That opening riff never fails to give me chills. And the first line - “my mind is clearer now” - is as Shakespearean a line as from any 20th century text.
Brandon Victor Dixon was great as Judas. His Superstar is one of the best I've seen after Carl Anderson. In fact, outside of John Legend and Alice Cooper (who I thought both fell a little flat), I loved the cast for this version. Mary, Pilate, the pharisees, Peter, Simon, and the ensemble were all on point. I loved the choreography, set design, and costuming too. The scene where the crowd is calling for Pilate to crucify Jesus, and they keep moving the barrier closer and closer to him made me feel Pilate's anxiety over the hopeless situation he found himself in. I wish this version was easier to access. I'll probably have to bite the bullet and buy a DVD at some point.
I really liked Alice Cooper (although I'm a bit biased, as this was the first JCS production I saw), and felt like John Legend's performance bit mixed, but I thought both were very clever casting decisions given the live audience. Having a pop star as Jesus who the crowd was constantly cheering for compared to a more unknown Broadway star as Judas and an older rock star from a different era as King Herod cleverly reinforced the character dynamics for a show that deals so much with the concept of celebrity.

He is very good but I still am in love with Tim Minchins version. But this clip has the energy of the "crowd " which I love.
I'm not sure if the acoustics are poor . But , Carl Andersen , can not be equaled. Tim Minchin's version is not as good as Carl .

3:44 This riff still lives in my head rent free, he pulls it off in such a clean way
the way he kills it with ''all your followers are blind'' never fails to give me chills
Carl Anderson is second to none,Rest in Peace.
Tim Minchin's performance of Judas is one of the best it's a little more grittier this one's good from a more polished performer
I love this song and the whole musical
Fantastic musical !
Such a great performance!
He carried this entire show. Like, I know he had to see a chiropractor after.
Beautiful 😊
Look closely you'll see a young Michaela Diamond in the chorus. This was her first gig, now shes a 2023 Tony nom
Why can’t I save this to my play list?
The only good thing about this production was Brandon Victor's Dixon's performance as Judas. That's it!
