Can you please do another video on Abbe value and lens materials? I went to a new eye clinic and picked CR39 with anti-reflective coating on both sides, they're really nice glasses. I'm not a fan of polycarbonate. The lens material makes a huge difference.

at this time of corona, many of covid survivor are facing issue of "MUCORMYCOSIS" but because of lack of knowledge about its symptoms, how it feels, how it looks like and how to differentiate between bacterial and fungus infection people have no choice but to make the situation worse. The facial width and nose bridge shape are very important points and especially for people with very large or very small skulls this can mean the difference between a pair of glasses that fit and a pair of glasses that don't fit. The other major factor in latitudes with temperature extremes like the Northern US is metal frames expand and contract with temperature. This can cause most metal glasses to need adjustment to account for the change in size of the metal frames.

I just recently learned about these numbers myself. It was never really important to know what they meant in the past because when trying on glasses in person I can instantly tell what looks good and what doesn’t. Now that I have started buying glasses online however the numbers have become VERY important and this is because you have no way to know what size the frames are in relation to your face without these numbers. Of course it still doesn’t help much if they don’t have your size. My face is very narrow at the temples which means I look best in small frames but nearly all the frames you find online these days are medium to large which really limits my choices. By the way, what he said about adding the numbers together to get the overall width of the frames obviously does not work with wraparound sunglasses. For example, 62mm wide lenses on wraparounds might work out to the same overall frame width as a regular pair of glasses with 52mm lenses.

@@DoctorEyeHealth I actually do have a question! Though I have new glasses arriving shortly, I’d still like to know how do I properly clean my glasses at home? Mostly, I’m talking about around the lenses as this is where there is so much gunk: oil, dead skin etc! 🤢
Due to lockdown here in England my opticians have only been seeing those with urgent needs and therefore I couldn’t go in to have them done. I also forgot to ask when I went in for my test yesterday. I just got glasses today(Actually two years ago I did but I never wore them because of the nose pads. I think they stick out too far from my face and I could see outside of my glasses just as much as I saw through them and it made me nauseous), and contacts last week. You helped me put my contacts in, and take them out. Well I pinch they out with two index fingers, can't do it with just one hand for some reason, lol. But when I picked out my glasses last week, the office I went to just left me alone to pick out what I wanted. They are super comfortable and I liked them until my wife said she thought it was weird that my eyebrows on inside the frame and can't be seen over them. She says they look good but after mentioning that, that's all I can think of now. lol
I think my nose bridge must be wide and glasses don't sit down on them enough or something. So is that weird for my eyebrows to not be above my glasses?
If one of my eyes didn't have an astigmatism I would love to just wear the transition lenses you had in one of your videos, coolest thing I've seen.

I've always followed the opticians practices advice on specs shapes, being as blind as a bat. The last time, my budget and time was short, I selected the 2nd pair shown as I liked the colour, it was in my price range and felt comfortable, a big old plastic pair. Hallelujah, it's the one that suits me best, over all the pairs of the last 40 years and is soooo comfortable. So much so, I'm finding myself wearing them every day, instead of my scleral lenses, which give me far better vision🙈🙈No more indentations on my nose from nosepads pressing into it, no more pushing my specs up my nose continually, no more heating the arms in boiling water to make them fit better, not one optometrist addressed the comfort factor over all these years. I've lost my faith in them after my last one recommended a surgical procedure costing 100k, operating on the lens at the back of my eyes, when the problem is in the front, would have been a total waste of time and money!

Hi Doc, love your helpful and well-informed advice. I'm in my 80's and have been wearing progressives for the last 50 years. Price is now a big factor for me, so I'm planning to try some online purchasing. I'd already decided to buy some frames separately to test their fit etc. The online outfit says I can do this. But after watching this video it occurred to me that I might also be able to buy the progressive lenses, too, and get the assembly done here in NZ. Thoughts?

Interesting about the nose. My first glasses were standard Navy issue, black frame, 'Ernie Kovax' glasses. I had a dark mustache, and with my Roman nose, I looked like I was wearing novelty shop, Groucho Marx false nose and glasses.

Another tip I forgot… make sure the glasses fit well in the length of side arm things of glasses and that they’re not too wide so they won’t fall off your head when tilting your head forward… try them on your head at the store and tilt your head a few times to ensure they don’t slide off your head.

It's hard to tell what shape my face is because of how intricate our skulls are designed, but when I really focused the other day I seem to be somewhere around the square/rectangle side. I didn't know what I was doing at the eye doctor but I really liked the circle framed glasses on me. Luckily I ended up being correct

Which would I look better in?...

    OR
2). Rectangular/Square glasses with tall lenses

Tip to also consider…. The little nose clippy things get caught in hair and rip your hair out if you often put them on your head… I’m going bald from my new glasses… I hate them for that. I’m opting for moulded plastic frames only now.

It would be so helpful for me if you could address the problem I have with ears that are lower than the bridge of my nose . This makes me having to look through the top third of my progressive lenses and then have the lens magnifying the area below my eyes! The opticians do not seem to be able to adjust the glasses to address this problem.

Wow, so strange. When I chose mine I went alone, but the seller had already experience with this so she suggested the ones that fit the best. I think a good thing would be to take along a close friend or someone from your family to have another opinion.
