Dreamworks Animation just premiered their new Kung Fu Panda 4 Trailer & today we're continuing our Madagascar adventure with the PENGUINS movie!! Right after the events of Europe's Most Wanted, Skipper (Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Chris Miller), Rico (Conrad Vernon), and Private (Christopher Knights) strike out on their own leading to an uneasy alliance with The North Wind - Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) as Classified, Annet Mahendru (The Walking Dead: World Beyond) as Eva, Peter Stormare (Fargo) as Corporal, and Ken Jeong (The Hangover) as Short Fuse - taking us on a globetrotting action comedy spy adventure as they attempt to thwart John Malkovich's Dave aka Dr. David Brine & his plan to turn all penguins into hulking monsters... and we even get a Werner Herzog cameo!! Fun Fact : The penguins were originally supposed to be The Beatles-like rock quartet but the director changed his mind and made the penguins from musicians to military spy commandos. Couldn't imagine them as rock musicians, they're better as military spy commandos
So Rico was Ringo, huh... Makes sense.
I love how Tara calls Private "little Moxie." It's cute. This movie is hilarious. I especially love the gag, that the commands Dave gives to his minions, combined with their names form celebrity names. Dave overall is a really funny villain, and the Penguins are as loveable as ever, especially Private, who had a pretty good arc.
I still can't believe John Malkovich voiced him
The running gag of skipper getting Dave’s name wrong, even calling him “Rodriguez?” at one point, is probably my favorite bit 😄
Benedict Cumberbatch mispronouncing the word "Penguin" will never get old and it's absolutely hilarious that he still brought that to this movie and the directors just went with it 😂😂
Poor sod learned about it after he'd recorded this and I remember watching it and being like "aww..it was every time as well..." 🤣🤣🤣

You know a character is so iconic and the best part of the movie when they got their own spin off movie. I'm sad that it didn't do well at the box office unlike the previous three Madagascar movie especially the third one which grossed over $745 million which is quite surprising but nevertheless, I enjoyed this movie for what it is (I'm a huge fan of the Nickelodeon TV show too so I knew exactly what I got from this movie) and it's nice to see that Private gets the most spotlight in the story

I get the feeling that Tara and John would love the movie "robots". It's got the right amount of adult-ish humor and innuendos all while being wonderfully animated with a decent sound track.

Like they're joking but taking that joke seriously I love it haha.

Where the doc crew pushes the penguins off the cliff is a reference to an old Disney Documentary where the crew did something like that aswell
I really love how both the Northwind and the Penguins are absolutely capable. However, the Northwind is really professional and down to earth, while the Penguins have more cartoony logic and out of the box thinking. Both works, but it's the clashing of the two (and the movie actually pulling it off) that makes it entertaining to watch. But at the same time, it's what makes the Northwind intervening so staggering. They're basically pulling the breaks on the fun and do a 180 into 'serious' territory. Their introductory scene therefore also makes the penguins look incapable, because we are in the Northwind's base and we see the contrast in tone from their side. (Because that's their view of them, cute and cuddly and helpless prey animals, compared to the 'strong predators that now act as protectors'). But on the other hand, you have the penguins basically throwing every wrench into their plan. Either by already having done some of the steps or doing their own thing.

How funny would it have been if it actually was David Attenborough doing the voiceover in the beginning? I'll tell you, It would have been very funny! I hope they at least approached him about it. Um, we swedes don't sound like Corporal when we speak english, do we? No, I am pretty sure that we don't 🤪 And we don't sound like the swedish chef either. Well, I guess Corporals' VA Peter Stormare, who is swedish, was making fun of the stereotype. He didn't play a swede in Jurassic Park 2 for some reason, he played a german, who funnily enough cursed in swedish. 😁 this movie is funny as heck. It kinda makes sense, that out of all of the Madagascar characters, the penguins got their own spinoff series (I actually wrote that before you said it in the review, I promise). I think DreamWorks might be my favorite animation studio, since they are behind a couple of my favorite movie franchises, regardless of genre, animated or not. Oh, by the way, you'd think that Rico doesn't want to turn back to normal, he finally achieved every penguins' biggest dream, he can fly!

I thought it's interesting that the "give them a shove" is echoing how Lemmings jumping to their death in an old documentary was faked by a documentary crew pushing Lemmings off a cliff

If this is the end of the Madagascar franchise. If so a similar but different recommendation is Over The Hedge another great animated animals movie

It does well to put more focus on delivering a plethora of jokes, imitations, zippy repartee, and sight gags than its plot's familiar machinations.
