It seems that a lot of people worry about finding glasses for your face shape. But in fact, glasses and face shape do not play a huge role in finding the best eyeglasses for you. However, it is an easy way to start.
When it comes to the best glasses for face shape, the key is to select glasses that have the opposite features to your face shape. So if you are looking for glasses for a round face, finding eyeglasses that have more angles and a boxy style appearance will work better. While if you are looking for glasses for a square face, round glasses or something with a round shape will better compliment your facial features.
If you are looking for glasses for an oval face, thankfully almost any glasses frame should work.

*PRO TIP*
No matter where you buy your glasses it is always best to have them professionally adjusted to improve their fit and comfort. It will help you see better too.
If you are looking to purchase online glasses, it is important to continue seeing your eye doctor yearly for eye health evaluations. Although you may be seeing well, many eye diseases may creep up without affecting your eyesight until it's too late.

Can you please do another video on Abbe value and lens materials? I went to a new eye clinic and picked CR39 with anti-reflective coating on both sides, they're really nice glasses. I'm not a fan of polycarbonate. The lens material makes a huge difference.
Hey Dr, can you do a video on broken eye capillaries? Why do some people get them so frequently?
How do Eye Doctors get their eye exam done? Do they typically just have another doctor in the office do their exam?
at this time of corona, many of covid survivor are facing issue of "MUCORMYCOSIS" but because of lack of knowledge about its symptoms, how it feels, how it looks like and how to differentiate between bacterial and fungus infection people have no choice but to make the situation worse. Eye care and tips are so needed. The eyes and teeth seem most neglected from medical insurance. Thanks for all the videos. It sure helps me to advocate for myself.

Good information for my next glasses, thank you Dr. Allan🙏
really great one Mr Tom, you might want to check my end for glasses...
I'm watching this after buying my glasses online, and you literally nailed almost all the problems that I have with these new frames because I did the opposite. Wow, someone who actually knows what they're talking about, thanks for the tips - it is seriously helpful. I just got a refund and ordered ones that I'm sure will fit well now.
I'm so glad this helped! Hope the new ones are better :)
yeah plus he is just not boring he is sympatic
@@martinmaclovsky5525, the word 'sympatic' doesn't work in English the same way 'sympaticky' works in Czech. In English, you'd say he is 'nice'. 😊 That he sure is! 😊
The facial width and nose bridge shape are very important points and especially for people with very large or very small skulls this can mean the difference between a pair of glasses that fit and a pair of glasses that don't fit. The other major factor in latitudes with temperature extremes like the Northern US is metal frames expand and contract with temperature. This can cause most metal glasses to need adjustment to account for the change in size of the metal frames.
Wow these are great points! I have honestly never considered temp before (other than leaving them in the car)
Hey I'm new In the lenses world . I'm 41 years and for the last 3 years my eye fition it's being off . Well finally i got prescription. And omg the process , well i need help with online prices and weight brand's ect . Please if you read it help out a old man
Yeah, it depends on the glasses (being Asian), but I need nose pads! Unfortunately, that cuts down the options of glasses in half! 😅
I had no idea, never even noticed there were numbers on the frames. Thanks for the advice!
I should've watched this before buying smh

Thanks for your channel. Every time I tune in I learn something and enjoy.
This is the best guide I've seen to help with choosing proper fitting frames. Well done. Thank you! 😎
I had no idea what the numbers on the frame stem meant, now I do! Thanks for a great video!
You're welcome! thanks for the comment!
Same here.
Thanks
I just recently learned about these numbers myself. It was never really important to know what they meant in the past because when trying on glasses in person I can instantly tell what looks good and what doesn’t. Now that I have started buying glasses online however the numbers have become VERY important and this is because you have no way to know what size the frames are in relation to your face without these numbers. Of course it still doesn’t help much if they don’t have your size. My face is very narrow at the temples which means I look best in small frames but nearly all the frames you find online these days are medium to large which really limits my choices. By the way, what he said about adding the numbers together to get the overall width of the frames obviously does not work with wraparound sunglasses. For example, 62mm wide lenses on wraparounds might work out to the same overall frame width as a regular pair of glasses with 52mm lenses.
He's such a nice man I could watch his videos all day.
Thank you so much! This is super helpful for an aspiring eye doctor!!!
Dr. Allen’s got such an admirable 3D-chiseled jaw it diverts attention from frames, almost. Awesome tips. Always.

To discover your facial shape, stand in front of the mirror & draw the outline carefully with a bar of soap or lipstick/gloss.

And then what?
At last! So glad to get the size measurements explained. I've always depended on the dispensing agent to do this for me and sometimes it's a real disappointment but I didn't know how to explain the problem.
really great idea Akeleven, you might want to check my end for glasses... tips my team and I will take this your comment into consideration

I am glad I found your channel. I have an eye appointment mid May. I have been lucky with excellent vision for most of my life. Then Mid 50's happened. I must be Presbyopic now. I am considering contacts now thanks to your channel. I also am gonna get glasses. This video helped a lot!
People who work in eyeglass shops know none of this helpful advice.
Great video ! Something that everyone wants to know, especially with all of the glasses options nowadays !
You make very nice videos haha I appreciate the excellence🙏🏻
Your oratary skills and gestures are very good.
Excellent tips thank you!
Great information!!! I will use it when I buy my next pair of glasses. Thank you so much!!!👌😊
I’m watching this the day AFTER I chose my next pair of glasses. I’ve been wearing them for 13 years and can happily say I already do what you recommend.
Also, I have only just found your channel and love it! Subscribed for sure. Very helpful information as I genuinely sometimes have no clue what my optometrist is talking about. Thank you!
Oh wow Nelly! Thank you so much! So happy you found the channel and happy to have you here. Let me know if you have any other specific questions I can help with.
@@DoctorEyeHealth I actually do have a question! Though I have new glasses arriving shortly, I’d still like to know how do I properly clean my glasses at home? Mostly, I’m talking about around the lenses as this is where there is so much gunk: oil, dead skin etc! 🤢
Due to lockdown here in England my opticians have only been seeing those with urgent needs and therefore I couldn’t go in to have them done. I also forgot to ask when I went in for my test yesterday. It is so bad but I became desperate and took a hair clip to try and scrape the edges however, it’s still bad, agitating me knowing I’m putting on dirty glasses. I know if I continue to try and do this I will just scratch the glasses. Is there any special tools that I can buy or tips at home I can try? Thank you
Also watching AFTER buying my glasses 😂😂

Wow I was about to order my new glasses but wasn't sure if they would look good on me. And then this vid popped up on my feed 😂
Hey look at that!!! I hope it helped!
Thanks! I'm getting to that point where reading and computer glasses don't cut it so I'm looking an getting progressives. This is the first time I'm seriously looking for them.
That is TRUE I was having difficult . You have made it so easy for me
*Your hair is brilliantly beautiful!*
Doc. You're the best. I've never been fortunate enough, at least in the last fifty years to have any optician or opthmalogist to explain everything. They are always just selling a product and going on to the next sale. I appreciate your explaining all things optical!
Thanks doc, very helpful
It's hard to tell what shape my face is because of how intricate our skulls are designed, but when I really focused the other day I seem to be somewhere around the square/rectangle side. I didn't know what I was doing at the eye doctor but I really liked the circle framed glasses on me. Luckily I ended up being correct
i fell in love with this man

sir u r doing really great work. Thanks !
Please do a video on contrast differences, I have a lazy eye 33yo and I'm noticing major contrast between my eyes which is gotten worse in the last 3 years. I'd like to learn more about what is going on here.
I must start by saying I love your videos, they have helped me so much!
Now for my comment. I have never seen glasses that are wide enough for my temple width. Either stores don't carry them (which is generally the case) or they don't exist. The ones that I have seen online that do exist are, well, butt ugly. I usually try and find glasses that are wide and then have them altered at the store.
So this is a funny name but to the point, have you seen this company or any of their affiliate companies? fatheadz.com/
Your videos are really helpful for my eye care 😘
Thanks really helpful especially now to measure and gauge glasses and face structure. Personally find ordering online far inferior to optometrist in person but Covid and health concerns have forced the issue somewhat
Helpful video. Thank you
Omg , I need new glasses and I am going to drive my optometrist nuts with this information! It has always been pick some frames, all alone in the woods
YES! Looking to purchase a blue light glasses for classes so I've been waiting for these kind of content😅❤
Don’t buy any blue light glasses!!! Gonna be a waste of money!! I bought one but I am not wearing it anymore, cuz all is business!!!
Are there any Blue light Glasses brands that you are looking at? There are a lot of brands out there and many may not be that helpful. please let me know if I can help.
What do you think of Gamer Advantage, doc? I'm looking for clear lenses with all-day comfort wear frames😅 Accurate color is needed in my course
Amazing video, it's so jam-packed with information. I found out easily the glasses would be looking for. Did you ever do anything with color?

You put into words here why I've always avoided the frames that sit directly on my nose! I do not have a prominent nose ridge, and those type of frames always annoyed the crap out of me!
Yes! Glad I was able to help haha
Hi I just got a pair like that , I forgot that 10 years ago I couldn’t get them comfortable , I’m going to have to scrap them and get more
As someone with a round face, square glasses definitely don't fit me. I've been wearing these for like 6 years but then I tried round glasses and man it makes me look way better! Thanks for this video though my case is just an exception :)
high quality very informative
so helpful, thanks
great video , thank you
Hi Dr. Allen! You should do a video about your glasses collection.
Hahaha I probably should! I need to buy more holders/cases for all of them....(mostly sunglasses)
Thank you so much!
Thanks for informative video
Interesting about the nose. My first glasses were standard Navy issue, black frame, 'Ernie Kovax' glasses. I had a dark mustache, and with my Roman nose, I looked like I was wearing novelty shop, Groucho Marx false nose and glasses.
In your lenses video can you talk about high + prescriptions and choosing frames to decrease the distortion and thickness? People usually always talk about nearsightedness. It so hard to pick frames when everything ‘in style’ makes me look like I have coke bottles for lenses.
OMG yes! I recently just spoke to my own mother about this! COMING SOON! Thanks Haley!
@@DoctorEyeHealth Thank-you!! My prescription is +8 and people let me walk out with terrible frames every time lol. I’ve been trying to educate myself
I am a -7.5. But I just picked up my glasses yesterday and although I liked the frame it still looks thick even choosing a thick frame to hide it and 1.67 index progressive.
yes...high plus prescriptions and tips are always neglected and under discussed. I am not sure why the myopia population get 90 percent of the attention. If I had a choice at my conception between myopia or hyperopia I would have likely chose myopia ...small eyes are so much better than heavy frames and lenses that give u huge gigantic bug eyes!
nice idea Haley, you might want to check my end for glasses... tips my team and I will take this your comment into consideration

Hey Doc, can you please review the scouts contacts lenses plss
I appreciate the short video as it helps to reduce eye strain, haha
I have oval face and I tried different shapes and my favorite is cat eye frame..
I have nose pads on my glasses but they still hit my cheeks cause still got my baby fat, also I think it’s my preference but I have a pretty round face but I still enjoy the look of oversized rounder glasses. This is still a good guide, it all come down to preferences anyway.

Thank you so much, Dr Allen ! What a pity I can't get your vids in FRENCH... Can you do something to help us in France ? Translating, maybe ? Bye !
Please make a video in how the frame should be bent to your face
Hi Doc, love your helpful and well-informed advice. I'm in my 80's and have been wearing progressives for the last 50 years. Price is now a big factor for me, so I'm planning to try some online purchasing. I'd already decided to buy some frames separately to test their fit etc. The online outfit says I can do this. But after watching this video it occurred to me that I might also be able to buy the progressive lenses, too, and get the assembly done here in NZ. Thoughts?
One other tip...if you use trifold, you need big enough lenses to accommodate all 3 levels of vision. I liked smaller frames but as I age I use my reading focus more and the bigger lens accommodates this full 3 levels of vision range better.
*Trifold: Verifocals, or progressive lenses.
Very helpful
thanks, I found it helpful 👌
