When Liam asks who is everyone's favorite Decepticon, Sam Riegel had the AUDACITY to say the Starscream. For those who don't know, this is the Decepticon he voiced in the animated series....
Sam! When FCG uses spells to "talk to gods" he's actually tapping into the Age of Arcanum version of the internet that only aeormatons still have the means to access
@@archbound6224 It would have been funny but also there is a certain point where reality has to take hold and you probably shouldn't encourage crazy people to take an active interest in you personally. Seem like a recipe for a Real Problem when Sam inevitably does something with the character that the society doesn't like... Escalation may be Sam's middle name but There's Haha Escalation then there's Uh Oh Escalation.
I like the idea of Fearne having a mug that says "STEAL THIS MUG", with the idea being that she stole it because of course she did. "Well, it told me to. What was I supposed to do?"
I love the idea of Fearne being autistic and genuinely not getting she shouldn’t have stolen the mug, but also because she definitely would have stolen the mug anyway.
I love that Dani has to chime in during the floating city, calamity, divergence, betrayer gods being banished whole kinda deal - chat was definitely going a lot back and forth there too during the episodes where it came up, and I'm so glad to see the cast picking each others' brains about it too. ^^

It feels nice to hear Marisha say Laudna is meant to have arrested development. Since the beginning, I've been connecting with Laudna's specific type of naivete and whimsy because it reminds me of parts of myself. Outside factors forced me to grow up quickly and that didn't really mesh with the maturity lag that came with autism. For both Laudna and myself, there's a lot of lost youth that we never received closure for and, in seeking that closure, we continue to latch onto the salient parts of our youth. Laudna is impressionable and treats her dolls like real people. I'm emotionally fragile and still think my teddy bear protects me from the dark. It goes deeper than those things but they're brief examples.
Same here, we really latched onto Laudna. Especially because there's a general feeling of basically feeling floaty and dead that's easy to latch onto as well
genuinely very impressed with sam's contributions to the lore conversation in this episode.... he went from "i don't even know what spoiler we're not talking about" to "dani's nodding, I'm right"
Even if his 'I know nothing, I never watch our shows' schtick was always partly exaggerated, I feel like Calamity was a turning point for his interest in the deep lore. They all prepped so thoroughly for that, given the time-compressed format and general style of that series. And we know that Sam goes in 110% once he actually commits to something.
@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll Sam is lowkey one of the best players at the table, as far as prepared-ness and game/lore knowledge. He just really plays it off and tries to let others do things first. You can tell when the party doesn't have a clear direction and he always suggests a good place to go. 'to zadash' etc.
@@NimrodArt He's definitely shifted from "I know nothing" to being more "in the loop" -- when the Ludinus reveal happened, Liam caught it first, Sam got it right behind him, and when Laura and Ashley were all, "who is that again?", Sam was whispering to them who he was.
He's one of those people where when he's tuned in he knows every single detail and how to maximize it to their advantage and when he's tuned out he doesn't log that they have sorcerer's in the party lol. I think he plays up that he doesn't know anything to hide the times he actually doesn't know what's going on, and does it brilliantly so people think he must then know everything, when the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I was thinking "Yes! A new opportunity! I SWEAR if it fails to fall, I riot!" And then, Liam straight-up PUNCHES the Tower of Inquiry it was sooo good to see 🤤
Orym's mug: "Visit Zephrah" touristy gift shop mug FCG's mug: "Smiley Day!" Full of copper coins Laudna's mug: Nightmare before christmas mug, but instead of Jack Skellington its Ira Wendigoth Fearne's mug: literally someone else's mug, with an entirely unrelated slogan
Yeah I was thinking that this group had to be in the next episode too, since it makes the most sense as these characters played big roles in, well you know. But I doubt they will bring in the same group twice
41:00 Ashley: "God, I can't wait to see what happens when [Imogen] gets in front of Otohan" Sam: "Might happen pretty soon" Marisha: "It makes me nervous" Me: *dying inside*
Don't they do 4-sided dive after the pre-records? So this might be fully intentional. Would explain why Ashley is in three 4-sided-dive episodes in a row.
Headcanon: The gods imprisoned on Ruidis, like the other gods, can project their influence, but can't grant spells because nobody knows their names, so they send out pulses of energy that grant power to children born that day, allowing them to gain power and influence in the hopes they'll pursue the mystery and rediscover these lost gods' identities, and maybe even free them. The shades seen on the moon are Ruidisborn souls claimed through the "mark" these gods have left on them, and the shadow assassins are a sort of golem, remotely animated by the moon gods and infused with Ruidisborn souls, tasked with preventing non-Ruidisborn folks from discovering the purpose for which people like Imogen are granted powers.
I love how they all laugh at Sam making the dumb joke about the Chroma Conclave being and inside job, forgetting that two dragons infiltrated three governmental powers to help do this. Note: Yes Brimsyth was already in before but he was 100% doing stuff to help prep for the attack and keep attention off Thordak's release.
The section around 50:00 about Laudna makes me think of her as an older woman but she has a young soul that didn’t have a childhood so she’s just full of untamed wonder and awe about the world and to me that’s very cute and endearing for a horror character lol
And oh boy, thank you Ashley for sprinkling some Scandinavian folklore/mythology into Fearne's backstory - there are indeed some very dark, tragic and plain weird tales there, and I'm excited to see where this all leads and what you've added if we ever get to come across it! (Fingers crossed.)
Watching this after episode 33 dropped and Liam saying "Orym is a final girl" during the horror movie question. Oh no. OH NO. He jinxed himself by knocking that tower and answering the question like this.
Watching this after ep 33 and seeing Ashley say about Imogen "God, I can't wait to see what happens when she is front of Otohan" and my body just can't!
I love Liam's just FEELING IT while he was wearing the Laudna hands. Same feeling of having long pretty fingernails, boy, is it inconvenient but you feel divine lol
50:00 You know, Laudna is an undead person. It isn't indeed the strangest thing for her to have the believe that her dead rat might actually be undead too. 50:20 "she saw those marrionettes come to life" I mean, she was a person hanging from a tree with a rope disguised in the costume of a vox machina member. It is a poetic parallel for her to resemble a marrionette in that way like i totally agree with marisha's point of impressionability, gullability and hopefulness, but it is so very perfect for these traits to apply to how she understands her dead animal dolls.
I have a fun little theory not lore related, with the moon stuff it's Matt's way of introducing spelljammer stuff so he can scare Travis with the space clowns 😃

I love how *spoilers* C1: Percy invents guns, and that carries over into future stories with certain factions using them more. C2: The CA crack open Dunamancy and develop artificial ways to exploit it. As well as the Aeormatons being woken up en mass. C3: "Oh yea. It's all coming together" with the latest shenanigans in Hellcatch.
Here's a theory: During the calamity, some floaty city people thought they would be "safer" on the moon. They somehow got themselves there and now they are fudged beyond measure.
It's not a bad theory, but to my knowledge Ruidus is the embodiment of Friday the 13. Every bit of bad luck and superstition is associated with that moon. Even the color could be perceived that way

I've been catching up with campaign 3 for the past few weeks, and I got to 32 last Friday morning... Then I saw Matt's tweet and I got scared. Then I saw other tweets and got really anxious about Monday
I like that during the game the cast is relentless in teasing Matt. Yet when he gets upset off set they got his back and drown him in endearments. 47:46 for reference.
This might be the best 4-Sided Dive yet. So much revealed, so much casual and jovial energy, Ashley hosting for this episode, questions while playing Crawl, and best of all… LIAM PULLS A FEARNE MOVE!
Why can't the cities on the moon be the followers of the banished gods who were banished at the same time as the gods because those that banished them wanted to eliminate potential knowledge sharing of said banished gods?
And why can't it be that the "shadow people in the red storm" Imogen sees in her dreams are just people in the cities on the moon that she can see in her dream because she's ruidus born? Fearne hasn't dreamt about them and is ruidus born, so that would also mean something else is going on with Imogen (which I think we knew anyway but that's circumstantial evidence).
I mean, there have been hints that Imogen's mom is ruidus born. So maybe it's a second generation thing? Or maybe her mom was involved in moon stuff that caused Imogen to have greater connection?
@@Lynch2507 I think it's gotta be something to do with the combination of telepathic abilities (where are those coming from though?) and being ruidus born
It was mentioned that the Ruidus-born were getting stronger in the more recent years' births. Fearne is over 100yrs old, and Imogen is presumably in her 30's (I imagine). It could very well be that time difference makes the difference in Fearne not having the dreams. Also given that her mother is also Ruidus-born, that could play a part.
Random theory: What if F. C. G went against killing and genuinely wanted to help instead of hurt or kill. When he did so the mass producer or just producer of other bots like him didn't like F. C. G going against protocol or the mission so he Implanted something that would turn him to a hateful and vengeful state to complete it. And once it was completed he was just cast aside still with the bad implant in him and effecting him from times past.
this makes me think of FCG as the robit equivalent of those dogs that fail out of working dog training because they're too friendly, which is *delightful*
Theory: Hadar (as in the spell Hunger of Hadar) is a cinder red star-like 'elder evil' from the Far Realm. What if Hadar was attempting to break into this prime material plane, but the gods put up a divine gate to keep him from coming all the way through. Hadar is a dying star and feeds on living creatures to postpone its death, so maybe the gods were protecting Exandrians. Hadar even has agents called the Heralds of Hadar. The mysterious assassins maybe?
Here I am thinking that Liam was gonna be the one to knock over the tower on accident and be all quaint and soft about it, then boom, he brings the whole place down with a swift punch in the most boss way possible, letting it fall with grace. And might I add, i think he's the best out of these four to have gotten those claws. The sheer sass (And dorkyness) he wields them with it just *chef's kiss*👌
Another hit episode of 4-Sided Dive where the gang makes Matt insecure, Ashley gets jazz gatekept by Sam, and Liam wears a Edward Scissorhands cosplay!
Thank you, Critical Role and 4-Sided Dive, for imposing a Consequence upon Liam whereupon he becomes even hotter than usual. Your generosity has been noted. :)
I've recently been rewatching campaign 1 and I've always been interested with Zarahs moon patron and Vesh, Kashs deity. Now seeing that campaign 3 is heavily diving into moon shit I'm really hoping for a return on Kash and Zarah.
I initially thought the same thing, but I did research on both Vesh and Zarah’s patron, and neither of them are technically deities. They’re considered lesser gods. Also, if Ruidus has been around since at least the Age of Arcanum then the timeline wouldn’t match up
@@Thndrcougrfalcnbrd that is very true but I mean there isn't really a timeline before the Age of Arcanum, it's all a weird soup, just records yanno... I'm really holding onto this thought bc Kash mentioned a barrier being weakened in the first campaign when they went into the crypt to get The Death Walkers Ward, so there is potential that there may be a connection. Regardless i'm curious to see what happens.
My hypothese: Ruidis-born is a recruitment magic for the trapped gods to get followers. The city could have been a floating city which flew up to Ruidis. Perhaps from the age of arcanum… avoided the calamity? The power-spike from the leyline nexus event is the end-goal for freeing the the divine entities from Ruidis. Ruidis shows some connection to Feywild, so maybe the trapped deities are of Fey origins? The Nightmare King said he didn’t want to bring on an apocalypse event, so maybe he just wants to make his own powergrab during the apogee solstice, since he definitely declared he’s got intentions different from the other factions maneuvering for the event.
They showed the word "Nightmare" before the broadcast started, and everyone in chat was saying "Nightmare" just in case it a prize was associated with it (I think). Anyways, I think the proper response would have been either "King" or "Nightmare King" if that happened to be the case...
OMG it's the other way around - she has a thing on her neck, it's a tether, as if THIS IS their astral plane, from their perspective. And the assassins who turn to slush are also astral projections. OR, to get out of their god jail, they use the Astral Projection spell, then find a doorway from there to Exandria. So they live behind the gate, and project in THEIR dreams to come to the material plane.
These people are so amazingly creative beyond the added demand of thinking on the spot in a 4 hour improv every week. Actors may think about how to portray a character based off a script with a little improv thrown in but this is a whole other level and it is done masterfully.
What if the Prime Deities have only one prison, so when they banished Vecna, it had to be the same prison. Now, the two older gods have a third ally, who has knowledge of Exandria all the way up to 30 years ago. If Vecna returns with backup... That's bad.
Partially I do not think the thing imprisoned vecna at all it was just a way to force a god behind the divine gate. ( witch is surrounding ruidus.) I expect ruidus to be a spelljamming port like the rock of brahl.
I think the problem with that theory, while it would be awesome, The prison was created long before Vecna tried to become a god. And by that time it seemed like no one was supposed to touch it or know about it. The ritual used to banish Vecna was the same that banished Tharizdun during the Calamity, it just pushes Deities out of the Material Plane and gods just make their home somewhere else. Tharizdun got shackled to the Abyss and the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount states Vecna wanders the realms.
i don't think its vecna, just because I highly doubt Matt wants to reuse a big bad. I could see Vecna's ascension being noticed by whatsever in the moon and then things escalating from there, but i doubt vecna is the big bad again
A thought occurred to me when I was watching this: What if Exandrian historians have the heirarchy of the Gods wrong, and the Unknown Ones imprisoned within Ruidus are actually the true Prime Deities? What if the beings we currently know as the Prime Deities are actually Usurper Gods? And the True Primes are trying to lure the Ruidusborn to the moon so they can absorb enough magical energy/souls to power up enough to break out and reclaim their place at the head of the heirarchy (probably through very violent means)?
If I had a nickel for every time I heard Liam talking about The Jaunt, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Seriously, I've read this story couple years ago because he mentioned it somewhere xD It's a good story 💀
IIRC he misremembered the title when he first mentioned it, but I knew what he was talking about from the description. I'm a little bummed he spoiled some of the plot in this video though. It's such a great story.
Agreed Zolo but all the same there's a limit to how long after publication one can reasonably expect the spoilers tag. I originally read it as a child, forgot about it, and reread it because Liam reminded me in 2x98 (had to look it up) that it existed. Creepy in a different way as an adult.
SAME HAHAHA he mentioned it in Talks Machina, with Laura as the other guest, and that's when I first got to read it since he pitched it so well. The other instances I think is in one episode I think in C2, and I hear there's another one in Dalen's Closet
I’m telling y’all the moon has to do with the gem dragons, specifically Sardior who lives in the “ruby palace” which is often “mistook for a small red moon”. Red moon with buildings on it, psionic powers, it all fits
I hope you're right, just because that sounds so dang interesting. Cosmic body being the vessel for an unfathomably ancient dragon, the likes of which the world hasn't seen? Yes please
The only thing that keeps me not following this theory is the large emphasis on the moon (most likely containing) the two ancient beings/deities and not just one
@@spencerwilliams4413 I definitely think that there’s more going on than just Sardior, but there’s no way it’s all just a coincidence in my opinion. That would mean that Matt is blatantly ripping off stuff from 3e without giving any credit to the original source, and I don’t think he would do that

My thought was "Stealing is a mug's game." But that might be a bit Bri'ish...

Liam just punching the tower when he went to pull from it was SUCH a power move. I love it so much.
I think FCG's cup would be a color change kind that just has an angry face while the beverage is hot, and as it cools down it reverts to "Smiley day!"
YES!

Thank you so much, you're amazing
Especially because there's a general feeling of basically feeling floaty and dead that's easy to latch onto as well
"Smiley day to ya!" is definitely a coffee cup slogan

genuinely very impressed with sam's contributions to the lore conversation in this episode.... he went from "i don't even know what spoiler we're not talking about" to "dani's nodding, I'm right"
Even if his 'I know nothing, I never watch our shows' schtick was always partly exaggerated, I feel like Calamity was a turning point for his interest in the deep lore.

Marisha: "It makes me nervous"
Me: *dying inside*

It is a poetic parallel for her to resemble a marrionette in that way

could you please put a spoiler warning for future episodes at the top of this comment for people watching chronologically? 😥❤
Could be like, "tiers" of ruidius born? Or maybe Imogens whole psychic deal is separate from ruidusborn and thats what's triggering the dreams?
I mean, there have been hints that Imogen's mom is ruidus born. So maybe it's a second generation thing? Or maybe her mom was involved in moon stuff that caused Imogen to have greater connection?
@@breenaj1095 I think the latter more likely
@@Lynch2507 I think it's gotta be something to do with the combination of telepathic abilities (where are those coming from though?) and being ruidus born
It was mentioned that the Ruidus-born were getting stronger in the more recent years' births. Fearne is over 100yrs old, and Imogen is presumably in her 30's (I imagine). It could very well be that time difference makes the difference in Fearne not having the dreams. Also given that her mother is also Ruidus-born, that could play a part.

And once it was completed he was just cast aside still with the bad implant in him and effecting him from times past.
this makes me think of FCG as the robit equivalent of those dogs that fail out of working dog training because they're too friendly, which is *delightful*
@@amyzhou6213 F.C.G. is a Claptrap unit. change my mind lol
Liam bringing up transformers hands down my favorite part, I would like to nerd out with this man about decepticons and autobots.
Same, especially since he’s voiced transformers in the past
Here I am thinking that Liam was gonna be the one to knock over the tower on accident and be all quaint and soft about it, then boom, he brings the whole place down with a swift punch in the most boss way possible, letting it fall with grace. And might I add, i think he's the best out of these four to have gotten those claws. The sheer sass (And dorkyness) he wields them with it just *chef's kiss*👌
SOMEHOW I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE DOING THE 4SIDED DIVE TODAY. MY DAY JUST GOT 999 TIMES BETTER
Another hit episode of 4-Sided Dive where the gang makes Matt insecure, Ashley gets jazz gatekept by Sam, and Liam wears a Edward Scissorhands cosplay!
There is nothing better to me than watching friends truly enjoy themselves together. The content when you guys are together is always pure gold
25:30 As soon as Sam said “I think we all have a theory,” I got it. I legitimately had no idea who “D” was, but now I am certain.
Sounds like someone from C2 but I can't think of anyone who would fit :/
@@sakrira I think the cast (and a bunch of viewers) are thinking Devexian.
Thank you, Critical Role and 4-Sided Dive, for imposing a Consequence upon Liam whereupon he becomes even hotter than usual. Your generosity has been noted. :)
The actual consequence should be that he has to host the next episode with the hands
This episode is x10000 more emotional after watching todays episode. Good thing I didn´t watch this before or I would´ve died.
FCG, "ask your God for advice...."
"Hey Siri?" Additional AI he gets that's an informational database dating back to Aeor
Watching this AFTER watching E33 makes Liam's actions with The Tower of Inquiry hurt. He most certainly suffered dire consequences.
My fave friends-hanging-out moment: "This game does not suck, you're the one who sucks!"
I can't wait for Bells Hells to finally get to the moon and find out it's just New Orleans 1895.
@@Thndrcougrfalcnbrd that might not be true in Exandria though. Matt has changed a few things from your standard D&D lore.
Theoretically their baby would be 30 abd a potential NPC
Marisha doing the "it's just a theory" in that exact cadence made me complete out loud "A GAME THEORY"
Liam demolishing the tower genuinely made me grin for like twenty minutes
The story that Liam was referring to was "The Jaunt" by Stephen King (I think)
Correct. IT'S LONGER THAN YOU THINK, DAD! IT'S LONGER THAN YOU THINK!
That's the one! A blast from the past, when he was putting out those collections of short stories. Fun stuff.
Raise your hand if you want to hear Liam do a reading of "The Jaunt." (raises hand)
@@crispymartyr That, out of context, sounds REALLY dirty.
thank you so much! I have been scrolling the comments for this
They showed the word "Nightmare" before the broadcast started, and everyone in chat was saying "Nightmare" just in case it a prize was associated with it (I think). Anyways, I think the proper response would have been either "King" or "Nightmare King" if that happened to be the case...
Liam shouting out Schenectady (and saying it right) gives me life
OMG it's the other way around - she has a thing on her neck, it's a tether, as if THIS IS their astral plane, from their perspective.
I bought my wife a coffee cup that says "Hocus Pocus, Time to Focus" and she absolutely loves it
What if the Prime Deities have only one prison, so when they banished Vecna, it had to be the same prison.
A thought occurred to me when I was watching this:
What if Exandrian historians have the heirarchy of the Gods wrong, and the Unknown Ones imprisoned within Ruidus are actually the true Prime Deities?
What if the beings we currently know as the Prime Deities are actually Usurper Gods?
And the True Primes are trying to lure the Ruidusborn to the moon so they can absorb enough magical energy/souls to power up enough to break out and reclaim their place at the head of the heirarchy (probably through very violent means)?
@@oddball87 Yup, that'd be worse
1:10:03 YES! LIAM 👏IS 👏 MY 👏 HERO!
The suspense was KILLING me, it's so good to have someone that does the work of the people!
1:10:02 and 1:28:15 Liam is just full of chaos gremlin energy this episode, I love it :D
I wish he'd bring it out during the show, so much fun!
You can see the moment of decision - 1:51:52
Creepy in a different way as an adult.
oh thank god you named it ive been looking through these comments
Isn't that from a stephen king anthology? I remember one of them from that book about waking up in a morgue.
Edit - i think 1408 was in that one too
SAME HAHAHA he mentioned it in Talks Machina, with Laura as the other guest, and that's when I first got to read it since he pitched it so well.
The other instances I think is in one episode I think in C2, and I hear there's another one in Dalen's Closet
"Are people upset at people share names, I'm far from the only Matt" oooh nuuuuu, Matt you're adorable and that DM struggle is so relatable

Liam's "pull" from the tower is the best possible pull he could have done.
He knew there was no way he was ever going to top his god-tier Jenga move from SAGAS OF SUNDRY: MADNESS so he just figured, "Screw it, I'll knock it over."

argument for re incarnation : The first law of thermodynamics: In general, the conservation law states that the total energy of an isolated system is constant; energy can be transformed from one form to another, but can be neither created nor destroyed.
so the energy that powers the human body, after the body is destroyed the energy (soul) moves on to the next one. just a thought

This 4 sided dive is hitting different after this last episode😅
Hey! Portland, OR was mentioned! And I was born there! Whoo!!! Sorry, got excited because Oregon isn't mentioned terribly often by people not from there... it's like Seattle, WA or pick a CA city... so I get happy when we are mentioned.
Some fun facts though:
- overview of Central City in The Flash TV show uses Portland, and they digitally add in STAR labs to it.
- Leverage was filmed in Portland and surrounding places because of similarities and varying climates to areas that they travel to anywhere that they'd need including Boston. You can even see TriMet in glass reflection of the light rail through Portland when Nate takes a meeting in the coffee shop with a detective I believe.
Sorry, I just learned about these over the years, got excited and wanted to share it with others!!!
