Hi-Been sewing over 50 yrs and only sewing the two long sides of the slip pocket is one of the Best. Tips. Ever. Makes it seeeeew easy achieve a wrinkless frame. TY Lauren & Nicole
So many brilliant things about this sweet little bag. The zipper panel, the Lauren tricks - but my favorite is that you designed the lining to be smaller for a better fit. Simple, brilliant and beautiful. Thank you.
Love this mini tote! I love working with cork and just made your Triskele Wallet after watching the tutorial of it with you and Lauren. It came out beautiful along with edge coating. Now on to making this adorable tote to match my wallet. Thank you for the great tutorials.
The ironing of the slip pocket is great - suggestion from someone who has been sewing for 40 years and has taught many a class about ironing vs pressing - Steam - you need steam to set the seams- a bit will also help the fabric relax into the shape you want and hold so when we add our zipper it will be perfect. Just a suggestion that I use. Great bag and love the pattern!
Very cute bag. Just what I have been looking for...not too big, not too small.....just the right size. Thanks for the excellent video. I learned several new techniques.
I’ve just completed this project and I’m really pleased with the results. I love your style of teaching, no fancy editing just follow along with you. The bonus for me is I don’t have to keep rewinding I just pause so I can catch up occasionally! I’m going to tackle some other projects now! I’m a 64yo guy in the Uk and my partner is going to love this bag for Christmas- thank you!
Just finished my first one! Made it in cork and your amazing video and pattern were a breeze to follow, so happy my new VEGAN bag. 😍. A friend likes it so much that I have to make her one. Thank you!
This was a really fun make. I made one in vinyl and another in cork. The way you box the corners is brilliant! (I know, thank you, Lauren) Everything just lines up perfectly! Thank you for the pattern.
Love Love Love your videos... I am super finicky about details..and I am glad you are soooo precise ..it makes me confident and can't wait to make it...
Wow... OK I had said I wasn't going to buy any more patterns .... but .... just 1 more .... I've just bought a lot of cork as I think I'm addicted to sewing with it... your tutorials are amazing and very helpful... thank you from a rather wet n windy West wales in the UK... 👍😁❤
Thank you so much for the time and effort in making this video. I also enjoy the kitty and puppy and all the good vibes. I love the pattern and have been trying to figure out how to do a free edge cork or vinyl with a cotton lining. You have so many great tips too that are so useful and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you.
Thanks so much for this tutorial, Nicole. I made one and I love it! I had been worried about working with cork, but you gave me the confidence and know-how to do it. Now I'm addicted to cork fabric ;-) Next up: a tall Taisteal Tote. I love your patterns. Keep 'em coming :-)
As a newb to making bags, I certainly appreciate your tutorial. Very appropriately paced and easy to understand. So much so that I purchased my second pattern from ya. 😉 It doesn't feel intimidating at all! Thanks so much for a great pattern!
Thanks for the excellent instructional video! I just made my first and it will not be the last. I chose to use interfaced fabric for my zip panel, not thinking about raw edges at the top. I decided on adding a matching bias tape on the liner and it turned out beautifully. I have never made a drop in lining that fit so perfectly, I am shocked. My strong dislike for drop in lining is why it took me so long to make it. I wish I could upload a picture for you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the pattern! I grade all of my likings to fit inside the exterior, I can’t stand a saggy lining! You can join my Facebook group and post pics, link in description box!
Top notch instructions! Clear and easy to follow. Love your work! The only thing I am not sure about is what is going on with the ends of the zipper tape? Is it supposed to be hanging out like that? There is a lot of work that goes into these. I wonder do you sell your finished pieces? And if so, where? Looking forward to ordering a pattern.
I attach a zipper end cap to my loose end of the zipper and let it hang into the back once it’s completed. I do sell my completed bags, I have lots in stock but they’re not listed on my site. You can email me and I’ll send photos of what I have sewgnarly@gmail.com
LOVED the video, you made it seem very simple and now I'm not so worried, the way you explained the strap was more simple and informative than anyone else. I hope to see more videos, maybe you'll make that mini ncw you mentioned in the big ones video ;)
Just came across your tutorial. Your demonstration of boxing the corners is magical. Thanks for sharing. What is the glue that you are using. Thanks again.
I loved making this bag! Thanks for the great pattern. I have not found where you show or tell us how to finish the ends of the zippers though. Can you please explain what to do here please?
In this video I used a zipper that didn’t need to be finished as it came ready to go, but you can use zipper cap ends to finish any zipper (which is what I use on my zipper by the yard zippers).
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised! The thickest seam it has is the strap anchor to the lining and exterior, however if you go slow or even handcrank over those sections I think you’ll be just fine!
Just watched your Mini Tote video and have learned at least 10 new things. Thank you so much. Question: Do you do everything (except initial cutting, I am guessing) sitting down? Except for actual sewing, I am always on my feet and it can get exhausting. Maybe I need to rework my sewing area.
Generally yes, I’m a sitter. My new cutting table will be 43” tall though so I’m about to be on my feet more! And I’m so glad you learned some stuff from watching my video!
Love your bag very professionally done. Thank you for sharing. I am very new to bag making can I ask you what material did you use outside. Mainly the purple one. Is it a vinyl? Or a faux leather?
GM! Just purchased your pattern for this crossbody bag. Love your very detailed tutorial! One question pls: how do I adapt the pattern to use cotton canvas for the bag body? (I still use cork for the bag bottom.) Instead of the raw top edge? Thanks! 🤗
The pattern is written for raw edge material so adapting it for materials that will fray would take some imagination. I suppose you could try to fold over and iron a seam on the canvas and then slide the lining inside and carry on as normal.
SewGnar Thank you! Exactly! If I fold over an extra inch of fabric on the exterior panel when cutting it, and then follow the original finishing with a Topstitch finish, that should work. 👍🏻 Love your tutorial! 🤗
Absolutely love this bag. I want to make exactly as you did but cannot find a zipper in that color. Would you mind sharing where the zipper was purchased? Thank you !

@@SewGnar Awesome! the only problem is I am old and not very familiar with RUclips and can't find the Description Box!!!!!! so there, I admitted it! can you help me do that please?! haha
Never know until you try! With the top edges being the same textile it makes it easier to sew. I also created the lining pattern pieces to fit inside the exterior nicely so in the scheme of drop in linings it’s should be relatively easy compared to most!
@@SewGnar did you put interfacing on the lining fabric? What type of zipper did you use, was it a purse zipper? I know the bottom of the purse was cork what was the top.
@@burnettnewton4584 yes I interfaced the lining with probably Pellon 808, and that was a metal tooth zipper from Zit It Zippers and I think it could be considered either type (purse or jacket). The top is also cork, its dyed purple.
I am cutting down a 14 inch zipper for this project. I presume I will use zipper tabs to help. Do you suggest cork or fabric for the tabs? And what should be the actual length that I cut my zipper?

Hmm it’s been a long time since I made this bag and now I use zipper by the yard… I used to get all my zippers from ZipIt so maybe try them out!

I like to use a Brayer or roller to press open cork seams
I have a stick tool I just never use it! I think the roller would be super helpful tho.
SewGnar I use stick with canvas, but roller is great for cork
I use a roller from Dritz..bought it for quilting...it is smaller than my brayer and it is easier to apply more presser
