Please be aware though, that while this is automated and saves you manually copying things, this is a half-baked backup solution still - as it will remove the copy in your 'backup' of anything you accidentally may have deleted on your Mac, will overwrite a perfectly fine project file in the backup with a newer version that might have become corrupted, etc. Chances are, the moment you even become aware something is missing / corrupted, it has already been updated in the backup and there is no way of bringing back the old state. ⚠️😳

Hy Chris, I think you don't have to reformat the drive. Just drag and drop the drive you want to store to the dropbox again

this awesome! I literally discovered this backup feature a few minutes ago lol I've been paying for backblaze but it's not my favorite way of working. Currently DB holds all of my raw footage. If i want to backup my external hardrives in DB, let's say to save space and avoid buying hard drives all the time, I delete something off the external hard drive but dont do anything to the DB folder, will that deleted file from my hard drive still be present in DB or is it constantly syncing to copy the hard drive exactly? Hope that makes sense. Back blaze is constantly syncing so I delte from the HD it's gone in the current date of backblaze and I have to keep rewinding to find it. Hope I make sense. THanks!!!!

This is nonsense, dropbox messes up all the files and all my logic files are now corrupted and I cant open it. WTF

Hey Chris, do I need to put my imac sound library on dropbox or just my project? Your suggestion matters to me. Thanks for your response.

Do you have any concerns about backing up Logic folders to the cloud without them being zipped? I wrote a fairly complex Automator script to search my Logic project folder, find anything edited within the last day, zip it, then backup to a NAS which is cloud backed up. But a lot of this complexity could be avoided if Zips weren't necessary.

I save all my Logic files in folders with the song name. Then I can always open then on any of my Macs in different locations. About a month ago the Logic files stopped being available. on the other Macs. The folder is there and lyrics and Mp3's are in it, but the Logic files no longer move into the dropbox folder so I cannot open them on my other computers.. This has been my workflow so this is major panic situation for me......why did this happen and can I make it work again. (The dropbox also puts the folders on my Mac hardrive and I download the macs internal drive with Carbon Copy Cloner)

Hi Chris- GREAT channel BTW.... What about the hit on Logic when you constantly run the Dropbox backups in the background? I have found that both Chrome and Dropbox use a ton of CPU, and can cause system overloads in Logic very quickly..... Any thoughts on that?

Quick question, does the Dropbox system backup move everything onto the cloud or does it simply make a snapshot/copy of your local drive on the cloud?

Curiously… how much does the hourly Dropbox activity slow down computer? I tried the Backblaze service and it compromised cpu. I imagine it may be similar.

Yeah. Don't ya hate how Apple un-abled CCC from making bootable externals!!! ....

Actually with the M1 Silcon mac you can create a CCC bootable clone as long as your internal M1 SSD is functioning. I have tested it and it works. Note if the internal M1 boot drives dies then the CCC bootable clone cannot be booted. So this workflow is limited but can be ideal for creating clones to test out a new OSX or application before installing it on the primary boot drive.
