine small paint brush! GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!
I just bought a cheap LV alma on ebay and plan on dying the vachetta black… i love the look!! And with a new LV bag it is stressful to carry- I get so worried about the vachetta staining, so for my mental health I just purchase pre-loved now. I also bought clear resoline from the same dye brand to seal it after I dye it. I too was worried about dye wearing off, but also the resoline comes in matte, satin, gloss etc… so you can choose the finish which is a bonus to me. I don’t know too much, as I’m still waiting on my alma to arrive in the mail, but it’s worth investigating if you’re worried about dye getting on expensive designer clothes.

I just got a pre-loved one that has treated leather, but I love it and glad I don't have to do anything with it yet. I love watching these.
I love watching people do this to purses too so I decided to try it and had so much fun!!!
Thanks for watching!
omg! love this video. 😍 😀

Love this. Quick question: does the dye you used change the stitching color as well?
It darkened it a little but not by much. It was as if the stitching used had a repellent on it so it wouldn’t soak anything up
Oh and I forgot-Ive been looking for a tutorial on painting on LVs. Your pics of yours were awesome.....any recommendations?
just go slow, use a small bristle brush for any outlining you do and make sure youre using canvas paint :-)
Turned out great!
Thanks! The girl that bought it told me she’s collecting vintage LV pieces revamped or not for her girls to have down the road! I love being a part of that!
Did the yellow thread dye black as well? I'm going to dye a LV vachetta leather strap to the color black. Thank you for this!
It dulled it down a little but I don’t remember it covering it completely!

I didn’t bc the manufacturer didn’t recommend it but you can. ☺️
How do you seal the dye. I have used this product and didnot seal the black kept rubbing off
the manufacturer says you don't need to so I didnt.
Im sure there is some sort of sealant you can use I just dont know what it would be :-)
Thanks for this video
You’re welcome thanks for your tips and tricks as well!
HI I already bought an intact Alma with yucky dark leather. Cheap and if I ruin it , its not too sad. Wish me luck!!
Good luck! And have fun!! 🎉🎉
also, let me know how it turns out!!!

What about the dry time? Are you waiting 24 hours in between coats? Are you doing a sealant of any kind?

Did you have to use a leather deglosser or prep the leather prior to dye in order for it to absorb?
Great question and I did not. The old vachetta leather is not treated so there is no barrier to remove. You can wipe down the leather to remove dirt from it all first.

Such a fun project giving a new life to a tired bag! Do you seal the painted leather after it dries?😀
You don’t have to no! I have a leather sealer but the brand says no you don’t need to!

The apple cleaner always horrible on my bags lv it do well with my coach

Is dying better than painting leather on these bags? Which one is most durable and less maintenance? Thanks!

Will the dye rub off on the handles and stain your hands with daily use?
It shouldn't! Even the makers of the product say it's permanently set :-)
