@@viktorstagnetti7491 He wasn't a champion, but he was fine with the gods. Percy's the only character in VM that might offer a truly dissenting opinion on magic, the gods and religion as a whole.
@@troikas3353 I mean, Vex, Scanlan, Grog were all kind of ambivalent. Sure, they accepted power to stop Vecna, but they didn't really have friendly feelings shown towards the gods, or anything more then, "yeah, they exist. I suppose they're alright. better then vecna, anyway" Keyleth and Percy were fairly anti-gods, though still willing to admit they might be better then some other forces. Pike was religious from the outset, though possibly chafed at some of the more peaceful parts of the religion she was actively rebuilding. Vax actually had a religious growth journey, originally toward Serenrae, but then co -opted by the Matron, who he then resented, grew to accept, and worship over the course of the campaign.
@@troikas3353 I’m sure by the end of C3 we’ll have more god-affiliated characters just like in the previous campaigns, but as of now my statement stands. VM wasn’t originally god-linked just like BH currently isn’t.

To be fair, it's a difficult situation for him. Usually this is a space for the group geeking out and theorising about the game, but it's hard to do that without making Matt feel excluded as he can't say anything. I love seeing him in these though, but you gotta feel bad for him since he's constantly playing a game of lies and literally can't give anything away.
They really need a new Talk show. B. was a turd but Talks was a real success. Ms. Burton is adorable, she does a terrific job with interviews at cons & the Watch Alongs. Oh BTW did Ashton & Dani plan their matching color schemes.
Matt kissing Sam's hand gave me just a burst of happiness. I adore this group of friends, and how they aren't afraid to show how much they care for one another.
@@gabriellealtmanThe Inevitable End is also a servant of Lolth. The Laughing Hand was created by Togor, the Crawling Chaos. The Chained Oblivion didn't really invest much into these like he did with Obann. And even Obann was duped. But if you're listing them like that wouldn't Yasha Nydoorin technically count as well.
@@gabriellealtman 'Champion' seems to be a pretty specific and significant title, being magically forced to help someone who doesn't even realise themself that they are serving a god certainly would not constitute the title.
Huge shout out for kaiti_rae22 for that question. The anwsers confirmed what I was thinking all along, and which is also the reason why watch Critical Role in the first place. It's not because it is interesting to see professional voice actors play an improv based game, it is because they are a group of friends who all happened to have the same job and that vibe still permeates the table like no other group. And it reminds me so much of my own TTRPG group in my teens, only with people who are a lot better in staying in character. And that is so much fun to watch.
Re: 36:21 when Travis asks why Ashton and Fearne didn't steal anything from Keyleth, on top of Taliesen's answer I suspect Ashton would never steal from someone else who basically has a really nasty case of chronic pain herself - Ashton can empathise extremely well there. Fearne might have, but she'd put it back straight afterwards because she'd feel bad about stealing from Orym's hero.
Please, please, *PLEASE* make Superfight part of the regular rotation for 4-Sided Dive. I laughed myself hoarse with this one, and it being a game that EVERYONE is invested in even if it's not their 'turn' makes it so much more fun.
Also, it's an improv game that they're actually good at. Not a video game that most of them are bad at and/or don't really care about, which is not much fun to watch someone else do.
Guys... I have a confession to make. I just now realized that it's Critical ROLE and not ROLL while looking at the captions during the outro. It only took 5 years for me.
It won't likely say anything as a result anyhow. One line in the spell is pretty specific: "If the thing you named isn't of legendary importance, you gain no information."
I really enjoy the cancelling of high level information gathering, as in sending and teleporting. It adds a stake and unknown that raise the tension IMMENSELY and I love it!
Sam admitting he stole mugs at Skywalker Ranch is extra hilarious to me since my high school got to record there, so I can visualize what it looked like when he was enacting his crime 36:47
Maybe even have him host _every_ time, and make it less about answering questions and more about playing games, and perhaps change the decor a bit to honour his Texan heritage, and then of course change the name of the show to something that would better reflect all of the above. How about: _"Mr. Laura Bailey's Howdy Play Saloon"_ ?
I love that they made fun of the tower of inquiry questions for being shallow and then actually pulled some pretty good ones. I'm glad that they seem to be listening to feedback and making changes to the show.
11:55 Hot take: Ludinus is a young Vecna. - During the solstice his left hand shrivels into what will become The Hand of Vecna - He has a weird obsession with the Raven Queen - He was siphoning life energy from other creatures like a lich with a phylactery - He believes he is greater than the gods - Last campaign Matt mentioned at least one wizard who might have successfully time traveled and never returned - Wotc revealed that Vecna is tied to the time traveling obelisks in Ythryn and elsewhere around the Forgotten Realms - In Forgotten Realms those obelisks were created by the weavers, who Matt teased with some of the ley line/string theory imagery leading up to the apogee solstice (also consider Nana Morri, “The Fatestitcher”) -Vecna is thought to have stolen the secrets to the obelisks from the weavers and erased all mention of them, not unlike Ludinus absorbing powerful Fey creatures, to keep others from using the technology - Vecna will be featured in an upcoming adventure from Wotc that acts as a sequel to Lost Mines of Phandelver - Where there’s Vax there’s Vecna or one of his followers
Not quite. Vecna's obsession is simply a case of, "What, you too? I thought that I was the only one who ascended!" Ludinus, on the other hand, is a Chronomancer. Basically, a high mage with control over time itself. Ludinus probably learned this at the same time, or nearly the same time, as Vecna did necromancy, along with the Raven Queen learning how to ascend. At the same time necromancy was outlawed as being too powerful of a school of magic, chronomancy was also outlawed for not just the same fundamental reason, but because the degree of severity is much more catastrophic with control over time, rather than just control over life and death The situation in C3 is that Ludinus needs the raw energy of Predathos to fate-shift, rather than time-shift, Exandria. Basically, shifting Exandria on to a path of time that the gods never existed, as well as the Calamity never happening. Remember, Ludinus has a dodecahedron in the Malleus Key. My working theory is, the Key in the Feywild was an amplification key, which BH destroyed. The Key in the Shadowfell is a stabilization key that is used to stabilize the inherent chaotic nature of chronomancy. That key remains. The Malleus Key ("malleus" here actually being Latin for "change," another characteristic of Matt's naming schemes [see the final battle in C2 with Lucien]) is the power and control source for the whole scheme, with Vax being access to the realm of Fate, and the dodecahedron being a navigation system or computer of sorts. (I think of it like the dodecahedron is acting like the massive room in Man in the High Castle showing all of the possible parallel timelines to the timeline of Man in the High Castle.) In that sense, the Age of Arcanum may well never have ended. Additionally, the veils between the planes may have never been rent or torn, allowing for planar travel, which means no demons, devils, zombies, etc. It also could mean that the Elves, Dwarves, and other non-human races cease to exist, since the gods would not have created the races. Ludinus, despite his power, really strikes me as a D&D case of, "Just because you _can_ do something, doesn't necessarily mean you _should."_ Because I'll say this: Ludinus is very much violating the Law of Best Intentions, in trying to accomplish the fate-shift of Exandria: That the best of intentions can and will lead to the worst of consequences, up to and including death. Edit: I just thought of something: In D&D canon, Vecna was originally human, like the Raven Queen. Ludinus, on the other hand, is an Elf. So Vecna can't be a time-traveled Ludinus, since the two are not of the same race.
As someone that has watched all the Campaigns multiple times, if you watched everything in 7 months that's crazy. I think it took me multiple years to get through my first watch through of C1+C2
Now i want a high-octane Ashton comic that does cool shit with his portals. Swinging the hammer into one in one panel, hitting the guy in the distance in the next panel.
X-Men #8. They fight the Brood and Magik teams up with Cyclops to use her portals. Taliesin mentioned the Hickman era X-Men on another 4SD so I have a feeling that the issue inspired him.
Travis: "Also, the better half of the group, otherwise known as Orym, Chetney and Fearne-" Tal: "Ah, easy mode - yes." Travis: *about Vax* "He's just continuously being tortured." Tal: "Nice." Oh, Taliesin, I love you~
Travis: Here on "4-Sided Dive", we like to keep a closed loop community. Everything that's said on this show, we know we can trust you with. Taliesin: Snitches get stitches.
I believe that ludinus (I’m horrible at spelling names) is going to try to absorb prodathos. I think the chest piece they found is a prototype for what he has now.
I think Otohan’s harness is an off shoot she’s using it to harness dunamace to get echo knight powers. Ludinus’ harnesses he totally absorbed fey to get extended life/youth so ya I think it’s a solid bet that V2.0 he want to uses to transcend godhood. I hope he eats something that gives him god like powers and then Preddy D invites him to dinner

When did he say this? I've been feeling it a little too, much prefer the Dive being more loose and driven by natural curiosity, but I get how they want audience engagement.
My headcanon of the first time Bell's Hells met Keyleth, and they were in awe of her power, is she thought to herself after leaving, "So that's what it's like to be on the other side of that situation." 😂 Though I am sure she's actually had that happen many times, leading her people for decades.
1:25:25 That split second before Sam finished his sentence, I deadass thought he was gonna say "Ludinous has long hair,... Matt has long hair..." As if the joke was that Matt has become Vax level meta and is in fact Ludinous. LMAO
I love that even Matt is like "You should look into it more", "start asking more questions" about Ashton's stuff. There's clearly SO MUCH lore there that Matt has just been WAITING to drop, and it feels like it probably ties in to everything happening. I have a feeling the Dawnfather and Changebringer weren’t the only ones putting out broadcasts. If they weren’t aware of Beau and Caleb’s undertakings before, they are now.
The Live show they are doing in London in October is called Mighty Nein: Echoes of the Solstice. So maybe it will cover what happened to Beau and Caleb after the apogee solstice, and them calling the gang back together.

Soooo just a wild theory regarding Ashton: MAYBE Hishari tried to awaken a primodial and MAYBE they actually did partially succeed because one of their kids is slowly turning into one
To be fair, they haven't really interacted with any Betrayers since the moon plot was even thought up (unless there's secret betrayer in the BH backstories we don't know about). I love the idea of Asmodeus being like "I'm quaking with fear" but it does make him less impressive and a little goofy.
I’m now around the 45 minute mark, and this is a sort of discussion that I’d been thinking about as times changed over the years of the appearance, the commercials, and so on. I’d been thinking how different things became from the early on first season, with lower tech and just getting the show from home game to streamed. To then getting better quality tech and making it look nicer. Then new studio, and sponsors, and more “business” related. Even sponsors that had nothing to do with D&D or even computer gaming or even computers. Old Spice, Toothpaste, and so on. I would NEVER use the term “sell out” because that’s not what I’m feeling. It just spiraled so much from what it started out as, and it’s just hard to connect back to what it was versus what it is now. In many ways, it’s great what it is now. But it’s so far afield from what it started as that it’s hard to connect the two anymore. Them talking about how great it was before the stream at all, then the early stream. I don’t really get how that old vibe ever existed, no matter how fun it feels now.
The scariest question is whether or not Ludinous is fully aware Predathos is going to kill everyone on Exandria (even if it's just collateral damage) and doesn't care. His world already ended. Maybe after he sets Predathos loose Ludinous is just going to skip town and find a different plane of existence to live on.
Given that they found his prototype power absorber, I am surprised none of them have made the connection that he might be trying to absorb Predathos for himself.

@@edwardcalvo4047Matt spent the whole time describing the townspeople acting like prisoners of their own town with armed guards of the temple patrolling. @@twothirdsanexplosive we saw no interactions between the towns people and the guards, we saw some people that didn't like them and one guy had a concerning comment but that's it, also the fact that there was a powerful figure in town that wanted to turn the townspeople against them. Let's not forget, the reason the guards were there is because it was a nexus during the solstice and they didn't want the power it can grant being abused which is something most countries were doing. We saw very little of the actual situation and what we did see we know was being manipulated and that's the problem, also at the end with the one guard that got to stay he was only allowed to once he renounced his faith and that is a big tell to what was going on.

Keyleth and Percy were the only non-god-linked ones in VM by the end
@@troikas3353 Grog was never officially made a champion of the Stormlord either. He just had the knuckles.
I suppose they're alright. better then vecna, anyway"
Keyleth and Percy were fairly anti-gods, though still willing to admit they might be better then some other forces.

Tal's nonchalant introduction of his hipster fighter, but there's 3, had me dying.

11:55 Hot take: Ludinus is a young Vecna.
- During the solstice his left hand shrivels into what will become The Hand of Vecna
- He has a weird obsession with the Raven Queen
- He was siphoning life energy from other creatures like a lich with a phylactery
- He believes he is greater than the gods
- Last campaign Matt mentioned at least one wizard who might have successfully time traveled and never returned
- Wotc revealed that Vecna is tied to the time traveling obelisks in Ythryn and elsewhere around the Forgotten Realms
- In Forgotten Realms those obelisks were created by the weavers, who Matt teased with some of the ley line/string theory imagery leading up to the apogee solstice (also consider Nana Morri, “The Fatestitcher”)
-Vecna is thought to have stolen the secrets to the obelisks from the weavers and erased all mention of them, not unlike Ludinus absorbing powerful Fey creatures, to keep others from using the technology
- Vecna will be featured in an upcoming adventure from Wotc that acts as a sequel to Lost Mines of Phandelver
- Where there’s Vax there’s Vecna or one of his followers
I really want this to be true, ESPECIALLY with Delilah awaiting her master inside Laudna's head
Not quite.
Vecna's obsession is simply a case of, "What, you too? I thought that I was the only one who ascended!"
Ludinus, on the other hand, is a Chronomancer. Basically, a high mage with control over time itself. Ludinus probably learned this at the same time, or nearly the same time, as Vecna did necromancy, along with the Raven Queen learning how to ascend. At the same time necromancy was outlawed as being too powerful of a school of magic, chronomancy was also outlawed for not just the same fundamental reason, but because the degree of severity is much more catastrophic with control over time, rather than just control over life and death
The situation in C3 is that Ludinus needs the raw energy of Predathos to fate-shift, rather than time-shift, Exandria.
Ludinus, despite his power, really strikes me as a D&D case of, "Just because you _can_ do something, doesn't necessarily mean you _should."_
Because I'll say this: Ludinus is very much violating the Law of Best Intentions, in trying to accomplish the fate-shift of Exandria: That the best of intentions can and will lead to the worst of consequences, up to and including death.
Edit: I just thought of something: In D&D canon, Vecna was originally human, like the Raven Queen. Ludinus, on the other hand, is an Elf. So Vecna can't be a time-traveled Ludinus, since the two are not of the same race.
Vecna's human though, how could he be a time displaced elf?
@@ionfalcom1 People can reincarnate if they bind their spirit to the dodecahedron. Vecna is also rumored to be half-elf
The Dodecahedron being capable of reincarnation keeps this theory alive for me... 👀

I believe that ludinus (I’m horrible at spelling names) is going to try to absorb prodathos. I think the chest piece they found is a prototype for what he has now.
Ludinus does a grand ceremony to absorb Predathos and the Bell's Hells are making fun of his strapon the whole time.
The harness thing is a predecessor to what otohan has i thought
@@k0pstl939That's what I think as well, but it's an interesting theory, and Campaign 2 established it's possible to do something like that
I think Otohan’s harness is an off shoot she’s using it to harness dunamace to get echo knight powers. Ludinus’ harnesses he totally absorbed fey to get extended life/youth so ya I think it’s a solid bet that V2.0 he want to uses to transcend godhood. I hope he eats something that gives him god like powers and then Preddy D invites him to dinner

1:48:30 Simpler answer: Even leaving aside extrahistorical prowess like "masters any weapon instantly", this is every Home Depot in the country, if not the world. He's got as many staff weapons and javelins as there are 2x4s.
I absolutely LOVE Kyle’s cackle! That’s a level of gremlin I hope to accomplish!
I'm still not over how good the four side dice song is
As much as mr. willingham hates being the tavernkeeper, the episodes where he is the tavernkeeper are some of the most entertaining ones
1:01:20 Ok, Tallesin and Travis discussing the specifics of the Transformers transformation noise was PEAK nerd, and I love it 😂
Finally with Matt again :D
YAY
Talisen: do the betrayer gods have champions
Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen EXU: Kymal
SOMEWHERE Aamie is watching this: REALLY?! Alright Matt bring me back in I'm ready for round two, imma bring the chaos of which is Opal 😈💅🕷️
Or EXUC w Xerxes
Sam and Taliesin are so freaking great. My favorites hands down
Please play Super Fight again. I'd watch another hour of that easily
It was funny but also frustrating. Somethings with the clear advantage got argued into submission.
@@HessianLikeTheFabric I'm talking about disparities so wide it beggars belief. Where debating it becomes a farce. It's unsatisfying.
Yeah that was my favorite game they've played. Although I would love to see beer pong with whiskey
Dinosaurs was a phenomenal television show and all of its digs on society are so amazing. I still enjoy watching it and find it hilarious.
Taliesin and Travis forgot to take into account the weight of the plate armor on Taliesin's moose's speed and endurance.
Dani's outfit is so cute!!!! I love seeing Dani so much she is the best! Please make more of the critical role clothes in bigger sizes so ppl like Dani and me can wear them too
I’m pretty sure that was Jester’s dress
I'd love to hear from Matt how much being on this show and seeing what thoughts the players are having informs him on what to do or what needs to be shown/clarified to them.

tbh the betrayer gods are likely also panicking as I doubt predathos is going to stop with just the prime deities
Maybe they're the Spicy/Umami of the Predathos palate?
This is the chaotic energy we needed. 4 Sided Dive tried to build chaos into the format. We need more of the natural chaos that Talks used to have.
As someone from Minnesota, the Minnesota summer remark got me good. Our summers are brutal
39:11 well, now I'm gonna wait for Sam to unveil a shirt with Ronin on it, lmao
Since the gods are in danger, you think the Wildmother would call upon Fjord and Cad for help??
I have a feeling the Dawnfather and Changebringer weren’t the only ones putting out broadcasts. If they weren’t aware of Beau and Caleb’s undertakings before, they are now.
The Live show they are doing in London in October is called Mighty Nein: Echoes of the Solstice.
So maybe it will cover what happened to Beau and Caleb after the apogee solstice, and them calling the gang back together.
@@MidasStorm yeah I just watched the comic con q&a where Matt said that and I’m super hype
cad for sure. i mean, one of the reason he isn't in the M9 vs Ukutoa~ oneshot was because he was busy constructing a temple for her. he's THE god person in M9 and i would be very surprised if mom didn't call her favourite son to help stop calamity mk2, and even more surprised if he refused.
@@rayebeardit already made no sense that Beau and Caleb wouldn’t bring in the rest of the Mighty Nein for a WORLD ENDING EVENY so it would be about fucking time. Don’t understand the mindset behind “oh yea it’s just their work so they wouldn’t bring in others” like they’re not dealing with the most powerful wizard in the world releasing a god eater
Watched this live, but only just saw Tal's shirt - Please don't kill us Moon XD
Soooo just a wild theory regarding Ashton: MAYBE Hishari tried to awaken a primodial and MAYBE they actually did partially succeed because one of their kids is slowly turning into one
38:02 Did the cast of Critical Role just ask us to be complicit to their crimes... or else?
😅😂😂👏👏 these people are my people
"Snitches get stitches"

You would think the Betrayer gods would be shitting there pants as well with Predathos. Wasn't he sealed before the divine gate?
To be fair, they haven't really interacted with any Betrayers since the moon plot was even thought up (unless there's secret betrayer in the BH backstories we don't know about).
I love the idea of Asmodeus being like "I'm quaking with fear" but it does make him less impressive and a little goofy.
@@Aurora_Lightbringer A god quaking in fear of a thing that devours them? Sounds normal
@@Aurora_Lightbringer Imagine Gods coming to the Betrayers for help. How it would benefict Asmodeus
i dont know if its a new Camera or better editing or Green screen but i love this video quality on this episode, props to whom responsible!!
One day they'l name an episode "What the fuck is up with Matt" and I don't know if I'm looking forward to that day or dreading it.
Yes, finally. The dopamine hit i've been waiting for...
Sam *deliberately* taking the marshmallow man made of guacamole 🤣
... so Sam's Superfight character is basically a walking Guacamole-flavored mochi?
So... how long has Santa been holding a baby and a machete in the background?
0:56 Sam wanted to host so bad 😂
I’m sorry but Tal and Matt doing improv together is my new fetish
The scariest question is whether or not Ludinous is fully aware Predathos is going to kill everyone on Exandria (even if it's just collateral damage) and doesn't care. His world already ended. Maybe after he sets Predathos loose Ludinous is just going to skip town and find a different plane of existence to live on.
Given that they found his prototype power absorber, I am surprised none of them have made the connection that he might be trying to absorb Predathos for himself.
this group is just absolute chaos and I love it
0:12 Travis.... background.
Still blown away by how fuckin hard the outro music goes on 4SD
56:18 shouldve called it the Menage a Spa
Somebody had fun with the teleprompter
Minnesota in summer is ALL water source, bogs, etc… But the moose has home-field advantage. A friend of mine once lost a brand new Highway Patrol car to a moose. Even money.
17:50 I actually really like Travis' interpretation of the stuff w the Dawn Father
Honestly we don't know if the temple actually did anything wrong, we know the druid woman there was willing to lie to get what she wants and her former mentor even told the party she was kinda an extremist.
@@edwardcalvo4047Matt spent the whole time describing the townspeople acting like prisoners of their own town with armed guards of the temple patrolling. Seems pretty clear that the temple was oppressing them and they weren't welcome. Violence might not have been the right answer but I don't think you can say the temple wasn't doing anything wrong.
Moose are terrifying... as a human! No flipping way the Hippo has anything to fear from the Moose.
Yeah, the hippo wins this and it ain't even close
