Carl Anderson (RIP) and I were having a glass of wine and he asked me if I knew anyone who might be able to do justice to the song and maybe play his part. I had a few suggetions and if I'd heard Jodie back then I would have mentioned her name. She is great.
how is being in show meaning you understand song, its like saying voice actors for game characters are pro players.... you see baby. I understand song i don't sing neither am i christian in belif. Tho i understand christianity better than 90% christians.
Jodie's voice control is just incredible. It shows even more as to how talented she is, along with her ability to take on the training she has had too.
I have directed this show four times, seen two Broadway productions, scoured You Tube listening to about a dozen version of the song and accidentally came upon this version by Jodi Steele. Out of context, her voice is a technical marvel, a soaring masterpiece. She plays her voice like the guitar of Joe Satriani.
Jaw-dropping, no matter how many times I see this... Vocally, this is imho the best rendition of Heaven On Their Minds. Though concert acting leaves something to be desired, I believe Jodie will truly shine if she stars as Judas in an actual production of JCS.
Or, hear me out, have a completely different show about various goddesses and female heroes etc. Whilst I would enjoy a gender swap of JCS, I would enjoy something new as well
To everyone who says she's not acting it right or doing too many riffs, this is a cabaret setting where the plot doesn't matter as much as the song. Also, this is literally my favorite version of this song!!!! I'm not a fan of the "ruff" Judases because I think the whole point of JCS is to try to make you see it from judas's perspective. So her voice is perfect because I flips the whole jesus vs. judas upside down. Fabulous job!!!
Actually, I think she did an excellent job. I think she fits the role perfectly. If I closed my eyes I can here a bit of anxiety in her voice, as though she’s really trying to get through to Jesus.
I think the rough voice makes Judas more relatable, in contrast to the crisp and clean "godly" notes of Jesus. Jesus only really falls into a rougher sound when he has doubts at Gethsemane, and that's when he's most relatable to the audience. I think she has an amazing voice, I'd never argue against it, but I don't think a clean sound equates to audience relatability.
I am a huge fan of the original play and musical and have seen the movie a hundred times and the original cast Neeley and Carl Anderson as judas together on stage like 6 times...untouchable until now....this is an INCREDIBLE passionate performance and delivery... reading some of the petty comments ( one negative in my view is too much on this one) and about this and that ...it is about passions listen with your heart and soul and not from from shallow or smug point of view... she blows it away...Carl Anderson will always be the best...but then the question is who is better Michelangelo or Leonardo...but when I came across this by accident I was floored and listened to it ten times straight not a moment she doesnt nail it dead on....with her razor sharp vocals and pace and most of all heart...these are the kind of treats in life that make it so rich ...
I mean she was Heather Chandler and is now currently Katherine Howard in the tour cast of SIX, so, I’m pretty sure Mean Girls could be seen in the near future!
@@darceygrace634 Jodie is actually returning as Heather Chandler this summer, as Heathers has been given another West End run from June 21st until September 12th
What's with all the hate I meet jeez guys calm the f down just because it isn't the original I mean guys take another listen and open your mind a bit. This is friicking amazing. All you guys are just jealous of her AMAZING talent.
YES!!!!! I'm just starting singing lessons and I love singing high, so this and her version of Gethsemane are perfect for me to practise along with 😁😁😁
My mind is clearer now. At last all too well I can see where we all soon will be. If you strip away The myth from the man, You will see where we all soon will be. Jesus! You've started to believe The things they say of you. You really do believe This talk of God is true. And all the good you've done Will soon get swept away. You've begun to matter more Than the things you say. Listen Jesus I don't like what I see. All I ask is that you listen to me. And remember, I've been your right hand man all along. You have set them all on fire. They think they've found the new Messiah. And they'll hurt you when they find they're wrong. I remember when this whole thing began. No talk of God then, we called you a man. And believe me, my admiration for you hasn't died. But every word you say today Gets twisted 'round some other way. And they'll hurt you if they think you've lied. Nazareth, your famous son should have stayed a great unknown Like his father carving wood He'd have made good. Tables, chairs, and oaken chests would have suited Jesus best. He'd have caused nobody harm; no one alarm. Listen, Jesus, do you care for your race? Don't you see we must keep in our place? We are occupied; have you forgotten how put down we are? I am frightened by the crowd. For we are getting much too loud. And they'll crush us if we go too far. If they go too far.... Listen, Jesus, to the warning I give. Please remember that I want us to live. But it's sad to see our chances weakening with every hour. All your followers are blind. Too much heaven on their minds. It was beautiful, but now it's sour. Yes it's all gone sour. Listen, Jesus, to the warning I give. Please remember that I want us to live. see'mon, see'mon He won't listen to me ... see'mon, see'mon He won't listen to me ...
hmm I actually loved her interpretation and am surprised to see the comments saying she's not acting properly the song sounds 'dangerous' and convinces Judas is full of doubt and will DO sth. at least for me
It's definitely a different interpretation. The usual Judas is already a little unhinged and is having a breakdown in the opening number, but this Judas sounds like she knows what she's doing.
This is absolutely fantastic. Now I want to see a production of JCSS where Judas is played by a woman - sparks between "Judas" and Mary Magdalene would take on a whole new dimension...
been to many shows all around the country to c this show over the years jodie sings this song by far better than anyone i have ever heard go on jodie luv yer girl x
I want to see most musical theatre gender bent, but JCS is at the top of my list! Ever since I was cast as Female Judas in an amateur punk rock production that fell apart before it hit the stage... Damn, it was fun to try to put together though! We had a boy cast as Mary Magdalene too, partly because of his awesome falsetto, and partly because we just really wanted to queer things up. ;)
still my absolute favorite video on the internet
Whoa, didn't expect you to show up here
Omg Kat!!! First we take on Broadway and The West End, and then the world!
Einsss...?
😂 A relative...
I understand now.
Ok👍🏼✨
This just made me love you even more

for everyone saying she doesn’t understand the song: she was IN THE SHOW.
Exists an official Jesus Christ Superstar genderbent?
What production? She played Judas?
MusicFeedsYourSoul i don’t think she was judas

white dwarf if she was in the show, she’s gotta know what the show is about lmao.

Holy shit!!! She's Badass. Amazing voice.
Totally agree 😍
I have listened to numerous versions of Heaven on Their minds and Jodie Steele's,version has,so much conviction and passion behind it
Then you never heard the original.

I'm straight and I'm in love with her.
I love all her contained facial expressions... the little sneers..... I am, how you say....gay

Whoa-ow-ow-ow-ow I'm in love with Judah-as, Judah-as.
Great Technique!! These are some kick ass vocals, I love hearing a really strong female voice on this.
this is such a good version, the acoustic guitar and whole vibe of the instrumentation is top notch

Okay but the "please remember that I want us to live" part hit me right in the fucking chest.
This is simply amazing! Her voice and technic are flawless!
Please, can we have a genderbent version of this show with Katie Hall as Jesus and Jodie as Judas? I WILL SELL MY SOUL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN
Now that is something I would love to see. Especially after just watching a video of Katie singing Gethsemane
Or, hear me out, have a completely different show about various goddesses and female heroes etc.
Whilst I would enjoy a gender swap of JCS, I would enjoy something new as well
Just though I’d mention there’s a video of Jodie Steele singing gethsemane on the roles we’ll never play channel it’s amazing
there's a genderbent version on spotify now and it's really good!
Carl Anderson's vocal performance in this song is exceptional and I thought no one could ever come even close. I'm glad I was wrong. Wow.
I literally cannot get over this. Beautiful. omg.

Fantastic voice, oh my Good, thanks for your talent..... And a exelent music, Good bless you....
Her version is really similar to Tim Minchin's. They use a lot of the same vocal melodies for the high bits.
His version makes me cringe, hers gave me chills
Moved to tears!! Amazing voice!
3 years later not many of us left jodie u gripped that song girl x
I'm surprised but I actually really loved that. She has a really interesting voice and it was exciting to listen to.
still come back to listen to this classic jodie

This song always makes me think of Judas as a frustrated publicist
Best interpretation. The line about "mass communication" in Superstar backs this up.
I laughed way harder than I should have
I'm surprised by the replies here. I thought this was deliberate, not accidental.
Yes!!!
Low key accurate
Would love to see a male Jesus and female Judas; think that would be a really cool dynamic!
No, Jesus is a male and Judas is a male. Period. End. No changing that.
