Also we know Matt makes awesome cosplay, such as his Geralt of Rivia costume in campaign one, so either he made that trashy robot costume look bad on purpose, or someone else (Marisha, maybe) actually made it for him.

Knowing now that he was gonna play an artificer, the fact he had his magic items planned makes a lot more sense.
@27:50 For context, for those who, like me, started on Campaign 2 or later. When this scene happened, Travis (as Grog) immediately flung himself into combat with the dragon, rolled. Smugly called out his 19. Matt responded it was a miss.
There was an *abjectly deafening silence* for several seconds. And then Travis (The one who thinks in tactics and numbers, remember) going "Did everyone catch that?" with his mood so fundamentally altered this single moment filled in for what a music track change in a movie would normally accomplish.
One of my favorite moments of Campaign 1. That moment when the reality hits, that this is an impossible win and they *have* to run... so good.
I love how Travis screams ''these teeth are part of me!'' just to spit them out almost immidiately at 1:59
...I have never related to Travis and Laura more in my life. Travis, being scared of everything, and Laura's utterly uncontrollable terror the second she's put into the spooky situation that is FNaF.
I have to say, I love that Matt is the sweetest bean but he was so unphased through his run while everyone else was losing their damn minds.

I agree with Travis - Matt was _exceptionally_ calm during the big showdown. It really looked like it was all going according to plan. So much so, that I actually thought he more or less planned for a TPK (with escape routes, but no direct win scenario) and had a couple of cards in his back pocket like .... "you all awaken in a dark and moldy dungeon. the doors are locked. there is no food." (or something like that)
my thoughts exactly while watching the episode. Matt's was so on point with Otohan's strategy to keep everybody down to force Imogen to explode, I thought "he is playing with THAT intent, so he must have planned for this" and that gave me a little comfort... but I guess he has learned to trust the players :)

That's exactly what I thought. The way things were going there were *no* options left, and he wasn't hinting at anything either. So I was basically expecting a "you all wake up on the moon" kind of thing.

My favorite thing about this episode is at 1:15:38 when Travis says "Apagee solstice" but the captions say "apple juice solstice" which is the only thing I will call it from now on.
If I had a nickel for every time a Critical Role character
(1) was *defined* by having ALREADY died and inexplicably come back to life, and
(2) was murdered by a singular enemy in a display of ruthlessness that traumatized the party within the first 3 dozen episodes,
I'd have....2 nickels. Which is not a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
Laudna was just trying to ask Otohan about her car's extended warranty.

My headcanon is that Taliesin was in the coffin and intended to emerge from it at some point but just fell asleep instead because it was too comfy.

I love how the others are all scared and freaking out when playing Five Nights, while Matt's like, "Huh, that was fast. Well, guess I'll try again."

So far, we haven't been TPK'd in any of our main campaigns (tho we have in one-shots), but the closest we have come was every PC dying except for 1 (against a Solar and an Adult Red Dracolich). And then the beginning of the next session was that 1 character and their month-long journey to get to a temple where all of us could be revived. It was crazy

Them talking about the near TPK and different encounters made me remember that damn T-Rex they fought where for the entire first half of the fight they were basically messing with it, and then the Rex got one hit in where it suddenly did like 56 damage (and that was already halved because of Caduceus) and everyone at the table had an “oh shit” moment

Matt’s robot costume literally brought back memories of my 2nd favorite childhood halloween. I face planted into concrete twice that day, but I loved that costume.
I do love their talking moment about healing at 37:00 ish, it's a small note, but so important to know for 5e combat. Healing isn't viable as a combat option due to not hurting the enemy it means the enemy gets a free hit with not as much consequence and negates any effect of the heal done.
Really like what I am seeing with the OneD&D theories around healing, like giving Bards the innate ability to heal and hopefully buff it up to a point where being a healer feels like it means something in combat not just after it is done.
Healing is usually only good in 5e when it's boosted like Grave cleric tbh. Or like having a pool like The Celestial Warlock/Lay on hands where you can spend it independently without using spell slots can be good too (especially when you can use it as a bonus action at range with celestial warlock). Laura herself is someone that I was so happy to see picking up on this as a Trickster Cleric, because strategical healing is much more important in 5e than healing because someone's low.

The production quality on this episode was impeccable.
This last campaign we played we finally met my old cleric character in Waterdeep as an NPC and it felt weirdly emotional and satisfying at the same time
i feel like it was kind of inevitable that laudna was in more danger than anyone, including imogen, because every good villain knows that if you kill the person you're after, they just die and that's it, but if you destroy the thing they love the most, they have to keep living without it. and matt understands this because he's an evil genius.
I really love how much Travis' ADHD shows, there's just so much figitting and I can't help but relate

I love hearing little tidbits about older campaigns - I only started watching when C3 started. I'm slowly working my way through C1 so a lot of the threads/connections to C1/2 I don't always catch. Someday I will catch up, but it might be awhile (and I'm okay with that as I'm having a blast on the way there!).
I just realized that these are our two CR couples. 🥰

Laudna's death was definitely a double edge sword, because if she didn't die then Delilah Briarwood would have probably compromised the mission to destroy the Malicious Keys, but if they didn't spend as much time trying to resurrect Laudna and expel Delilah out, then the time would have been spent leveling up, for instance, FCG going to the Aeor ruins or Ashton learning more about who he is and what the beacon is.
I would kill to see Chetney in a Rankin-Bass style claymation Christmas movie…

Marisha and her costume are absolutely perfect. Matt hating and absolutely committing to his robot costume is fantastic.
My first character who died was a Kenku rogue named Scream.
He was killed by Bad Fruul in a second story room when the giant put his club through the window and flailed it around. The party entered the room later and found my character splattered on every surface.
I still have his character sheet. I wrote other Kenkus later, but Scream is still special.
my kenku sorcerer named Kettle (wore a kettle as a helmet) also died in my first campaign. I only spoke as Kettle in repeated phrases so as the hag of Barovia fireballed little kettle, their last words were "I'm pretty underwhelmed, not gonna lie"
