Top 10 Rock & Roll Groupies 💔 Then and Now

- Nobody knows quite when the idea of a “groupie” first came to be. The term itself dates from the mid 1960s, but the idea of young women throw ng themselves at their musical heroes dates back decades before that, probably even further. One can almost imagine a young Austrian lass frantically waving her corset as Motzart breaks into his “Magic Flute.” Anyways, we don't think about corsets and operas when we think about groupies, we think about rock and roll. I’m Nostalgic Nick for Doyouremember, and today we’ll be looking at some of the most important groupies in the history of Rock n Roll. Be sure to hit the thumbs up and subscribe to our channel, but now, let’s get to the ladies who had rock stars wrapped around their finge
Bebe Buell
Sable Starr
Anita Pallenburg
Pennie Trumbull
Cynthia Plaster Caster
“Sweet” Connie Hamzy

These are not women to be respected or emulated.

Jimmy Page's girlfriend was 13 also. Jimmy left Pamela De Barres at the whisky one night and left with the much younger Lori Maddox. She was a teenage model.
@@davedavis775 It wasn't at the Whisky. It was at Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco.
@@Almost_Famous_Ryan Didn't Lori switch over to Robert Plant for awhile and then end up having Ace Frehley's baby? Whatever happened to her?
@@gopmomof2 Nope, Lori was Jimmy Page's girl. Jimmy left Pamela Des Barres for her. Audrey Hamilton was with Robert Plant and then eventually on to Ace Frehley.
@@gopmomof2 Last I heard, Lori managed and worked as a buyer for GlamBoutique on Melrose Avenue.
This was very interesting but also depressing. Everything runs on the fuel of sex, power, ego, and $$$. I love music for music’s sake. Creeps me out that the rock scene is one big orgy.
I was going to leave you a like, but I'm not passing the 69 likes mark on your comment.
@@jenniferroach4153 bingo! I couldn’t do it either!! 😂😂😂
So you have to listen to classical music, one problem - its boring
I didn't really watch :/. I just wanted to comment that I once saw this female so damn plastered, she slid on her own drink she spilled, dancing around & acting wild at the side of a stage, she fell & busted her head pretty hard on a table. I mean, she got back up for a bit, but the guy she was with, he went mia for a bit & she didn't even notice... he wasn't there when she fell either. Either poor guy or what a scumbag. I do believe he bought her all her drinks
Now, these sluts are all washed up and look like my grandma. Kinda sad the peak of their life is sucking a famous person's dick.
It was a different era. Rock stars and bands don't carry that mystique and mystery anymore. Killed by the internet
Exactly
@THISIS THEGIRL political shilling >paedophilia
But you have your priorities I suppose.
To be fair, nobody has bands anymore. I think that died out in the 90s...
The internet has killed so many good things. So have cell phones.
@@doctorthirteen5727 What has pedophilia have to do with it?
Anita Pallenberg was far from a groupie. Her and Keith Richards were together for thirteen years, not months, and have two kids.
Yes..but don't let that get in the way of the narrative, here.
Awww, it's just the Internet, Jake.
@Lisa Dallas Anita, like Hamzy aged horribly. It's not the glamourous life style when you’re used like a pair of underwear and as soon as it ages, they're quickly discarded.
@Lisa Dallas Sweet Connie Hamzy.
@mark jagger And a model!
The great winner here is of course Todd Rundgren who took the responsibility to be the "father" of Liv Tyler.
Liv seems to forget that
Mad respect for him.
@@superstraight8402 no she doesn’t. I watched something recently with her and she says she has 2 dads and she always feels bad cos everyone wants to talk about Steven. But Todd is still in her life which is really cool. It’s really not Todd’s fault that the other guy happens to be one of most famous rock singers of all time.
Is that prior to his most recent....,....."surgery enhancement",.............…
To me, Todd is Liv's dad, because he raised her.
I wasn't a groupie but a rock music lover. Once at a Van Halen concert I was at the side of the stage when Eddie gave me his guitar pick. Later in Las Vegas, the members of Whitesnake invited me and my girlfriend to tour the city in their gold stretch limo and go bar hopping. We had a great time and nothing happened--they were perfect gentlemen. Some of the best memories of my youth. RIP Eddie
Some guys just want to hang around with cute gals, nothing more.
I've had several similar experiences... some are very nice and respectful gentlemen.

I truly regret not being more adventurous as far as getting wild with guys . My time came and left .

HAAAAAAAHAHAAHAHA!
Anita Pallenberg was Keith Richards' common law life for many years, probably 13, instead of a 13 month relationship, as mentioned in this synopsis. They had three children together (one died shortly after birth), and he credits her with dressing him in the clothes that would later become his trademark.
He also interspersed photos of Marianne Faithfull in the montage. I can't with this dude.
@@presidentmimeo1 It's not rocket science but all the more reason it shouldn't be too difficult to get simple things correct.

I know two groupies - still gorgeous but approaching their forties now and continuing to live in hope that a liaison with a rock star will end in marriage and financial security. It’s such a tawdry business, letting drugged up, sweaty, ageing musicians grope their bodies for a few hours in the hope that they’ll fall in love, when 99% of the time they move onto fresher meat the very next night.
Modern day courtesans.
Diane Gilman on a HSN is another one. She was a groupie and as she got older, the famous lost interest and she was forced to become a "jeans designer".

@@effiebug4278 Wow didn't know that. At least, she's doing really well for herself. She's been in the fashion business for a long time and she was designing clothes for famous people in the 60s and 70s.

Love Marianne. She is not a groupie she is an artist.

It was definitely Marianne Faithful.

I was an 80/90s metal groupie from NC..not NY..not LA. Great times..great fun. Even returned to it in my late 40s after a divorce. Best birthday was my 49th where I was a single gal on the monsters of rock cruise.
Yes it was fun and flattering but it has its downside too. You are never someone's one and only. And I never entertained the notion of being a rock star wife. And despite 3 serious book offers..I have no desire to name names. It's impossible to trust any of these guys when you have seen what I have seen. Even when one of them is being sincere about their feelings towards you.
After a number of unsuccessful relationships with musicians, I decided if I want a relationship like my parents have. ..then I needed to find a nice, normal guy. Now im happier than I have ever been. And taking him to a concert with me this summer. And it's the first time ever that I'm looking forward to having a guy at a show with me.
You should definitely write a book. I’m from NC and I loved the metal bands in the 80’s. I was a little too young during this time to do what you were doing but it was my fantasy at the time. I’m sure you have some awesome memories.

Hats off to those ladies, it was a different time then, if you wanted to be a groupie it was a free choice, no one made these girls do it, they did it because they wanted to.
Well being a teenager in the 1970s in Britain was amazing & i saw Led Zepp at the Isle of Weight festival was fantastic!
3 days of the most iconic bands for £7.50 is pretty incredible
Also Free who was one of my Ultimate favourite bands
I also saw Zepp at Earls Court in London.
Pink Floyd, my 1st record, single from Floyd called Arnold Lane!
Which cost me 2 shillings & sixpence! 😆
I was music mad, not a groupie though; not my style at all.
I was happy to listen to all that incredible music which from 1968 onwards was unique & every band was different.
I also saw The Who, Small Faces,
I rated Steve Marriot of the Faces & Humble Pie as one of the best Blues singers of all time a close 2nd to Free's Paul Rodgers
I must have seen Free play about 20 times.
I still listen to Free today at least twice a week! No one like Paul Kossoff & best bassist Andy Frazer.
Also saw, The Stones, Paul McCartneys Wings with wife Linda.
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, the origional Fleetwood Mac, T Rex,
David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, The Kinks, The Move,
Emerson Lake & Palmer, The Stranglers, Elvis Costello, The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, John Mayalls Blues Breakers, Cream, Manfred Mann, The Yardbirds ( incl Jimmy Page before Zepp) Rainbow & Dio
Mott the Hoople, Hawkwind, Genesis, Jethro Tull, The Animals
Being from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the farthest north of England
There were many famous bands & singers from Newcastle
Like The Animals, Brian Johnson fr AC/DC, Sting, Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits, even Paul Rodgers & David Coverdale were from Darlington just 40miles from Newcastle
Newcastle was always on the circuit for all the bands on tour & our venue The City Hall had an amazing sound which all the bands loved playing there for its ability to make sounds, magical
It was a privilege to be young back when the explosion of incredible music erupted from Britain plus we didn't have to take out a mortgage to be able to buy a ticket to see these bands!
I still have all my ticket stubs with the bands, venue, date & price on them!
The majority of which were between £3 to £6, the Rock Festivals were 2 or 3 days & were about £7.
I think the most expensive festival i saw, was in Lincoln in the 1970 & topping the bill was Bob Dylan! Also The Byrds, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Sunny Terry
& Brownie Magee, Sunhouse,
That show was £8 & 15 shillings
Great days! Have since seen bands from the 80s & 90s & 2000s too, too many to list!
I still go to summer rock Festivals esp the ones in Germany, Holland & Scandinavia
Some great rock bands from Finland too.
Ok well its been nice to reminisce
Im still a dyed in the wool metal & rock fanatic but i just love my music!
Many thanks

I dont think, because you were female & music crazy meant you were a groupie, i went to concerts with all male mates or female or mixed, we were there to soak up the sound & amazing guitar music!
Most weeks i have 2 or 3 days playing my music solidly for hours
& now im 70 & a tad arthritic it doesnt stop me bopping & banging
& reliving that fantastic music of my youth!
My 17yr old grandson is also a metal man! Which gives me great pleasure & he says its because he listened from toddlerhood to my music & loves it as i do
The music from both mine & your generation will go down in musical history, ive thought often of just How & Why there was this music phenomena in the late 1960s, 70s 80s.. !!
It just literally exploded & the ears of humankind had never heard such a conglomeration of
Different sounds.
I remember first seeing Jimmy Page ( of Zepp) playing his guitar with a violin bow!!
It was LIVE too, it went right through you & your chest vibrated to Zepps music!
Here i go again!
Interestingly i was recently watching a Native American rock band called RedBone,( from the early 70s) they had a few big hits here in Britain which i loved & i saw the guitarist play a violin bow on his instrument!!
Im not sure who copied who but ive got a feeling RedBone did it 1st!
Zepp toured America alot in the 70s & Red Bone were fairly big at that time! As much as i adore Jimmy Page's playing i think he copied RedBones idea!!
Have you heard a fairly modern Brit band called Imagine Dragons
My grandson loves this band & although they have been around for 5 or so years i love their music too! ( love their song Believer)
Also a Welsh band ( who i swore were American) called
Bullet For My Valentine
They are extreme metal & i first
Heard their song
Tears Still Fall & i was hooked
Their lead singer Matt Tuck has
Tungsten Tonsils!!
They have been around for 14 yrs but their music is still brilliant but the music from 13yrs back is
Legend!
Its the best music to play if your in a funk!
Take care, let the Rock Roll
Peace
🇬🇧👧
You forgot Nancy Spungen.
Nancy went to my high school..Lower Moreland in Huntingdon Valley Pa.
My mother dated Steven Tyler (Tallerico) in the early 1970s slightly before the fame. My name?......ugh......Tyler.
Sweet sweet Connie was doing her act. She had the whole show and that's a natural fact.
RIP Connie
When I met her she couldn't have said all of that...
Yuck
4:26 Anita Pallenberg died in 2017 not 2009.
there's a lot of holes in the whole Anita Pallenberg story here
Here's who I groupie met: CSNY, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa & the Mothers with Flo & Eddie, Eagles, Procal Harem, Genesis, Association circa 1971 to 1975 Seattle and Portland. Gave it up to marry a surfer in Carlsbad CA in 1976.
would love to hear the stories you probably have about those times
Now we're talkin'. In my opinion, those hair bands don't even count.
Those were the days they didn't shave the bush.
I should have learned to play guitar. Daa aammm.
Thanks Covid! No groupies for awhile🤪
I know
I have been to over 500 concerts in my life. While living in Japan I saw the Jackson 5 when I was 4 years old which was my first . My favorite was Prince the Time and Vanity 6
You’re speaking my language ♥️ my best friend and I spend all our fun money on concerts. When someone tells me they spent $1000 on a purse, I tell them “that’s like 5 concerts! 😆
@@rubygirl214 Hello Youngling 👋 I tell you one thing living here in Las Vegas tickets are hella expensive nowadays. I remember paying $ 40 to see 👀 the Rolling Stones in 1981. Last time they were here cheapest tickets were $299-$13,000 . I wouldn't spend that kind of money on no one. Unless it was
Jesus or if someone sent me the money to buy it for them. Nowadays money is best on Garth Brooks or U2. They always give you twice the money's worth. Do you like the band Chicago?
@@constipatedinsincity4424 One of my sister's favorite bands is Chicago. So, she's taken me to see them a few times!
Groupies both fascinate me and make me sad. The thing is that they are generally spending time with people who only want them for as long as they are useful before kicking them out and moving on to the next available hole, and these women can't seem to understand that. Maybe the music is too loud or the lights are too bright, or they are too high to use logic. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems that way to me.
Most groupies know it's on the road and doesn't go any further. Everybody has a good time.
And remember that video of All Girl Band the Go-Gos with male groupies?!
Not the case. There might be some that don't have a clue but they are very few and far between. Groupies understand that they are there for the moment while the band is on tour and riding through town. That is until the next time they come through town.
@@tinfoilmagnolia3134 I forgot about that. I have reflected and get now that not all of them are the same or think the same way.
Women don't have to live up to your standards of sex & connection in order to be "smart." Different strokes for different folks. Furthermore, groupies are often cared for & taken care of in the scene. Girls aren't put in songs bc they're just another un-impressionable hole. Its a lifestyle. Maybe not one you agree with, but a lifestyle no less.
@@ariellelillian8644 Since I made that comment, I have adjusted my thinking somewhat. I do take into account now that not every groupie is the same. I realise now that my view was indeed very harsh. I know they can be taken care of quite often and I didn't take that into account at the time. Thankyou for the response.
I worked for a concert promoter from approx 1975-2000. We promoted National and International concert tours as well as other live entertainment. We used to call them Band-Aids.
That's the Almost Famous name for them; I sincerely doubt that's what people really called them.

i also came here looking for lori mattix.
I am VERY disappointed that Lori Lightning wasnt on this list! You see quite a few pics in this video where she is present. For christ sake....how can u not include the groupie who apparently LOST HER VIRGINITY to DAVID BOWIE?!?!?!
@@ladybfromnyc because that's a BS story as were a lot of her 'relationships'.
By the look of how haggard they look their life style caught up with them
"I slept with Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards."
Charlie Watts- "😢"
Most likely the reason Bill Wyman eventually left the band.
I heard some one say corn pop was a bad dude!!LOL According to Hidin Biden !!!
@@martybowen1 Obama's lap dog!
Charlie's deadpan humor.
Charlie’s not sweating it. Has been married to the same woman for ages - he’s the “square” of the band. Groupies was not his thang.
You left out the Butter Queen, who . . . did interesting things with butter.
No Butter Queen?? The stories are legend!
@anthropeg1978: Barbara Cope.
Side note: according to Ms. Butter, David Cassidy was very well-endowed.
I may sound knaive..but groupies were pretty.........musicians çould play.....now everything is so ugly..Zappa did " Montana"...l can suss, why.....
Too cheesy, for me......
ok... im 53... im JUST GONNA SAY IT... "kids today have no idea".... young men of today. you dont know me- but know this.. musicians get the girls... put the f'n video games down, pick up a guitar and play it until you cant play another note....youre life will be SO MUCH BETTER than you can possibly imagine
They don't want the women now. They just want to live in mom's basement with their online games.
@@sherryd3299 yep. Creepy weirdos.
They get the slutty used-up girls. Not the keepers. There, I fixed it for you.
The guy in the picture with Bebe Buell, as the narrator says “...Elvis Costello”...is actually Stiv Bators.
How sad & pathetic, their dad's must be so proud of them
What dads? Were their parents even around?
@@donnaleeclubb119 STRONGLY doubt it!
Blame the creeps playing in the bands
The Movie, The Banger Sisters The film stars Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon as two middle-aged women who used to be friends and groupies when they were young., good movie
The girl with Gene in the thumbnail is Brooke Shields, maybe 13 or so?? Hardly a groupie!!!🤣🤣🤣
That is not Brooke Shields.
No it's not 😂
Yes, it is. Look up Brooke when she was young. And I am referring to the girl on the left with Gene , not the older lady on the right if anyone is confused about that.
This is Brooke in her "Pretty Baby" movie era.
To each his own but whatever happened to showing your support by buying a ticket, maybe get a T-shirt or something otw out? U don’t have to blow everyone 😂
The Adventures of Heidi Herpes And Sydney Syphilis.
The STD Chronicles Volume 1.
There will always be groupies, but there will never be another era of rock and roll. Whatever garbage music is called today they might as well just do it on the stage.
All those so called groupies were really unattractive so I don't know what you're all on about. The musicians were either too drunk or drugged to know any different anyway.
Anita Pallenberg was gorgeous as a young woman, and still attractive as she aged. There are some very unflattering photos of her in her last years, but believe it, she was a stunner.
Are you insane? They were all gorgeous. Lori, Pamela, Connie, Bebe, Anita... Most of them actual models... Sable was adorable too.
What about Ursula „Uschi“ Obermaier, Germanys number one groupie of the late sixties? Ask Mick Jagger or Keith Richards about her.
And sadly, was likely the cause of Peter Green's overdose. But is very hard to know, for certain.
That's disgusting and disturbing when i read these commenters trying to find excuses to why their "innocent rock'n'roll hero's" slept with children of 13, till 17 years old. Underage girls! Couldn't they find someone of their own age? You people are sick.
Sweet Sweet Connie looked like she had a hard, hard life before she died. You are not young and pretty forever and booze, drugs and smokes accelerate the aging process at warp speed. All these rockers just used her. Was anybody around when she died at aged 66 but looked 86? She looked like a druggie homeless person.
Anita Pallenburg and Keith Richard were together longer than 13 months. I wish you’d get your facts straight they were together 13 years! They had 3 children and you can’t manage to 3 full term pregnancies in 13 months! Their children Angela, Marlon and I can’t recall their 3rd babies name but he died age 6 weeks of cot death syndrome. Something that still haunts Keith to this day. Anita stared in a movie with Jagger which is how the gossip started that she slept with Jagger
Yes thanks for the clarification. I believe the baby that died was named Tara (baby boy).
In 1995 I entered a small maternity wear shop in my neighborhood. The sole shopkeeper was Connie Hamzy. Since I was pregnant at 42 years of age, I recognized her. She showed me an outfit that I said was just "too sweet" for me! I caved, purchased it and received raves each time I wore it. BTW, Connie looked really well at the time. She had just been threatened by Slick Willy's handlers about the content of a book she was writing at the time. Connie was extremely pleasant and very witty.
I'm looking for her book! Did she publish it? Thanks.
Time hasn't been kind to her, unfortunately--she looks pretty rough. Hope she's okay.
WHY...,....,.zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
@@YvogaAZ No, there is no book. I believe there is a Penthouse article she wrote along with a Howard Stern interview talking about her exploits.
@@davidl570exactly. She didn't age well.
Forgot TAWNY KATTAN,she got around and sadly she died a couple weeks ago
Bebe Buell was a model, not a groupie, must every women that breathes around rockstars be called groupies? Also, there's no such thing as a bad reputation for men messing around, so why there is for women? Horrible way society treated these young women.
Pamela Des Barress actually married Michael Des Barress...groupie goal!
I was married to a musician in my early 20’s & called a groupie. Yeah not. Was never a groupie. While I loved rock bands I learned early on this was not fun at all. I actually was “with the band”.
Your point???
Lol yeah. Keep telling yourself that
Why is an underage Brooke Shields in the thumbnail?
4:12 Wtf?! You just blew right by that so I had to rewind it to see if I heard that right.
Damn! Connie!!
😹
Yeah! Sweet Connie!!!!💯
I love 💘 Connie Hamzy! The ultimate groupie!
You missed Nancy Spungeon
Yes those were the carefree days where you can get away with anything. Now you have the internet where people can dig up shit.
Actually...I'm not even a groupie. My aunt's boyfriend was in a band when I was a teenager. My friend's step dad was also in a band. My friend and I and her mom were all called groupies back in the 80s and 90s but we weren't. Lol
When you said Anita Pallenberg slept with the holy trinity of Rolling Stones, you showed a picture of Ron Wood, not Brian Jones.
You didn't mention that Pamela des Barres aka Pamela Miller actually nabbed herself a rocker, not a major one, but still she was married to British actor/rocker Michael Des Barres! They have a son together as well, Nicholas.
Her first book "I'm With the Band" got optioned by Hollywood, (someone cut her a huge check), but so far nobody has ever made it...that is made the movie.

I think he just realised he was as dumb as her...............silver head,......sixteen and savaged........suttle......maybe not,........l saw them live at London's màrquee.......... QQ
I know Penny Trumbell aka Penny Lane. My husband went to elementary school with her.
Favorite concert was Steve Miller Band. I saw them 3 times. And they never let me down. And the whole groupie thing always made me sad. Like how broken must you be to allow yourself as a person to be passed around from band member to band member or even band to band. It seems like it requires some pretty low self esteem or like you hate your parents so hook up with as many musicians as you can. Sad stuff for sure.
I said you were clever...........l think some people are a little envious............
Mine too! I still have the ticket stub from the Wings Stadium concert on Earth Day in Kalamazoo. That was the first time I was passed a joint up in the bleachers during a concert.
@@ElizabethT45
Lol me too!!! I had smoked before in a private place. But YES!!! I had my first public joint at a Night Ranger concert. And I was really scared that the group of us or just I would get busted and in trouble. But the security guy saw us mid puff puff pass and he literally put his hand up to his eyes to shield seeing what we were doing. That was another awesome concert. After that I never got scared smoking during any huge event. Chances are they don’t care unless you are acting like a idiot.
I think a lot of them saw it as liberation. The women felt they were adding notches to their belts, just like men do. And they probably had some fun.
@@maryallison0509
So funny....you comment on women having low self esteem to allow themselves to be passed around.
Then you talk about smoking joints.
People with low self-esteem need to hide behind drugs and alcohol excess.
You forgot Lori Mattox. She was kne of the famous groupies back in the day.
she made false accusations for money and her story always changed. she deserves to be forgotten
Agree. I went to high school with her.
@@stanbritneyspears5659 No, Page should be in prison, victim blamer.
@@stanbritneyspears5659 That's funny that people are saying she made false statements. I kind of always doubted her claim that she lost her virginity to David Bowie, especially because he was with people like Lulu, Liz Taylor and May Pang. In other words, non-groupie women in the industry. My then bro-in-law was his agent. And, we couldn't get anywhere near him. He had a big bodyguard posted outside his dressing room door during the Diamond Dogs tour. But, this was in '74, on the East coast.
Thats’s Marianne Faithfull at 3:40

Yes I noticed that. I think the video also said she died in 2009; she died in 2017.
