Sheridan Animation Portfolio 2020 + 2021 [Rejected]

- Here's the portfolios I used to apply for Sheridan's bachelor of animation program! The cutoff this year was 89% and I got a 78%. I was disappointed at first but I'm proud of myself for how hard I worked on it! I'm going into the second year of VCA at Sheridan this upcoming year and will probably try again for animation, but if I don't get in I'll just start looking for a creative/art job without it, because although having a fancy degree helps it's not mandatory in order to be successful. ohhh college applications give me hives... seeing you improve restores a lot of faith, though. hopefully, you'll get in this year. I'm also planning on applying for the 2023 fall semester haha. Really hoping my art improvement can catch up and I can find some naked people to draw... or idk, gain enough confidence to actually start preparing application materials lol

Ooh oh when I saw the layouts I recognized! I saw the stream on the sheridan animation server where people were getting critiques and I saw that one! You did a great job btw!!

Your progress in bg and shape is very impressive. Although my opinion would be to practice 3d forms and their orientation while drawing them or using for reference in updated 2d it seems your characters seem flat while the world has depth. In coloured pieces you might need to duller and gray values more for portraying the same effect. I struggled in similar aspects hence sharing what helps.

i went to a tiny college in ontario for animation & was offered 2 really good jobs before even graduating. all it takes is passion and the drive to improve. you can do it!
Thanks! Yea once I realized sheridan animation wasn’t the only option to be successful it helped me a lot, hopefully I’ll be able to get a good job after I graduate this year!

The portfolio requirements are actually out now, and it isn't due until February I'm pretty sure. So like 4 months :)

Hey, I'm so impressed by both of your portfolios. You are incredibly talented! Do you mind me asking what the other students in the Art Fundamentals certificate were like? Were there any more novice people who were pretty new to most areas of art? That's my case, but I've gotten into the program and have to decide by tomorrow if I'll accept it not. I'm scared that most people in there will be extremely advanced artists like you, and I won't be able to keep up! Any sort of feedback you could give me would help so much, thanks a lot.
There was definitely a mix of skill levels, I actually felt like I wasn’t as good as other artists but everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and no one is really judging each other :)
TBH this years the grade gap is due to Oscar awards. (I got in this program 2 years ago, back when the accept rate was 150 out of 1200. This year my professor told me they received about 1800 portfolios )
There are lots of paid portfolio institutions around Toronto(mass producing portfolios), I believe there will be more next year LOL.
This makes me sorta nervous i wanna apply to calarts in a few years and I know it’s gonna be hard eheh also if you don’t have the animators survival kit i would recommend it, it has helped me a bunch also you should probably work on your anatomy more not trying to be rude just i have been watching your vids since 2018 and wanna see you succeed 😅

hi i have a question how does it work? i've watched a lot of people that applied and for apply everyone use the same exercises. Like the sme juice box and those characters for storyboard practices.So in school they are teaching you guys that and later if you wanna apply you have to show?so pls can anybody tell how does it work?

As long as your grades are above 65% (I think) you're good! It's mainly based on the portfolio :)
