    Love these videos, youre the best judoka on youtube. I loved the other no gi vids you did during the coronavirus, but they were a little short and you couldnt demonstrate the full take down due to the small size of your room. Now that youre back in the gym can you keep doing more no gi take down vids? And maybe do like a part 2 to all the no gi vids you did during the coronavirus.

    I am a bit curious, most of the time the collar ties that we do in wrestling have the arm on inside bicep control instead of outside (I find it a lot easier to do things like duck unders, etc), what’s the motivation/advantage from an outside bicep grip?

    Iv found ippon works best for me by cupping the upper outside of their elbow and doing the standing variety of this throw. Works well for me if they are leaning in to me. Just wondering why you favor the left hand taking the over the elbow and pinning the arm grip? Would you still use this grip for a standing seio?

I had to abandon the arm spin for bjj until my coach showed me this. He was an Iranian wrestler turned bjj, so we had to make adjustment when needed.
      In sure there's all kinds of ways to adjust so this happens. I only made this comment after being choked so many times. I guess it's a journey. But really fun.

      @jsl8461 3 года назад

      I guess it depends on what your goal is.
      If it's any kind of Olympic wrestling rule set you aren't going to lose points for attempting the throw. It will be ruled a slip. There is still a lot of risk because now you need to defend a mat turn but the reward is 4 points, so that's pretty awesome.
      If it's BJJ you only get 2 points for a successful throw (and you have to establish the top position too, something you don't need to do in wrestling) and you need to defend the back take attempt, so the risk reward isn't as good. But if you've got a great seoi nage and you are confident at defending your back, it might be worth it. Saulo Ribiero tries to hit a seoi nage in pretty much every one of his matches, regardless of gi or no gi.
      One thing that may affect your decision is whether it's early in the match with no sweat, or later in the match with lots of sweat.
      And finally, if you're just trying to learn grappling skills, attempting seoi nage is a great way to learn how to throw AND learn how to defend your at the same time. Any advanced grappler should get good at defending chokes and back hooks from turtle or the referee's position. Even though traditional BJJ teaches not to expose your back, it's actually quite common in high level grappling competition. Exposing your back is not nearly as dangerous for black belts as it is for white belts. While there is always risk of a choke or the 4 point back hooks, with enough experience these become manageable threats (even against other black belts), and giving up back exposure can allow you to defend guard passes, sweeps, takedowns, submissions, etc and can also open up scrambles.
