Realistically, Travis is The Critter. No matter how horrible or heartbreaking a moment is, he is right there, front row, having the time of his life. You look around the table at the sorrow on everyone's faces as FCG makes the sacrifice... and there's Travis taking the moment in with excitement and wonder.
Travis is such a tactically-minded player, of course he would see and applaud the brilliant strategy in Sam's sacrifice of FCG, as well as be proud of Sam's bravery to do such a thing.
Killing off your character so your DM's wife won't be inconvenienced with the schedule while you undergo cancer treatment is the most Sam thing ever. So glad to see him back and doing well.
That's another thing I love about Sam. He's always hyping up the women in his life. Not just his wife, mother, sister, daughter, but his coworkers/colleagues/friends too.
shoutout to everyone for the way they handled sam’s departure because i don’t think it could have been done in a better way. fcg left in a blaze of glory and the rest of the party carries pieces of him to remember, sam was able to get treatment and recover privately, away from cameras and fandom, and he came back at a live show in his hometown to a massive standing ovation. truly masterful work and it’s what he deserves
1:30 the expression on Liam's face when he realizes takes me back to when Sam used his last wish to defeat the Big Bad in campaign one when he was saving it to use on Liam when the Raven Queen came for him one last time.
travis is such good person, man. the “i’m so proud of you” to counter marisha’s frustration, respect to him and anyone like that who intentionally makes sure people feel applauded in moments like that.
I dont think it was to counter Marisha's frustration, specifically. Travis has always liked these kinds of choices. Cut to Caduceus sneaking up behind his sister and pulling out the death whistle. "Son of a bitch, I am so proud."
8:15 No matter the couple, there’s always the relationship between the D&D nerd and the partner who doesn’t play. And then the moment comes where they actually sit in on a session ( >ヮ
Can NOT rewatch ep 98 now with out getting MASSIVE goosebumps when Sam is brought out, KNOWING now what this great player had to endure over the last months. Was glad to know he beat this and can continue on! glad to see him back.
1:50, Sure Talesin managed to have his replacement character (Cadeucus) be there in part to comfort the party after his previous character (Mollymauk) died, but I gotta also hand it to Sam, as twice now he has managed to have a character depart in an emotional way (Scanlan leaving Vox Machina after an argument and now Fress Cut Grass' sacrificial "blaze of glory") only for his replacement character (Terrion and Braius) to be there to relieve that heartbreak through being comical (made even more incredible with the fact that terrible personal issues partially forced this situation into being). He may be funny, but he is a pretty cool person when he wants to be.
I went back to look, in ep. 91, about 4:25:11 when Ashley was just about to have Fearne move closer to FCG and Otohan, you can see Sam uneasy. Sam said in 4SD that he knew then what he was going to have FCG do and he was panicking and he thinks he told Ashley not to do it. when you look, I don't think Sam gives anything away. He's like, "Ashley.. but.. but..." and then makes an FCG face, which is interpreted as, yeah but FCG is beserk right now, and then I think Marisha says Otohan is dangerous and Ashley pivots and holds Fearne back. Now Sam's just gotta survive an Otohan attack to go, and yeah, it was close...
I appreciate hearing that Sam was hidden from the rest of the cast before the live show, because I was kinda thinking their apparent surprise must have been faked or played up for the audience.
I have a question, what is it like to always expect the worst? Or have the mose uncharitable view of a situation? Like im really asking. I keep seeing people saying stuff like this and i want to know why.
@@SamuBrownYTAs a person who almost always expects/fears the worst, I’m only speaking for myself when I say its because I have been deeply disappointed and hurt so many times from being blindsided, and from being hopeful/optimistic, its much easier to be happily proven wrong than it is to feel disappointed. Other people may have other reasons, but those are mine.
(What I'm saying is speculative and talking about my perception of the scene. I can't pretend to know what actually happened in their minds as that unfurled.) During the Blaze of Glory, you can see that almost everybody had a moment, either of grief or grim realization that it was the time. Sam was about to leave the set and there was a chance that he wouldn't come back. Taliesin and Liam feel like they're thinking "Yep. It had to happen, and it's now. Fuck." ; Laura and Ashley look like they just don't want him to go ; Marisha seems to be coping through (minor) aggressivity ; and Matt looks like he was possibly deluding himself that Sam didn't need to go away, he is in _shock._ But Travis seems optimistic and encourages him to go though it. I don't know if it's just his personality, if they talked about it earlier, or if he took it on himself as a CEO to ensure that Sam was validated, and maybe that the other members of the cast needed some positivity around the whole thing. Either way, I'm glad he was there to support Sam. Because as much as he _needed_ to leave for his treatment and recovery, hearing only grief does a number to your emotional balance. And having one person say "It's all right, you can do that. We'll meet on the other end." does help a lot to keep on track.
I think this is also very much how Travis as a person tends to react to things. If you watch him through the team building trials at Nana's earlier in the campaign, he is so calm and level headed. Liam, meanwhile, looks like he has every emotion going through him at once... from all three campaigns.
I may not be a fan of the show anymore, but Sam walking onto that stage to raucous applause, having just (and still) going through a huge battle with cancer, looking like Glam Rock and Emo had had an illicit affair, will forever be top 10 Critical Role moments.
Sam is such a fantastic person, I wish him and all the others only the best and hope they will have the chance to amaze the community for many more years to come. Also Sams Shirt is FIRE, I need this immediately, where can I get this?
I also have my text size at what my friends would call silly large. You only have two eyes folks! And they start going fast! Seriously, though, love this group and I'm so happy Sam is recovering.
no but seriously, fuck anyone who's such a try hard to zoom, enhance and spoil a new character's backstory right after he arrived. like come on, you watched the show for years and that's how you repay them?
hello! i’m not sure if you have an iPhone, but if you go into settings and then find the button for accessibility features, there’s a section for display and text size. In that section there’s a button that says “larger text” that allows you to make all the text on your screen as large as you want. Hope that helps!
You should include Sam and Liam’s lesser known podcast “All work no play!” Not the filmed one. There are I think a few moments where both Sam and Liam get emotional.
New to critical role, started DM'ing 3'ish months ago for some friends. And while we've been having loads of fun, I'd like to watch some content and see if I can pick up some things here and there. Knowing Critical Role's legacy, where should I begin? I won't be watching all of their content, but just a couple of episodes.
That's difficult, you can watch one-shots or mini series like EXU: Calamity, EXU: Downfall (both DMd by Brennan Lee Mulligan) or EXU by Aabria Iyengar, but dming for short stories is different from long ones. Maybe watch the beginning of C2 and C3 and the episodes of C3 before and after downfall?
Sam didn't need to kill FCG like that, that was his choice. For all those who think that this was planned because Sam was diagnosed with cancer. FCG could have gone to Milo or to Imahara Jo. And then gotten like upgrades and stuff like that and then he rejoined FCG rejoined but as a more powerful or maybe a multi-classed automaton.
Honestly I still feel residual anger that people were even mad at Sam for something completely out of his control, even as I have to acknowledge the fact no one but the people behind that screen knew what was happening, the fact that some people got a bit miffed when Sam didn’t immediately appear when it was narratively convenient to show up as a new character was an indication that critters have now tended to fall into some kind of expectation for everything going a certain style, specifically campaign 2’s and that’s honestly why I feel some fans fell off of C3 they were bringing expectations onto the narrative Matt deliberately circumvented as per his players request of a fast -paced high-stakes narrative. So yeah we don’t explore areas fully this campaign we don’t have character arc’s anywhere near the dynamics of campaign two we have different dynamics, half the cast of characters is from a series very few critters watched and thus their relationships with each other stand out as more developed and one of those characters was Robbie’s who people complained was not in enough episodes from his appearance to his departure, the story also for the first time did not treat our gang as special or significant in any way so people accused it of plodding, not understanding that “a group of nobody’s investigating what would become Exandria’s most significant events to date” was the plot. The complaint our heroes had no real motivation to help the gods collectively was ignoring the great narrative of a gang of backstory NPC’s trying to help out to the best of their ability despite being way over their heads. Campaign three was great and I hope people give it the validation it deserves after it’s over.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I had Covid and had to recover from it, "I'm not dead yet, I'm getting better" We love you all very much ♥
Get well soon mate❤❤ health is far more important than youtube anyway
Get well soon. All the good and positive vibes sent your way. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you for uploading this! Take your time recovering. We’ll be here.

“I could be a rockstar for my wife for a week” this man is the greenest flag that ever green flagged 😭❤️

Plot twist, Sam is Henry
Relationship goals all around.
Typical Sam Riegel story.
He won DnD,
defeated cancer,
then came back at an open air life show, rocking it.
❤
The clip doesnt show it but he rolled a 777 to heal Sam in the show. Theres a little more magic with him around.

It sure puts them not really wanting to grieve FCG in a much more understandable context.
1:30 the expression on Liam's face when he realizes takes me back to when Sam used his last wish to defeat the Big Bad in campaign one when he was saving it to use on Liam when the Raven Queen came for him one last time.

The “It hits you it hits you!!” from Laura literally made me cry 😭

From the Scanlion Rage quit in CR 1 and Nott story arc in CR 2. He knows how to channel emotion and erupt it.
