You don’t have to frame it in like I did, you could get away with screwing the frame through the drywall. Then you just have holes to fill. That said it definitely wouldn’t be able to hold as much weight
Another awesome build. I just splurged and back a track saw too, so thanks on showing a cool build using that tool. Question - did you purchase the MDF and apply the veneer yourself? Or can you purchase them that way?
The track saw is on of my most used tools. There awesome to have. For the mdf it comes ready to go and most wood suppliers usually have different wood types and different thicknesses. If it’s available to you I would go with ply veneer over mdf. It’s a lot nicer to work with.
A very sturdy build. It upsets my eye though that the grain direction doesn't work for the ends. Needs to be endgrain. It conflicts. It would bother me every time i walk in the room.
The grain wraps around the whole shelf. It flows down from the top down the sides and down the front. The only place it doesn't meet up is from the front to sides. Its actually really satisfying to look at.
I wish I could find a local source for white oak veneered sheets.. love the look of it, hate the price for solid boards. Did you buy your MDF sheet online or local?
Locally kinda. They don't stock out where I live so I have about an hour drive to a Windsor plywood that stock it. You may get lucky asking some cabinet shapes to order you a couple of sheets in. Ive done that in the past.
absolutely beautiful work and exactly whatvi was looking for but for God sake please put an approved mask to cut MDF. Look into the health dangers of it and take safety precautions.
It turned out really nice, but I don't think it needed to be that strong unless a TV was going to be placed on it. Seems like an awful lot of work and risk otherwise.
Why go through so much to build such a sturdy shelf that doesn't hold anything? What will ever sit there that will need that degree of reinforcement? It's a neat build but I have floating shelves that are strong and weren't built that way.
But why is your house so empty? Surely you have no need for a shelf, floating or otherwise, if you have no things to put on it...not even the TV! Dont get me wrong, its rather impressive but I would have said "I made this plank of oak float under my TV" haha
@@joshn1678 agreed, it is the perfect spot for placing such things as a sound bar, also would be a prime spot for the homing of remote controls to stop them wandering aimlessly around the room and causing havoc behind cushions or under coffee tables. But my point was, there are no such items in evidence here, in fact there is a distint lack of any of the usual detritus that piles up unbidden in your average abode, not a sound bar, no dvds, not a scrap of media related items; nor are there any scatter cushions for rioting remotes to gather behind, no coffee tables for wallets, keys or phones to linger under, not a vase or a comedy mug, not a single quirky piece of objet d'art or collectable, not even a clock! This isnt a home its a show house and nobody with any shred of personality or identity lives within these walls, no matter how good they are at putting up shelves in such a manner ae to hide the brackets holding it to the wall!! I think they need to spend more time expressing themselves in some creative way and less time doing snazzy DIY. Life is just too short empty shelves, clutter it up a bit, minimalism is no way to relax and just enjoy whats on the tv...well, coz you know there is a really good documentary on about painting things magnolia. YAWN!!!
Looks great! But is it a tad over-engineered? Not a ton of load on that thing. Wouldn't a french cleat design have provided a similar result?
God, I'd pay for one of these in a second, so beautiful, exactly what I need to put my sound bar below my TV and hide cables and whatnot. So amazing.
Bruh you know those bolts were an overkill ahahaha! Nice work as always!
4:58. ur boy looks so kind and loyal
He is
well done
Thanks
You could hang a motorcycle on that floating shelve bro 😂
Very overkill - or maybe not, spiderman may use that strength for something
He likes to climb.
Amazing👍👍👍💪💪....from indonesia......spiderman junior so sweet
Nice! I was glad to see this video, I've been planning a similar project so it's great to have a good reference. Your shelf turned out awesome!
Thanks dude, glad you found it helpful 🤙
Need to build a box beam mantle for a renovation, great explanation of the process, thanks. Found the video lurking on DIY Reddit
Your welcome dude, thanks for checking it out
🙋♀🧡💜💙gracias esta hermoso tu hijito
Amazing work, but I definitely can't do this build in a rental lol

Great work! This is going to help me when we do a similar mantel.
Thanks buddy
Super Rad!!! And of course SpiderMan proofed! 😂
👍🏽 great job man. Love your content and style, as I’ve mentioned before.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Emanuel, I appreciate it

@@RadDadBuilds Thanks for the extra tips. Tell Spiderman he killed it.

Could we give this the same clean finish using straight cut and screws to the side and edges and fill and send instead of doing the angle cuts?..
If it's a veneered wood, you'd have cover the exposed core made from your cut

Really nice, also as always great music selection. You have a spotify playlist?
Thank you. all my music is on epidemic sound. Ill create a playlist link in my next video.
Nit picky, sorry. They are carriage bolts. Nicely done.
Holy shit, you know Spiderman?!
Haha yea, he makes an appearance around here fairly often
Spider Man is a lot shorter than he looks in those movies.
That thing will def be stiff. No need to knock down the sheetrock 2*4 across would have done it as well
Marvels Spider-Kid

Love the design but all that re-enforcement and then using miter joints is a head scratcher.
I know thats not the real spiderman.
ssshhhhhh

But take out drywall and fix it , make lot of work , why just build a frame, and mail to studs .
Why do so many content creators think 70's porno music is a great addition to a video?

Lol no one sleeps on it. Over engineering. Looks good anyway!

Can put anything on it, a sound bar, media stuff, tons of stuff for a shelf under a TV.

Why tho?
Because it looks Gucci AF
6 seconds in was too cringe for me and I left.
