    1:39 place darker lines where shadows would fall. Use darker lines to show weight of objects to, so heavier things would be darker.

    Highly amusing. And helpful! Thanks for making this, props to you for making your portfolio DURING university!! I am working on mine in high school and already that feels like a lot. I hope you keep up your art though, it is really good. And 84% is pretty high for your first time applying :D

    HUH the score for the animation and the rotation is quite unfair... the rotation had very clean consistency and features, and the animation had really nice action + demonstrated a lot of the principles of animation!
    I forgot if you discussed if you will be reapplying or not in the video, but I wish you luck either way! Your portfolio was awesome

    I love watching these portfolio videos. I'm not going to Sheridan I don't think, but I like how you went through your thought process. These also give me new artists to follow

    I know what they were thinking on the animation… they really wanted to see more exaggerated squash and stretch.

    Ok, I have watched a TON of these and I am not at a point in my life where I could ever feasibly go to Sheridan or any other animation school aside from the program I’m attending, BUT. I have learned that they like to see your under drawings. They want you to show your work. So, with the hands, have red/blue construction lines, same goes for character rotation and figure drawing. So, hopefully that helps whoever needs it!

    This was a really insightful video. I think you learned a lot from going through this process. If you did want to regroup and reapply you would definitely know how to approach with more tactics and experience. Do you need to score 100 to be accepted? Do they give you any kind of brief or guidelines on what to produce other than the category titles?

    Tracing over resources is definitely a good time saver. But when you're making a portfolio to show off your drawing skills and abilities? Ehh..... feel like you're just lying at that point.
    Thanks for sharing though.

    What with this "Sheridan" school why a lot of people talk about, when i research about animator portfolio?

  • @maratusart6583
    @maratusart6583 9 месяцев назад +1

    I would say maybe the animation wasn’t clear enough? I think everything just happened way too fast and the volume of the box didn’t keep its consistency. Like when you squash something it needs to keep its volume. You don’t just make it smaller vertically, you have to make it wider horizontally too, you know what I mean? Omg wait I’m not saying this to criticize you or anything I just wanna be helpful for future reference 😭

  • @HanaSong-un8hv
    @HanaSong-un8hv 9 месяцев назад +6

    tracing huh.....that's no difference than cheating, best artists don't trace they learn perspective and draw everything from scratch.

    • @halcyon.x
      @halcyon.x 7 месяцев назад +4

      while i don’t think he should have traced in his portfolio, saying that the best artists don’t trace and do everything from scratch is just false. plenty of professional artists trace in order to save time. tracing doesn’t necessarily mean cheating. along with a basic understanding of perspective, it can be a great way to get the general idea of an image’s perspective. tracing is just another tool at artists’ disposal.

    • @stephlala094
      @stephlala094 6 месяцев назад +1

      Correction, the best artists trace CORRECTLY. They don't just trace everything, they trace to help themselves practice, many did it while they were beginners too. And certain commission painters trace the photo that they are painting because they get paid to paint, not draw.

    • @Atlas-oo5io
      @Atlas-oo5io 4 месяца назад

      Correction, he traced wrong. You need to break down shapes when you trace and then Redraw the shapes by yourself. Tracing should be used to help break down references.

    • @HanaSong-un8hv
      @HanaSong-un8hv 2 месяца назад

      Correction, there is a literal disclaimer in the portfolio requirements that tracing/rotoscoping is not allowed and that it WOULD result in an immediate zero. It's great for learning or understanding a process, it's indefensible when you're showcasing your personal skills but the perspective work/environment is already done for you, which many struggle on. They're lucky to not have been caught, and it's unfair to the other applicants.
