    Amazingly, The Solar Impulse completed its journey around the world in June or July 2016. The sky is NOT the limit! My respect to those who made it possible...

    This wonderful plane flew overhead while I was on the outskirts of Moffett Field hoping to catch a glimpse of it in the early morning hours. How quiet, majestic and beautiful when flew by! Truly a marvel!

    this is the revolution :D once over the clouds u can fly forever.. or atleast so long as u have food and water but ... this is pure awesomeness!!! This is what changes the world! Awesome work!

    What a beautiful, elegant, and majestic airplane! Stunning images of plane flying over The Pyramids in Egypt, and flying over the San Francisco Bridge! Great pilots, and team: inspiring optimism, open-mindedness, and un-bias! Saint-Exupéry's "NIGHT FLIGHT" ("Vol de Nuit") published in 1931, has a lot in common with, and is very relevant to the "Solar Impulse 2" project: a MUST read, after watching Nova's 2018 documentary on this enterprise: "The Impossible Flight!

    Very exciting and very futuristic. If life has to sustain on planet we must move away from fossil fuel. The entire human race supports this endevour.

    Love the Dobro Background Music, in the beginning, I would like to know who is the artist, and what he or she has recorded other than this background. Fantastic work all the way around and my appreciation to all. This makes me so very proud to be a French National. Thank you France for accepting my application and granting me citizenship....

      Saying that it can fly indefinitely is highly misleading since it can fly for only 36 hours.

    i have one question, this technology can be transfered to a motorcycle per example??
    this video and this event remind me to 1900's when wright brothers created the first aeroplane, this is the next step, this is the future...

    i am from the Philippines i am amazed when i saw this video. HOPEFULLY that this will be improved more and more and become a passenger transportation.THIS CAN HELP THE WORLD. " SAVE THE WORLD" NOT ALWAYS MONEY MONEY OIL OIL FUEL PLEASE STOP OF THINKING ABOUT MONEY START TO THINK A GOOD THINGS FOR OUR MOTHER EARTH REMEMBER IS climate change now. WE ARE SUFFERING IN IT ALSO. SO THANKFUL TO GOD AND God gave an instrument through with this TWO men who invented the SOLAR AIRPLANE
    I CALL EVERYONE TO SUPPORT THIS AND LIKES AND SHARES INTO YOUR FACEBOOK PROFILE PAGES. "WORLD IS NOT BLIND"

    This is just a show! old stuff. The first large scale "solar updraft" towers are completed in 2015. Arizona. Solar power may be free but that does not mean that you don't have to pay for the energie. ps what kind of weels are those L and R at 8:59 ? "Flintstones-weels" ?

    Yeah for now. Btw, like they said, all technology that they gave on this airplane can be use for the ground. That's must be something another practical, don't they?

  • @theyearoftherat

    at 50mph max the scenery had better be good because that would be an utterly painful and long flight

    • @michaelbuckingham8639
      @michaelbuckingham8639 8 лет назад

      Yea but it wouldn't be painful cos it would be a quieter flight, a cheaper flight and all round more fun. I get on a plan these days and the air is bad and it's so noisy!
      I would love to fly on a plan like this. They can Improve the speed but I'd certainly sacrifice some time for a flight like this. And put on some pretty air stewards too :p

    Traditional materials overruled by composite materials. A case which needs a lot of attention in stability and navigation under difficult weather conditions. Perhaps a combination of both this new existing technology and the conventional technology of aircraft manufacturing would have a lot more to save, in energy and provide better overall efficiency. When you cannot reach the right results of a new innovation it's best to couple your idea with an existing one should you really need to. It is far more successful and less egoistic.

    Well done we can now smash facts in front of those that for money interest say solar is not enough. No. Solar is free and doesn’t give enough return of investment. That’s the problem.

    Someone get them a taller set of ladders or a wee scaff tower. That tech's gonna break his neck.

  • @jjmonns
    @jjmonns 11 лет назад

    Well when real planes need way more energy than they can gather from the sun during flight then yes oil and gas are way more practical simply because they can't be replaced by solar panels. Solar panels have their place but its not on planes as a primary power source.

  • @JohnSmith-pd1fz
    @JohnSmith-pd1fz 9 лет назад +2

    Oh look! How to make people believe this aircraft was invented, built and flown in America. NOT.

  • @jjmonns
    @jjmonns 11 лет назад

    Technically any plane that can burn diesel can be solar powered through the use of biodiesel which is WAY more practical than this thing. If the resources spent developing this was used to develop technology that is real and tangible and not people's uneducated and utopian ideas. Even if the motors were 100% efficient and the solar cells were perfect it still would not be practical. You can't reinvent the laws of physics no matter how much you want them to be different.

    Worthwhile endevor. But I can hardly watch the video with the bombastic music and idiotic MTV video. It seems like a really bad propaganda commercial. - Better to tell the simple story in a straight forward way without all the beginner editing. Show us takeoffs and landings. Show the plane more, and the technology. Show the inside as you cruise over the vast mountains and deserts. Is it quiet inside?

    It is slow, no good for transport at all. Too big. And this is NOT ecological at all. That panels were build from something and you will need years to get amount of energy which were used to construct back.
