There were lots of Connie's in Rock and Roll's heyday, they just didn't talk about it in public like she did. One famous rocker wrote in his book that in towns all over America, when his band was on tour, mothers would bring their daughters and they both would do the back stage encores . The women would say that they would never do these things normally but because the band was famous they were willing to whatever. Don't judge this lady too much , she was only one of many.

In 1987 after a show by a famous band from Philly, I was approached by a roadie after the show with a backstage pass. Since my friend wasn't given one, she threw a hissy fit and said she wouldn't leave me there, so I didn't go backstage. Two years ago I put a comment with the story on one of their youtube videos. The bass player replied that it was him who sent out the pass. We connected on FB after that and he described exactly what I looked like back then. He remembered me because he left the band a few months later and most girls did go backstage when I didn't. He also told me what went on back there after shows but he wasn't like that, we probably would just have made out. So not every guy wanted the services that Connie provided.

In 1972 I went backstage at Frank Zappa's Mother's concert at the Oval in London. Tony Duran, the slide guitarist, a very handsome Mexican, put his hands commandingly around my neck, looked hard into my eyes and ran off a eulogy about their beauty and what ends he would go to in order to employ me as his secretary. (I was working for FZ at the time). When I expressed remorse to Jay, the road manager, he said, ‘Don’t feel sorry for Tony. He scores every night, each night a different chick. All the other guys in the band are jealous. They keep trying to score but they don’t make it. Only Tony scores so don’t feel sorry for him.’ Two hours later, one of the girls, Lixie - a groupie who knew many guys in bands, including Tony Duran - arrived. Jay said, ‘I feel sorry for her. Last night she was with Tony, the night before with Fred and tonight she’s with Jim.’ He shook his head despondently. I jumped to her defence and surprised myself. ‘Why do you feel sorry for her? She’s doing the same as Tony. Every night he’s with a different chick and you say he scores. Yo ho for Tony. But Lixie, you feel sorry for. Why? How do you know she isn’t having a good time, too? Why is she spoken of in derogatory terms?’

She never had a job that produced that kind of money. As a matter of fact, I as well as others, would buy her drinks occasionally when I saw her out upon request. She really was broke. She really was a sweet person as you see here. She admits freely that relationships were near impossible for her for obvious reasons. We never quite understood her path in life but as you see life was that simple to her.

Unless they themselves are perfect people, they can sit down and keep their mouths shut. She never harmed anyone, she was just doing what she wanted. Little Rock Rhonda here!
Connie Hamzy, " Sweet Sweet Connie" died at age 66 in Little Rock, Arkansas August 21, 2021. She lived in a very small home about 600 square feet in a bad part of Little Rock, Arkansas. Too bad GRAND FUNK RAILROAD didnt give her royalties from that song so she could live a better life. The last 15 years of her life were fraught with bad bad health!
Not only did she groupie Rock Bands but think about President Bill Clinton.Yep! Connie's parents both pre-deceased her and she was an only child at her death. I think she has a few living cousins in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Connie was a substitute teacher for the Little Rock school distric for 11 years. Connie basically died destitute.
