I loved the chat with Anthony so much. Really helpful tips and advice from him especially how to apply lighting in your home if you’re on a budget. Your conversation together was so warm and engaging, it really is a testament to you Sophie as a boss that your employees love and respect you and how far you’ve come as a presenter because I know at the start you would always say you’re nervous but now you’ve become a natural at this. Very important topic. When I built my house 15 years ago (with 3 small children) I was overwhelmed by the amount of work and thoughts that had to be done in advance. I had no interior designer and did all by myself. And despite of very fews things, I have regretted and could have done better, the lighting is one of them. And I think one day there has to be a revision, thanks for the inspiration.

Hands down one of the best and most informative videos available on lighting! Sally and Anthony provide so much helpful, next level information. I have Sally’s Inspired By Light book and am learning something new on each page.
Sophie, thank you for making your very high end projects so relatable; and providing insight and resources for us. I’ll be watching this video many times. If possible, I’m very interested to learn how the hidden lighting is done. For shelving or on walls, what lights do we use and how it is installed would be so helpful and much appreciated. Your videos are so well done and you have provided lots of inspiration. Thank you and please keep up the great work! ❤

My question about lighting design for the living room in particular….how does one know where to position lights like down lights and spotlights on the ceiling before the layout of furniture/decor is finalised? I would have loved some sort of lighting illuminating my coffee table and a few side tables but unfortunately the exact furniture layout was determined after the Reno was completed. How do the experts do it?

    • @sophiepatersoninteriorsltd

Thank you, that is lovely to hear. The tricky thing with lighting is you have to do it so early but you have to know your furniture layout and even where you are putting art in order to get it right. So we design everything then design the lighting before the work commences on site.

You could do that although I feel it would probably be too much unless the picture was very large and there was a significant distance between the wall lights and the picture light- at least 1 metre I would say. Probably safer to remove the wall lights. Or the picture light and just have a directional spotlight illuminating it.

In the UK, I've gone over 100% from the EU mandated 'eco'-lightbulbs to full spectrum Tungsten. It hasn't been simple & most of my T's are 30 years old! But working perfectly. The difference is from a bitter, cold dysfunctional environment to 'warm sunny uplands' as Churchill quoted in a different context! The 'wasted power' is very welcome as added heating, spread fairly evenly across rooms - after all you click lights on when it's cool or cold.. Colours show up so much better that I've moved many pictures & some furniture to take better advantage. T's are even better in the bug-killing department as flies are attracted to the light then fried on the hot bulb! (I'm v. ecological otherwise, never owned a car, don't travel, etc., so my carbon footprint can hopefully afford this extravagance). PS. Anyone know of a reliable source of tungsten bulbs accessible to the UK??😄

'Not everyone likes the 2700K incandescent bulb color, however, and certain installation locations could benefit from a higher color temperature. The primary concern with 2700K is that it can appear quite yellow or orange, such that everything appears "washed out" with a yellow hue. '
From Waveform lighting, Most led lights I see in other people's houses actually look pale 'washed out' White to me.. P'haps they are lower K.. Using less room-heating, whatever the source is surely ev-friendly. (I don't want warm light, rather full-spectrum white Shades can adjust what fills the room pretty well).
