What a nice machine! It will open up a whole lot of sewing options. I bought my first serger last month and love it. I bought mine from an internet retailer after watching a few videos as there are no sewing shops near me. The first thing I made was a cover for it! Enjoy your machine and please keep us updated.

Congratulations! Funny story - last summer I got my first ever server used from a thrift store for $65 and was able to learn how to thread it and use it for a project or two. Right after your video posted, the serger started malfunctioning. No matter what I tried, the stitches were messing up. So I gave up and just bought the same serger you got on Amazon. 😂

Oh, that's so funny!! I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you had, but I'm glad the video was helpful and hope your new serger works out fine. We can learn together!

You did it! It took me several years to do it but I joined the word of serging as well with a more basic Brother serger. I basically use it to neaten up seams. It will take some more time for me to get used to the idea of completely serging a garment together. Sergers are even being used for quilting but I haven't seen that done yet. Happy Sewing!

Hi Deb! Thanks so much for your sweet comment. I feel I'll do it the same way, just kind of work my way up with the learning process. When I was at the first sewing shop testing out the Viking serger, the clerk showed me examples of quilts that had been done with a serger. I'd never seen anything like it!

At the fabric store where I go for most of my sewing classes, serging is taught in the basic sewing classes now. Students are taught to serge along the seams like I'm currently doing. I think that started just within the last 5-7 years actually. I never learned to do that when I took my first basic sewing classes. It's definitely a learning process!

Yay Angela! Glad you got started playing with it right away 😁
I didn’t like the tweezers that came with my Brother 1034d I bought a long time ago. Threading is easy (when you get the hang of it) but if you find it difficult to control the threads with the tweezer it came with, consider using different tweezers. It made a big difference for me and made threading a lot easier when I used a different tip style. I can give you more info on that later if you want, but maybe the sergers today come with better tweezers than the kind I got 🙂
    Have fun playing!! 😃

Thanks MIchelle! I appreciate the tip about the tweezers. I'll probably be changing thread for the first time in the next day or so, so we'll see how it goes!

Hi Angela, congratulations on your new serger.
I had my for 2 years before I took it out of the box and as soon as I figured out how to use it, I haven't stopped. 😅😅😅
I have a Brother surger also, I've heard great things about the one you picked out... But they're all great by Brother. Have a blessed day a happy serging!😊

Congratulations! Got the 1034d myself a couple years ago. I really liked the review and recommendation from Angelina at Blueprint DIY. I love mine and now use it all the time! I find it easy to thread and use the quick-change method by tying the threads off as much as I can. I mostly use it for knit projects. Finishing some seams. I haven't tried out the fancy uses but maybe that will come in the future! I bought the Serger Technique Bible and it provides good tips and techniques.

Hi there! Thank you so much! I can't wait to really get to using it regularly. I'm going to look into the book you mentioned, thanks for the tip!

Congratulations! That is the serger that I bought a few years back and it worked great for about 4 years. It quit chaining but I was able to find a video that walked me through adjusting the timing and it's back to great again. One thing I keep meaning to do though is actually try out all of the things in the manual. I've done the rolled hem but that's about it and it seems there's so much more it can do. I'm sure I'll get around to it someday😄. Anyway, have fun playing with your new toy. Looking forward to your next video.

Thank you! That's so great that you were able to figure out and adjust the timing yourself - way to go! I'll probably use mine for basics at first but hopefully, I'll get fancy with it down the line. Hope you're having a great week!

Congratulations on your new acquisition 😀😀. I know you are going to love the serger! It is a game changer for sewing with knits and finishing the seams on your woven garments 🙌🏻🙌🏻. I have to watch a video for every time I need to change the threads, but maybe one day I will remember how to do it 🤣🤣🤣.
    Have a great week 💕💕

    Threading a 1034d serger

I have been surging for decades. When I was learning I kept 5 spools of different color surger thread handy so that when I got frustrated with the tension not adjusting correctly I rethreaded the surger with my 4/5 colors so I could easily see what thread was causing the tension issue and follow the directions in my serger book for adjusting the tension.

My Viking 250 is a little over a year old. Once I learned how to thread it I’m good. No problems with it. I would like to learn how to do other things with it. Currently I just use 4 thread serging. would love to get one of those air threaders.

Thanks for sharing! An air threader would be such a sweet luxury, for sure!!

I have the Viking 250s and I’m not impressed. It always has tension issues and has trouble grabbing fabric to begin serging. It didn’t come with any extra feet. IMO, it’s not worth the $550 I paid. I’ve been thinking about getting the Brother 1034d. It has so many great reviews. Thank you for sharing all the info and your unboxing.

Congratulations! I got the same serger in February and have loved using it since! There are so many tutorials on RUclips since it’s such a popular machine. I also thought a lot about how nice air threading would be, but also decided that so much extra money wasn’t worth it for the feature yet. It’s actually pretty simple to thread once you do it a few times and I don’t have issues with my vision that make threading needles difficult.
Have fun playing! I sewed up some pillowcases for charity as my first full projects on it and it was a really great thing to start with.

Thank you! What a great first project! 😊 I've watched a bunch of threading videos over and over and I feel like I can already do it, having seen it done so many times, lol!

I guess you could say I down graded lol. I bought an air threading a Babylon about 25 years ago. Still works great but now bought the brother 3400dx as a backup. I can now go from one to the other without changing settings.

Hi. I am so happy for you. I have the Baby lock (vibrant) version of this machine and I love mine. The only difference is my machine opens on both sides for threading. You are going to love having a serger. Have a nice day.
