Wow. Very professional! I love the closeup shots. U did a great job explaining the little details for beginners, and the people who have been sewing for a little bit (me). Bravo man!
Wow, an instructional video where everything is explained in simple terms with no unnecessary chat, in a voice I could listen to all day! Managed to get it right first time thanks to you.
Not many tutorials get straight to the point, I hate it when they are half way through and all they do is waste time talking about their lives, introducing their kids and pets, telling us what they did and where they went on vacation, WHO CARES? When I look for a video I want them to get straight to the point, that is why I hate lives too, too much time wasted on saying HI to everyone that get on the chat!
I've had my Brother machine for 18 months and have about 8 of these feet. I keep them in a drawer and occasionally look at them and think, 'What the heck are you for?' Now I know. 😊
I don't know why I always gets so astounded seeing guys do this type of art, since they are some of the best cooks and tailors on the planet. Go guys, go.
I cook. I sew. I embroider. I do laundry & make the beds. And I can change a baby diaper with the best of 'em. I'm a certified fitness instructor & I teach fitness classes at our local YMCA for a living and to help keep myself and my participants fit. But I'm also an ASE certified automotive technician, an accomplished machinist, computer programmer (since the C64 days using primarily C++ and MS Visual Basic 6), semi-pro paid photographer since 1982, accomplished electronics designer & technician both analog & digital. I can also ride & handle both street & dirt motorcycles, hunt & fish, set & collect traps, service and maintain and shoot several types of firearms, and defend myself if needed. Not intending to toot horn here, I am a humble & very thankful person. The point of this comment is to show that it is very much possible - and nowadays more acceptable - for either a man or a woman to have the abilities and to fill roles which are traditionally stereotyped to gender :). I like to do a bit of both and my wife SO appreciates it :). Great video & demonstration. I have a small serger but it is a pain to keep it threaded & happy. But my beloved Kenmore 385.xx sewing machine has the "C" overcast foot and now thanks to you I know when & how to use it :)
Eloise Kinder yes exactly I was surprised to see a man instead of woman that cool thou 💓 that’s how it should be a job shouldn’t be limited to gender 😊😌
The thing that blew me away with this video, wasn’t learning how to use the overlock stitches, but rather how to use the flipping automatic needle threader! When I saw you do it so easily, I gave it a try on my 3-year old machine. I’ve never been able to figure it out before! Thank you for saving me a lot of headaches.
I'm SO glad I found this channel. 6 weeks ago I started a dressmaking for beginners class. My teacher absolutely hates me for asking sewing questions & when I took in my fabric cutter she told me to get shears 🙄 some ppl are just nasty for nothing 💙💜🏴
Excellent tutorial! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years and I learned new and interesting things from your video. I also loved your calm and precise explanation of what you were showing the viewer. Well done, Sir!
One reason I’ve been loving Brother since 1986 is that the accessory feet transport across all their models. Yep, the special purpose feet I bought for my 1986 machine also attach to & work on my 2005 model, and vice versa. 🥰
I've been experimenting occasionally with overcasting and overclocking stitches, but as an intermediate sewist, this has been a great addition. Thanks!
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen on YT and SO INFORMATIVE - have changed my mind & not buying a serger - just going to keep with my Brother sewing machine, NOW I know what to do with one of the 100's of feet I have in a box!!!! Thank you so much and you've just got yourself a new subscriber.
You should be wearing your underpants on the outside, cos you’re my new super hero. Just bought a brother machine like yours and was struggling to overcast on some flimsy material. Relatively new sewer so didn’t know about the feet. Just tried G and it was perfect. Thanks so much
I've had my older Brother model for years and just unboxed it(again) to sew during quarintine. I searched for hours to find a demo of some of the presser feet I had become unfamiliar with when I came across your video... it solved 2/3 of my problem because the feet #'s were the SAME! Thank you sooo much and good job!
I was going to purchase a serger but with all the different threading I wasn't sure. Since Im a beginner at sewing this technic will do just fine. Thank you so much
My server only gets used when I'm doing very long seams or piecing stuff together for really large projects. A good zig-zag overcast will do just as well for every normal project. The variations this video so clearly shows are useful for one step sewing the seam and overcasting. Well done!
This is easy to follow for a beginner. I loved that you showed the picture of the stitches in the manual. My manual doesn't state which stitches are for overcasting. Thank you!
I love how you demonstrated how to do serging work using a regular sewing machine and that is knowledge I will need and so will others who are new to sewing also. I enjoyed the video and have leaned something new and will apply what I have learned when stitching material together.
I want to thank you for this tutorial. After watching countless videos, I finally understand! You made it all so clear. I never knew I had to change the foot and I never understood where to line up the edge of the material. It’s all so clear now and I was actually able to do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😊
Very nice and clear! Usually I get frustrated (since I self-teach almost everything when it comes to sewing) because I don't quite understand tutorials, but yours was very nice, very straight to the point that even dumb me could get it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
You just helped my project go to the next level. Appreciate you and your video. Thank you so much for being so detailed. I didn’t realize how much I need to learn about sewing.
I just got this machine and found your video on how to use the overcasting foot incredibly helpful. I've never sewed before so i watched your unboxing first to understand the machine. Seriously great how to's. Thank you!!!
I'm already a stitching pro, with over 40 years of machines under my hoodie. I just always love to see what the stitching dudes come up with. A very simple and informative video! Well done!
I have a new Brother sewing machine similar to this one, and just did an overcasting stitch. I didn't know whether the right stitch should actually go INTO the fabric, and obviously it just barely does! So thank you!
I have been wanting to over case stitch on some things but thought I need a surger. Now I know how to make it work on my reg machine!!! Thank you so much! Idk there was a tutorial either!! Im old old school.
Very nice, I just started using the overcasting hitch, it is definitely nice, but there is nothing better than my surger! Thank you so much for the video, very well laid out
Everything I’ve learned, I’ve self-taught or learned through RUclips! This was so simple to understand and I really appreciate how you took the time to show examples of clothing with overcast stitching and why you would want to use that stitch. Thank you! New subscriber based off of this video alone! I’m an intermediate sewer and I’ve started sewing garments. This was so helpful!
oxmanagain I’ve made some baby items, a quilt, lots of baby bows, some pillows, pillow covers, and I’ve hand sewn garments- so having a machine is definitely making life much easier!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It was well done an extremely helpful. I have sewn on and off for years, but had never used a serger or over overlock. Either I didn’t have one or as now, I have a new Brother machine, but was afraid to even monkey with it. It’s absolutely ridiculous because I’m very tall and almost always need to alter clothing. More specifically, shirts that are stretchy and made of thin material. After all these years, I’m finally going to alter the pile of shirts sitting next to my sewing machine after watching your video and now that I’ve had the help that I needed! Again, thank you so much!❤️
I know right... Like... I was over here snapping for him like Im at a spoken word event!! Yess!! Im trying to sew not take a nap! But ok- ima lay down for just a second...👏🏾🙌🏾✊🏾.😜🚶🚶😔
Amazing tutorial ! Thank you so much ! I was struggling to do these stitches and even when I read the manual it wasn't that easy to understand as your explanation :)
Thank you so much for your video! I loved that you actually showed the feet you can use, the manual and what it looks like on your machine. Very helpful! I was ready to throw in the towel but your tutorial helped me get through my sewing project!
That was a great video! I was almost going to by a overcast foot for my brother sewing machine but my machine already came with all the feet including the overcast foot! Glad I found that out before purchasing one! Thank you!
For years I used a basic machine and an overcast stitch to prepare denim patches for my work overalls. I had no issues. Recently, however, I stumbled on to a nice Husqvarna serger/coverstich machine for a song. I know I'm gonna like the speed with which I can prepare large patches now...
Great job guy ive been trying to sew for years i just got a brother project runway machine today trying to learn to make kilts and zoot suits did it as a teen in school 1980s very unheard of and taboo black young boy and making my own clothes but as i can see all that has changed im glad but back then nothing stopped me the teasing didnt stop me im 55 now but just started back last janurary the new machines are a challenge i learned on a 1980 fashionmate singer keep up the good work
My sister has been teaching me to sew but she can’t be here all the time. So I found your video on the overcasting stitch. It was clear and very helpful. I appreciated you showing the different fabrics and stitches.
oxmanagain it truly did help. The only issue I’m having is figuring out how to adjust the tension because my threads seem loose. I’m hanging on to this video for reference for when I get stuck! Thanks again!
Omg 😲 such a helpful video. I have this sewing machine and never knew how to use the G foot. I was actually going to buy a serger. You saved me a lot of money.
Fantastic close up images, and detailed explanations. Thank you for the video. I have a simpler and older Brother machine that has a built in “overlock stitch”. I felt intimated but now I can practice.
Very good instructional video. Any machine that does a stretch stitch can replace a serger. Unless one sews an incredible amount of knit wear using the same patterns over and over, a serger can be an expensive extravagance.
That's a mighty fancy machine you've got there. Mine is old and simple (like me). I just finish my edges with pinking shears. Lol Want to see what other tricks you might know, so I'm gonna subscribe. Excellent video with great info. Much appreciated. Thank You!
Great tutorial. I like the J foot for overcasting but also use an S foot which simulates a serger by cutting off the edge. It does a great job on stiffer fabrics. Not as good on knits. I love your videos. Thanks .
I so wish I had seen your video a few months back! I inherited my Mum’s Brother m/c and I struggled to start off with, as I tried to figure it out on my own - your video explains it so clearly. Thank you!
You assume everyone starts with no previous knowledge then build on that so absolutely everyone can join in. EVERYONE! I thought those were just weird embroidery stiches, and what a relief to know what I already have can do the job so no more money needed. Subscribed, and I wish you well!
Great instructional video. I am glad I found it because I want to try that stitch exactly for some expanded pillowcases. Having a dude teach me just adds that extra level of comfort for another guy; and your tone and manner of teaching is so cool, clam and collected. I look forward to checking out your other videos. Thanks.
Wow! Great explanation. Great demonstration. Great camera work. Best demonstration of overlocking that I've seen. Really liked the example at the end that showed overlocking in everyday clothing. Thank you!
Thank you for making this look sooooo easy. I am quite to sewing. I can now dust my Brothers machine off and start sewing. Please demonstrate how to use the other sewing feet and how to use a walking foot PLEASE! I cant wait to start sewing.
I'm new to your channel and I'm so excited I found you. I just bought a new Brother machine and I have learned more from watching your videos than reading the manual. Thank you for your great videos.
WOW love this video, I have a brother different model but similar and I have both feet not knowing what they were for. I would just do a simple zigzag stitch but it never sewed over the edge, I would have to trim the excess. Today I learned something from you, thank you for sharing this video was very useful for me
Thank you for an excellent video. My friends have been trying to get me to start making my own clothes because they tell me that my Mom was a professional seamstress and she would have loved a Serger and I shouldn't have given up sewing for myself. When I was younger I was a clothes horse and all of my closet full of clothes advertised my Mother's skills and I pretended I played a very little part in sewing as I didn't want my friends asking me to make clothes for them. I am no longer a clothes horse and don't want to become one again as I am content with my off the rack wardrobe. While I know my Mother would have loved a Serger I am more interested in making household items like drapes and blinds and valances as I get easily bored looking at the same thing season after season so I have set about making a second set of everything in the rooms I spend most of my time in. By not buying a Serger prematurely I can go for a third season or other decorative products for my home. Your video allows me some breathing room because all I need to do is buy 2 presser feet and I am golden because I can do away with my standard zigzag stitch that they all hate. I'm the only one that sees it as my partner only takes a month or two to notice that something in the room has changed. It is not time yet to start making baby clothes as the kids aren't ready and won't be for at least 2 years. This gives me time to finish my projects and help decorate their new house and keep an eye out for a good used Serger so I can easily sew children's stretchy fabrics when they have arrived. Thanks again.
Wow..that is very detailed explanation, I wish I could see this video when I first learnt sewing.. I broke my first needle within 20 mins after I opened the box...
I think I ce commented on one TouTube video before? But I watched your video a few days ago and your voice was so soothing. Everyone has those moments sewing where they want to chuck their machine out the door, so thank you for teaching with such calm and reassurance:)
The best sewing tool I can recommend. amzn.to/2Ar09s0
your toaster looks like a face with a moustache. Or boobs... But really I see a robot head that somebody drew a moustache on with a marker
WOW! Great video!!! I have these feet with a different brand of sewing machine and really wasn't sure how to use them. Thanks so much!
😂😂😂
Leave it to the brotha to explain how the brother works! I love it.
Haha, thanks for watching.
Yeah because white people eat pop tarts
I luv it👍🏾

I love it! LOL and did a fantastic job showing what he explained!
Awesome info on feet!
It is SO NICE to see a man sewing, or at the very least, seeing a man demonstrate sewing techniques. Three cheers!!

I thought those were just weird embroidery stiches, and what a relief to know what I already have can do the job so no more money needed. Subscribed, and I wish you well!
Amazing step-by-step guide! Best tutorial on this method from beginning to end. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher 👏
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Thank you for making this look sooooo easy.
I'm always excited when I can help someone new if you have any questions feel free to ask, thanks for watching and have fun sewing
Thank you so much I’m a new 🧵 sewer and got this fabulous machine did not know how to use your video is so much easier to learn from.
I appreciate you for watching and if you ever have any questions feel free to ask.
Hey buddy, don’t know if anyone ever says thank you for sharing your knowledge, but thank you.
You are a great instructor! Thank you I’ve learned something new😊
Wow, best instructional video I’ve seen in a long time. Well done!
Best visual of how to use the threader.
WOW love this video, I have a brother different model but similar and I have both feet not knowing what they were for. I would just do a simple zigzag stitch but it never sewed over the edge, I would have to trim the excess. Today I learned something from you, thank you for sharing this video was very useful for me
@@arrivagabry thank you for leaving a comment I was glad to give you a tip or two. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! That is an enlightening presentation! Learned more than I came for without any nonsense.
Those edges look good. Thank you for showing us.
I used both the Sewing machine and the Singer Pro Finish, it a choice but thank you for sharing.👌🏾
I’ve learned so much from you!
I Thank you for sharing that with me.
Wow..that is very detailed explanation, I wish I could see this video when I first learnt sewing.. I broke my first needle within 20 mins after I opened the box...
You sir, just changed my life.
I think I ce commented on one TouTube video before? But I watched your video a few days ago and your voice was so soothing. Everyone has those moments sewing where they want to chuck their machine out the door, so thank you for teaching with such calm and reassurance:)
I really appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching again and I can relate with you on having some of those days.
I am so grateful for this video! And thank you for being so detailed and going through step-by-step, it's much appreciated!
Amanda Cooper Thank you for watching and you're welcome.
