    Looking good.
    Totoally agree with you saying about the closer to the A pillar the bar is, the better it was made up. This has a big effect on forwards visibility aswell. As encroaching on the cabin space. So the tighter the better for sure.
    You made a really good fitting A pillar bar. Mine isn't quite as tight as your one, and its something I am a little disappointed with on mine. Its not bad, bit it could have been better. But I had already wasted 6m of 1.75" tube by that stage.

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  6 лет назад

      It's definitely pretty crappy when you end up wasting a bunch of tube with how expensive it is and the time it takes, I know that feeling pretty well lol.
      Have you seen the rotational gauges that they make specifically for tube bending? SWAG offroad makes one and so do a few other companies. I'm definitely going to invest in one for the next cage I build since it looks like a much more accurate way of setting the correct offset for tubes like the A pillar bars, as well as making sure each bend is on a zero degree plane.

    • @BramBiesiekierski

      Dirty Garage
      I havent seen those gauges specifically. I was using an Intercomp digital angle finder. Its basically a 2" cube, with 3 sides that are magnetic, and an LCD display which will tell you the angle from horizontal. (Down to 2 decimal places)
      It works pretty good, and i used it and some protractors and such to build my cage. My issue with building the front legs wasnt so much an issue finding angles, it was just an issue calculating the bends to be ideal.
      And its not too bad. I just think i could have done it better. Along the top (horizontal) part of the front lateral, i cannot even put my pinky finger in the gap. Along the vertical leg of the bar, i can just fit my pinky in the gap. But the diagonal part that runs along the A pillar, it starts off at the top less than a pinky fingur distance, but gradually spreads to about a thumbs width from the side at the lower part of the windshield. So that plus 1.75" tube kind of adds up to a bit. I think the base of the windshield is the most critical for vision, you dont really look out the top unless your going up-hill.

      Dirty Garage
      Do you mean the "plane of bend" locking clamp on SWAG?
      That looks like it will fit my INTERCOMP angle finder perfectly. My angle finder looks identicle, except it is an intercomp brand.

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  6 лет назад

      Yeah that's the one, SWAG sells it separately from the gauge so having that gauge already would be a plus, there are a couple of other manufacturers that make something similar but SWAG seems the cheapest.

    In Aus we have to get a certified roll cage builder to build our cages, is it different for you? Love your videos keep it up!

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  6 лет назад +2

      It is different over here, but every cage must be certified after being built by a scrutineer through the racing organization who is usually a very experienced cage builder.

    • @BramBiesiekierski
      @BramBiesiekierski 6 лет назад +1

      @ Cryo
      That is incorrect.
      In Australia you DO NOT need to get a "certified" cage builder to build the cages. Anyone can build a cage, provided the cage is built correctly.
      The safety cage needs to meet the requirements set out in the regulations you are building it to, for the type of competitions the car will be entering. (Some regulations will even state that a cage doesnt even have to meet those regulations, provided it has been shown that it has been designed and specc'd sufficiently, and certified.)
      Who builds it is not really that important, aslong as its built right. There is no such thing as a roll cage trade certificate in this country.
      Who told you the cage needs to be built by a certified builder???

      @@BramBiesiekierski I have a race car myself and I went through the whole car Club I'm in asking how do I get a certified cage put in, every single person said take it to a metal fabrication place that are certified to do so and they will make it for you. 100% you need a certified person to build the cage otherwise it does not comply and it's then deemed unsafe.

    • @BramBiesiekierski
      @BramBiesiekierski 6 лет назад +1

      Cryo
      Thats Bullshit!!! Anyone can build a cage. It just has to meet the regulations of the governing body of the events you want to enter. Then an inspector will need to check that it complies and is built of high enough quality, and sign off on it.
      In Australia, most things fall under CAMS authority. But there are different levels of events, and they require different grades of roll cage.
      Most amature speed events here dont even require a roll cage to enter.
      What events are you to be entering?

    • @cryo6093
      @cryo6093 6 лет назад

      @@BramBiesiekierski for events that don't require a roll cage yes anyone can build one as long as it's safe but otherwise you 100% need a certified person to build it
