You can mine the pilar only the bottom layer so no stone can touch the ground and ''BOOM'' the pilar will collapse.

I do rather like the fulings' roofs (rooves? No - but English is weird and I love it). The layered skin look is really neat, I kinda wish we could use it ourselves. Temporary camp-outs, say? Would be a really neat option.
