  • A playthrough of Acclaim's 1991 license-based platformer for the NES, The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World.
In this playthrough, I collect all of the hidden Krusty collectables, unlocking the final stage and the best ending.
(You can find my video of the Master System version here: • The Simpsons: Bart vs.... )
Bart vs. the World, the direct sequel to The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants ( • The Simpsons: Bart vs.... ), appeared on store shelves a scant eight months after the release of its predecessor.
There are no aliens to thwart this time around. Instead, The Krusty Show hosts an art competition sponsored by Mr. Burns. Bart enters and wins, not knowing that the competition is merely a contrived ruse to lure Bart into situations in which he might easily be murdered by Mr. Burns' relatives.
There are four main levels to work through: you fight Fu Manchu Burns in China, The Abominable Snow Burns at the North Pole, Ramses Burns in Egypt, and Eric von Burns in Hollywood.
The stages are more focused on precision platforming than the item collection of Bart vs. the World, making it feel like a very different game despite the similarities in graphics, sound, and controls. Most areas have you throwing cherry bombs at enemies as you leap between tiny platforms in search of the exit sign. Most of the stages are wide, open areas that encourage exploration, and there are tons of items tucked away in the corners if you care to go looking for them.
The controls feel just as awkward and rigid as they did in Bart vs. the Space Mutants, and the stages are loaded with jumps that require both A and B to be pressed at the exact same time. It can be super frustrating in a couple spots (especially in the first North Pole stage), but for the most part, it works, and it's overall a fair bit easier than the first game was.
The quality of the graphics and sound are about on par with those in Bart vs. the Space Mutants, as well. The backdrops are better detailed, though they tend to be drab and repetitive, and the cutscenes look great. The sound fares about the same - it's better varied, but the drone of the music comes off similarly to the first game's. It was a real shame, though, that it lacks any digitized voice samples.
Between stages, you can take part in minigames for extra lives. Most of them are simple, like a quick game of Concentration or the shell game... and then there are the slider puzzles. I won't go on a rant here, but I will say that there are few things I like less in my video games than slider puzzles.
Overall, The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World feels like a step down from Bart vs. the Space Mutants. The lack of any of the show's humor or personality in the stage design really hurts the overall experience, but the gameplay is solid and the game is still fairly fun. If you liked the original, you'll probably find something to like here, too.
At the very least, I found it much more palatable than I did the sequel, Bartman Meets Radioactive Man ( • The Simpsons: Bartman ... ).
*This video is a replacement for the original recording I had posted. The aspect ratio is now correct and the video quality is better.

It's not as inspired as Bart vs the Space Mutants, but it's not nearly as dull as Bartman Meets Radioactive Man. Bart vs the World is pretty solid, especially for an NES game based on a non-Disney cartoon.

@@TrueSolunar oh okay.see despite the fact the early simpson games were fun for me i always thought it was odd to focus on bart and just Bart and not market the other characters more like lisa in the games.see Bart Simpson was a character that a lot parent groups probably didn't like to much as he was a rotton very poor student and troublemaker concept often in the show.
I liked bart to play as occassionly when I was younger but it was probably bad business for a game company to market such a delinquent concept so excessively in those early games because of concerned adults rather than focus on the entire Simpson family more despite that Bart was somewhat extreme and had 'attitude'. Don't get me wrong the games were still fun anyway.

    • @TrueSolunar
      @TrueSolunar 3 года назад +1

Attitude could be taken in many different ways… Take TMNT and Battletoads, for example… You have kick-ass reptiles and amphibians spouting ‘90s slang and dispensing justice… Classic Sonic was very impatient and equally expressive with his idle animations, combining both in Sonic CD into a Game Over Easter Egg… Bubsy was a failed attempt at this, and just wound up talking nonstop and making bad puns… There are a few mascots that also failed, but I can’t recall their names at this time…

"I just wanted to point out that the game is titled Bart vs. The World, there isn't really a lot in the world. No s**t, right? Just Egypt, China, the North Pole and Hollywood. Pretty f***ing educational, right? When I was 11 years old, my whole world was video games. Just locked in my room playing Bart vs. The Space Mutants and all this crap. Man, I've wasted all my time on this s**t. I want it back. It ruined my life! Bart's my ass and Krusty's my balls. F**k this s**t, now I'm gonna eat my own shorts." Next to the Simpson's Arcade Game, Mr. Burns is the bad guy in this one as well.

There were definitely a lot of problems with these Simpsons NES games. Bart vs the Space Mutants had its charm though. This one is worse.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the arcade game by Konami and The Simpsons Game are the best games based on this franchise IMO. Couldn't get into the NES games; the GB/C games are okay, but nothing special I'd say.

Not wanting to quote AVGN, but what has this game to do with the world.
We only see, China, Egypt, the North Pole and Hollywood.
Plus all the villains are relatives of mr burns. So they could’ve called it Bart vs Burns and co.
