HAZ Labs made 200 (give or take) TransTrem bass bridges. I have an XL2TA myself, and I've seen TransTrems on XM- and XQ-series (v1 and v2) basses. I've never seen an XP-series equipped with a TransTrem, which would make sense because they were considered an entry-level instrument. But knowing there were only (roughly) 200 TransTrem basses ever built, they truly are special instruments...and I'm never selling mine.
Aesthetics have always been a bugbear for some players. For he, I think headstocks look odd in the 21st century 😄 It’s a tool and should just look how it needs to to function Don’t hold out for a transtrem though- only 200 trem units ever made and we do not know how many made it into XL basses
I remember the trans trem on the guitar but don't think I knew they did it on bass. That's so useful. Having basses in multiple tunings can be quite cumbersome. I would normally be in concert D and drop C and I'm too lazy to quickly tune from concert E to drop d.( actually concert D to drop C) So 2 tuned plus a spare bass for a gig. ( when I was gigging) . I guess a 5 string would work but I've never gone there. I tend to write my own stuff in E and learn covers in E ( if they were originally)then drop the whole band to D for live. But Sam writes in drop d a lot so if we do his songs we end up in drop C live. It's way too complicated . A trans trem is a really good idea. Now I need a cup of tea 🍵. What a lovely collection of basses you have. And also, can you stop doing videos? because every time I watch you I have to go in the garage and play! ( thank you) .. Peace and love brother ✌️ ❤️
Lol! Thanks brother! I have a couple of five strings but even then some lines don’t respond well to being transposed - open strings etc This is a clever solution, but has its issues Expense being the primary one!! 😄
@@mindhead2005 Yeah I agree about open strings. I had a bass player join my band so I could play my drum parts and sing . He was a 5 string player and would play all my 4 string parts differently and my drop d bass parts . It was all a bit weird! The problem with just 2 of us writing and recording all the parts is when live we need at least 1 more member. So we get through a lot of help! All good fun . ✌️❤️🤗
@@mindhead2005 Yes. He played all the same notes. Biut in different positions on different strings. Which is exactly what you are saying about open strings where open strings should be. @@mindhead2005 I was just watching The Damned. A concert they did a couple of days ago.I would say I was a casual fan. It was the original line up just a four piece. I wish I could afford to purchase a model like this one for myself. Even if I could, instrument itself and that TransTrem wouldn’t translate into making me a better player.
That’s a very astute observation. It’s like the guys who buy a €10,000 road bike thinking it will make them faster. Maybe it will, a bit But some of the truly great players had modest instruments There’s no doubt however that having a nice bass is a nice thing regardless of our skill level. The bass I’ve been playing at the gigs I get paid for costs €385 new. It sounds and feels great. I think nowadays with computer controlled production, cheaper guitars can be as good as some of the revered old models of the past. There’ll never be another bass TT, but there are brilliant inexpensive basses :)
Man, have you hit the nail on the head,@@mindhead2005. About 16 years ago in 2008, a couple of amateur musicians that I was trying to start a band with playing hard rock were talking constantly about wanting a bigger PA system than the simple, four channel model that we were rehearsing with in the seller of our bass guitarist. I tried and tried explaining to this other guitar player that our objective should be to get Good before we thought about purchasing better equipment. He was convinced the equipment did all the talking, not the musicians plugging into it. The clothes don’t make the man.
That is so cool lol I need one now. I never knew something like this existed, but its changed my life. Huge fan, and great vid as always.
Lol. It’s super cool! They’re crazy money though. Thank you for the kind words and encouragement
:)
You're one lucky man, there are not too many transtrem basses.!!
I’ve had two. One I sold to a mate and it was stolen in Germany
Keeping this one!!

Wow. What a COOL 😎 Bass Mick. Superb tone and love the tremolo options
She’s a piece of engineering history!
Never fancied the look of these basses but after watching there’s much more than meets the eye. The transpose bar thingy is just bloody cheating ! 😂👍

100% the number of times I’ve seen that! “I’ll start writing when I have a studio setup!”. “We can gig when we have ALL the gear!”
