I successfully ran my first full marathon 2 weeks ago. Up to that point my longest run was 18 miles. I had done 22 miles split up between a 10 and 12 miler in the same day. I normally run on flat ground and had not been doing any running hill work, (although I am a big hiker, and had done some trail running, but it wasn't part of my consistent training regimen). The difference between 18 miles and 26 miles is huge, but they say if you can hit that 20 mile mark, you can grind out that final 10K. My race featured A LOT of hills, and it wore me down pretty hard. I also don't feel like I carb loaded enough prior. My knee was hurting for the last 8 miles, but I kept pushing forward. At the final stretch, the crowd was roaring and clapping, and I could hear the announcements over the PA system. The adrenaline rush hit me and I sprinted the final 50 meters or so. My buddy who came to show support (both of us military veterans) jumped out along side me and we crossed the finish line together. It was such a surreal moment and an incredible experience. I'm still recovering from the race (the knee issue) but I can't wait to get back to the grind and run my next one. Looking to do a 50K ultra.

For hydration take a look at "Gel Water" and how this relates to running and biking and to give an example to put in a teaspoon of ground chia seeds to your hydration mix....this helps covert the water into gel water H3O2 and gives this slower uptake consistant up take....great off the bike when getting enough fluids becomes more difficult . Do a little home work....suggest it to your coach to check out. Great work as usual
1 week to the next having a 7 BPM lower HR might show you were better recovered this time out. The active recovery ride is a solid concept. The first swim after a long run I try and do a long-ish kick set. I used the step approach to my long runs this past summer for a race that was ultimately canceled 🙃.

It's those two little bottles in hand he is preparing in the video he bought from Amazon. They have little grips that go in his hand. He holds them and runs.
Was running on the woodway while watching/listening to this and was literally counting my cadence when you mentioned it😂right on par with 30 foot drops on the left in 20 seconds!👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Hey Nick, how do you go about having micronutrients within your diet? With the amount and intensity of your workouts, I feel they are essential to keep your body functioning. I know you take supplements in order to fulfill those needs, but I feel that having those real fruits and veggies are very important
It's good to witness and know that you can still build and keep muscle with all the cardio you're doing. I guess it depends on the amount of distance you're covering as well, if you did more you'd lose the muscle right?

I'm curios about your calories for that 18 mile run. I figured that was ~3600-3700 calories, which honestly seems kind of low for that amount of cardio. I'd think you'd still be in a pretty big deficit after that, but maybe that's the point?
What was the pace difference between last week and this week? “About the same pace” isn’t a measurement. If you ran even 10 seconds faster per mile, that would be a big enough difference to have a +7 bpm change.
