Wants fresh music, stage song literally starts to laugh. There was also a heartbeat used as an instrument in stage 6. ZUN's creative with stage themes, not so much with boss themes. The big advantage of auto scrolling shooters is you can match music to gameplay because you know what's taking place at all times. A recent shmup called Cotton Rock n Roll even puts the Bosses on timers so it can do it for boss themes too. Though he probably did get a little less experimental after 13. But people complained about 13 and ot had a really fresh feeling soundtrack. (Though they were almost certainly complaining about gameplay)
While I am focusing on playing thru the windows games right now, I’m sure it would be interesting to check out the pc-98 era after I’m done. So I’ll keep it in mind! (I’ve only got like 4 more windows games to go too, shouldn’t take too long.)
