One time he was staying at a hotel in East Hartford and I got to meet him and offer him suggestions where to visit over across the river in Hartford. I also got his autograph. I love it.
poor guy collapsed of a heart attack in '96 doin a show about an hour north of my town. He had a legendary personna. Almost like Andy Kaufman in the sense that you were better to enjoy him vs trying to understand him. R.I.P. Tiny Tim
How can you not be happy for him Rags to riches story. Odd character but beloved by many none the less. Thanks for bringing, if only for a short time, a little joy to the world.
While working in midtown Manhattan, late 70's or early 80's, I had the great surprise to encounter Tiny Tim as he carried a bag of groceries! Apparently he lived right there on Lexington Avenue below 42nd St. Of course in NYC you do occasionally bump into famous people, but this is one I will never forget!
His act seemed so strange in it's time- people didn't know wether to take him at face value or as maybe some kind of parody. It's amazing to see him here, out of character he seems like such a gentle soul and down to earth person. The way he describes his experience before becoming popular sssounds like the story of a struggling aspiring musician. It's easy to imagine from seeing this that under maybe different circumstances or at a different time he might have become a serious mainstream musician. Herbert Buckingham Khaury; I'm gonna see what wikipedia has on him.
"Out of character" could explain why, in a couple of interviews etc. such as this one, he looks people in the eye and when answering, his gaze seems quite normal. Whereas in newer interviews (especially those from the 1990s) he rolls his eyes around a lot, which would look quite scary if you weren't familiar with his character. Here he seems almost normal -and I also read some comments where people stated having had the chance to meet him and he seemed just normal to them. Perhaps that's what fascinates me the most in him -who was he really, besides being a very talented musician? :)
Despite his fame as a "novelty act", Tiny Tim was actually a very competent and serious musician and a scholar on popular music from the early twentieth century. He was also a very humble, sincere, and polite person - that was not an act.
I had seen him on _Laugh-In_ and took a chance on his first album. I was just a kid, so that was a big purchase for me. But it paid off - great album, well-produced.
I just did a little bit of research, and Bennett Cerf, who was one of the original panelists, passed away the year before this episode was aired. I think Bennett was my favorite panelist in all the time I've watched this show, and I'm so glad that Tiny Tim made an appearance. May they all rest easy. This has to be one of my favorite shows of all time.
I'm wondering WHY no one ever thought to do a Bio Pic of him,as was done about Andy Kaufman?...WHO could they get to play the role, who possibly could Sing like T.T ???
I love him ❤
One of my favorite appearances of his 🌷❤

Tiny Tim was really a beloved character of that era.
I loved Tiny Tim so much and cried when he died. RIP, dear sweet man.
Such a genuine, polite individual. RIP Tiny.
So glad I got to see him in a small club and spend some time talking with him afterwards. As nice as he seemed.. Miss him.
Tiny Tim, the unforgettable pop countertenor.
Ele estava lindo ❤❤❤

He looks great here and sang spur of the moment, delightfully! I like him always have, as so many others.

Tiny Tim would have been 92 years old this year.
And married to a 17 year old, have it his way.
@@spoons250 excuse me?
his first wife was 17 when he married her.@@marvinthemaniac7698

God bless him I've not seen him in over 40 years but never forgot him... ❤

Brilliant!
God Bless Tiny Tim
Virtuoso
Theres something a bit "Tim Burton" about him
The same thing I was thinking!
Is that David Cassidy dad??
That's the story
That's the story
Apparently so.
Yes. He died not long after this in a fire.
Anita Gillette is still around (9/9/24).
Why can’t the panel hear the guest?
Jack Cassidy, Tiny Tim, and Larry Blyden all died horribly.
sPIT IT OUT jACK.
Poor Jack left this earth in a not too pleasant manner.
I can't believe he married 17 year old girl
ELVIS did worst , started a relation when the girl was 14 and marry her some years later
@@res9249 And Jerry Lee Lewis married his own 13 year old cousin
And Herb had the permission of Vicki's parents to marry her.
First I’ve heard of this. Where did you read that. Is it from his autobiography?
