For whatever reason that knife just makes me super uncomfortable. It looks rad, it's sharp as hell, and I don't trust my clumsy hands to not vorpal blade myself with it. Excellent work!
You did a sweet job on that knife, man. I appreciate the quote you went over in the vid, that totally sounds like a smart way to roll with the 'happy little accidents' that come with these kinds of projects. Respect bro!
That knife looks fantastic! I’ve said it again and again but this video is an example of why I love this channel! You show how most projects aren’t how you plan them and how sometimes you need to adapt to how the project is going to make it work! Most channels don’t show the struggles and just show the end project. Great vid Jairus and I’d like to see more knives, (I especially love that etching)
Awesome stuff! In the future you can use a magnet to check for heat treat temperature. It looked a little hot, but since you didn't forge it there weren't any stresses in the metal.
Your awesome man! It's good to take breaks from projects, allows new inspiration to occur and helps you not be overwhelmed at same time. Keep at it my dude!
Amazing knife, what could help though in the future is after you temper it, take two pieces of angle iron, and while still hot clamp it between them while it cools. You can also temper it like that as well. Keeps it from warping. Awesome video though, super cool knife. Almost looks like a Japanese carpenters knife.
Wow, That was an incredible journey! x10,000 What a beautiful and inspired project. I adore the entire layout! The etching alone is truly exquisite! If I may say; the Wasp lines were alive, speaking with such incredible passion. The etching looked to me as if it was the profile of the "cerebral cortex", opening or expanding into the creative ether, or the "divine". All wrapped up into such a practical and elegant design. Well Done! I've always loved this channel, as I've seen it pop up from time to time, yet I was surprised to find I had not been a subscriber... Until Now! You've made me a believer :) Very much looking forward to more of your own creative projects. I don't know if it's you're thing to expound upon your personal beliefs / philosophies that you grapple with in your videos, but that was so refreshing just to glimpse into your personal thoughts. It would be phenomenal to hear more of that in your up coming projects, or maybe, a solo video dedicated specifically to the philosophical operation of your mind during the creative prosses? Best of luck and thank you again. It was truly inspiring.
Looks great! I'll say from my own experience forging a few blades and making a few with the cut blank method like this, there was a bit too much grinding without water cooling. Normally when grinding a blade I will cool it as soon as it starts to get even the slight bit warm.
A good way to know if your blade is hot enough to put in the quench is to put a magnet to it, if it doesn't magnetize then it's hot enough. Another trick I've seen is placing some salt at the front of the tube, when the salt begins to melt you should be good since the melting temperature for salt is about the same temp you want to harden a blade.
You really should make more knives. The first one is always a big screw-up, and a learning experience- Its the second, third, and fourth where your ability starts to shine and you can make really awesome things.
First off awesome video, loved how you finished it with that wasp etching, totally should name the blade Stinger considering well its sharp and small like a wasps stinger. Secondly huge thanks for that air brush link, I needed to pick one up for my D&D minis but never wanted a huge air compressor so this is perfect for me
The knife looks great, I love that you went with the swirly etching and I’m surprised by how delicate the knife is. Also, don’t sweat the Mantis Blades.😊
When you were quenching the blade you made a error, you don't have to reheat the blade to fix it because after quenching you have a certain period of time where the blade is still malleable enough that you can bend warps out of it. Also reheating it like you did and quenching it multiple times interduces stress into the blade so when you go to cut something with it it might crack you also should have normalized it which basically is you heat it up and let it air cool 1 to 3 times to relieve the stress that has built up.
honestly it is more your approach to making that is enjoyable don't get me wrong wild and crazy is fantastic but if you want to make it and invest the time in filming it will be a video worth watching
It's an awesome knife but honestly I fine that really small connection between the blade and the tang to be quite unnerving as it looks as though it would easily snap especially if there are any stresses in the metal
That is one nice looking blade! i actually love the shingle grind blades aka chisel grind. Tip practice the grind on some cheap mild steal and on the back side put a very slight hollow grind along the entire flat ground section. I had a tanto bladed knife with that type of slight hollow grind and it was just stupid easy to resharpen. 12k wet dry sand paper a bit of glass and wetted sandpaper lay the blade flat and a few lap strokes on the back side and it was razor sharp again. Those triangular shaped blades are probably one of the best utility blade patterns you can choose. They can be used for every thing from pealing a potato to skinning small game for pelts etc. A friend of mine was a fur trapper and his blades he used for skinning were small triangular blades about 3 inches by 1 at the widest. He could skin a rabbit a muskrat etc in about 5 minutes with those. So think fine detail cutting to basically any thing else. Make your self a nice kydex sheath for that and you will have a knife you will use every single day!
God i hate stock removal. Its absolutely not a substitute for forging one imo. Sure, it works, its faster or whatever, but i feel like theres less soul in the blade. Regardless, aesthetically its nice.
If you grind hard enough to makes sparks after a temper... you’ve ruined your temper and the blade softens. You fucked up, bro. Nice first try. Try again.
For whatever reason that knife just makes me super uncomfortable. It looks rad, it's sharp as hell, and I don't trust my clumsy hands to not vorpal blade myself with it. Excellent work!
I'd somehow accidentally a finger or three
Yea a knife so sharp i will lose my fingers oof .
"A sharp knife is a safe knife" The easier the blade does it's job the safer you actually are
Right so long as you use it right
Snicker snack....
Really enjoyed this, and that knife is gorgeous! This was such a good break from the mantis blades. Great job!
I'm all for small projects like this thrown in amongst big projects, I imagine it's a good way to relieve stress.
That airbrush is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for the recommendation

6:08 spoken like a true craftsman. Love the vids and please, never change man 😂 you're too wholesome for the internet
Nicely done, sir!
Pretty amazing for a first knife, I really like the wasp design and how it relates to the delicacy and sharpness
I'm so glad you got a break and we got to see more of you. I love the knife.
14:01 Here's another variation: "If at first you don't succeed, redefine success!"
at first when I saw the title I thought this might be you getting advice from Alec Steele....still a great vid
Awesome stuff! In the future you can use a magnet to check for heat treat temperature. It looked a little hot, but since you didn't forge it there weren't any stresses in the metal.
I definitely want to see bigger and badder knifes in the future
Your awesome man! It's good to take breaks from projects, allows new inspiration to occur and helps you not be overwhelmed at same time. Keep at it my dude!
Nice! Make more knives cause practice makes perfect!!
I love the knife design! I've personally made a few and it truly sets itself apart.
this is so cool man!! i love seeing you with other ppl
That is a beautiful blade. Bravo 👏
Very nice to see you again. ✌️❤️
That looks wonderful! Great job man
that etching took that knife over the edge, that beast is SEXY!
Beautiful, Very Nice Work
"This is my first knife" - Shows a masterwork.

Beautiful and functional design!
that is a beautiful knife, well done
Wow, That was an incredible journey! x10,000

Beautiful. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful knife, love that you're cutting pages from a uline catalog.

your awesome, cant wait to see the mantis blades.
This video was sick! I'd love to see you do more
As a knife maker you done great

Basically made the knife i thought of recently cept my inspiration was from a japanese wood knife this design is solid
Is an excellent job.....
That's really cool knife. Maybe try a 'tactical scalpel' style knife, it'd prolly be rather helpful in the shop working with little fiddly bits
Super cool different blade unique very nice..
You can test for quenching temperature using a magnet. If the steel is no longer magnetic, it is hot enough to quench.
The knife looks great, I love that you went with the swirly etching and I’m surprised by how delicate the knife is. Also, don’t sweat the Mantis Blades.😊
I would love to see another knife making vid
That turned out great! I think kiridashi is the knife you were trying to compare it to? Super dig the wasp design. That was a lovely touch.
11:29 YOU ALMOST STABBED YOURSELF IN THE FACE!
Hey jairus love ur work man.
that is a cool knife, and damn is that thing sharp.
I actually kind of thought the bevel carrying into the handle looked pretty cool
Wonderful.
Hey Jaris you should watch forged in fire it will help you with making knifes
That's fantastic!
I'd be down to see more stuff like this too, if it's not too much trouble.

Love it!
Good to see a new video! Also, take your time with the Mantis blades 😁
Would love to see you attempt to forge a blade for a project
Rad knife. I'd like to see your take on a folding knife. Perhaps a front flipper or traditional higonokami.
I beleave another name for a single bevel is also a chrizle as well.
Maaan that's super nice! What did you etch the blade with?
That looks like a knife worthy of loki himself
You are fucking awesome man. Love the videos. Like all of them. Long time fan. Keep them coming.
It will kill- forged in fire 🔥
Impressive
Were the mantis blades "quick and dirty" as well?
honestly it is more your approach to making that is enjoyable don't get me wrong wild and crazy is fantastic but if you want to make it and invest the time in filming it will be a video worth watching
It is cool you should make a katana in Edgett like you did a nice
MOAR
You got a coupon code or link to where I can get some of these friends you're always talking about?
Supposedly you can do etchings on blades just by applying mustard and leaving it overnight... if that is true or not I don't know...
It's an awesome knife but honestly I fine that really small connection between the blade and the tang to be quite unnerving as it looks as though it would easily snap especially if there are any stresses in the metal
that would make a nice fillet knife
You have never made a knife but happen to have a legit forge and a 2x72” belt grinder?
It's his friends workshop
My eyes are bekomming to pulsate when i see that
if you make 2 of these knives and insert the axis into the recess, you will get excellent scissors
You should have given it more thickness, almost up to the tip of the blade would have been pretty good and less chance of breaking the tip off.
The word you're looking for is "Kiridashi".
Cold Steel Disapproves with this knife
That would be a rare class item in an rpg
I want that knife
Make more knives!
Oh yeah that's sharp. Bitting through curved paper proves that.
hey your alive.
I'd literally be afraid to drop that thing. And I'm wearing steel-toe boots.
My man has a bluetooth airbrush

Alec steel colab?
It will keel
Next step: Forging a knife?
Not gonna lie i thought the air brush would be expensive but in reality its cheap.
Do ya see that giant hole ya cut out of the middle ? .... that’s where it’s gunna break !!!!
Was I the only maker screaming at his phone?
make a bigger knife, droped point, broken back. kinda like a seax or a very mean bowie
This video got panned super hard, wth
I hope your doing well you seem sad for some reason
Bruh ... FINGER WELL 9000 !!! ..... 🙄
Yo what’s up
Incredibly overdone, in a great way.
If you grind hard enough to makes sparks after a temper... you’ve ruined your temper and the blade softens. You fucked up, bro. Nice first try. Try again.
That's... just completely false.
