i went and bought a storage unit today at an auction. it had 3 xbox 360s in it. when i got home to test them, they all had the red ring (disappointment set in). found this video... and gave it a try. well... IT FREAKIN WORKED! I'm mind blown right now that something so simple would fix ALL 3! GREAT VIDEO MAN AND THANKS FOR THE POST!
Your video doesn't fix the issues at all, especially since Microsoft added thermal protection to the 970 CPU inside it(basically a G5). The proper way to fix this is to open up the case, get to the heat sinks, remove them and the xclamps, burn ur x clamps, then wrap the board in tinfoil except for where the gpu and cpu is, put it in ur oven which should be preheated to 400F, cook it for 7 minutes, then pull it out, and put it over a pan, press the 2 heatsinks back down on ur board so it holds the cpu and gpu against the board, hold it for 5 minutes, then remove all the tinfoil, reapply thermal paste and put the heatsinks back on, on the back do not reuse the xclamps u just burned. buy a hardware set(you'll have to look up the sizes, i forgot them) to mount the heatsinks using 2 plastic washers and a short screw(with bolt threads that will fir the original mounts for the stupid xclamps). Now you are basically done. Final mod is to snip the 12V wires from the fans and run them to the tip of the front VRM in the XBOX under the cdrom and solder it to the board, which forces them to run at full rpm. This is how i've fixed the 62 or so xboxes i've had in my doors. if you actually are gonna do this, contact me or look up the baking procedure. the board does have to be out of the tray and everything possible removed before baking.
Roney Jenkins i no longer publicly repair them, otherwise it was a 20$ charge if succeeded. You pay shipping to and from. I'll pay return shipping if failed unless shipping is over 20$
Bait28 you are right on one side and wrong on other side.. I fixed my xbox without opening it. I just blocked the fans and let the xbox get to 2 lights. Let it few more seconds and turned it off.. I waited to cool down and it worked..
Alex Stava I'm am not wrong, Mutiple XBOX's now thermally protect and won't allow you to use this method, The method i described is more effective and much better, nonetheless if you didn't replace your x-clamps, it's only gonna die again,
Interesting people are still spouting this bullshit, the motherboard not unlike a tower board has thermistors next to the CPU/GPU and if you stop the fan from running you will just trip the thermal protection, if you kept on doing it the internals of the CPU/GPU would thermally fail and you would never get it to work again! The supposed fan trick is to let it overheat to the point that the solder melts and causes the chips to conduct again. The chips are the things that you are attempting to generate the heat and at heats around 100 degrees you will destroy the chip (solder melts at nearly 180 degrees), so good luck with that. If you did get it to work its a fluke, but this is very bad advice! [Source: I've been a electrical engineer since the late 90's) P.S: also Bait28 in solder reflow ovens the manufacture used when they surface mounted the chips, the equipment they used contained cooling for the chips so they didn't burn out due to excess heat, also the reflow ovens they used are generally quicker than you can ever achieve with a conventional oven, so shoving the motherboard as you stated in a oven for any extended time without extra thermal protection for the chips and transistors (which are extremely temperature sensitive), you will just ruin the main board without a chance in hell of ever getting it to work again! Don't keep on recycling false knowledge that is made by people (trolls) that don't have a clue what they are on about and do some research (if it sounds dumb, it probably shouldn't be done!)
pwaaah ha ha haaaaa I hope your joking. that case would never hold water. that's like jumping off a bridge cause dude told you it would stop the voices in your head. an then getting mad cause you listened.

both the towel trick and this trick are really stupid, you are going to damage the GPU/CPU with this method because you are overheating it. I don't understand why you are all like "you can do this without voiding your warranty" what is the point in caring if you void the warranty or not in the first place if you are not going to actually you know..... use the warranty....
j4728 Yes but still, what is the point in worrying about voiding your warranty if you are never going to use the warranty, the thing is this puts a lot of stress on the hardware and could even end up completely frying your components, either take it apart and do it properly or send it in.
this worked for my xbox after about 20 times trying over and over. eventually it got hot enough to repair the heat sink issues. Now my xbox works fine after 3 years sitting with a red ring of death! Thanks dude!
+Jeff Turner if you still get RROD . turn it off , wait a few seconds, then press the Open Tray button AND the Power Button at the same time. That's a permanent fix.

This is a trash tutorial on how to fuck up your xbox even more....
Worked for black XBox 360 that I got from friend. Following your instructions waited for 5,5 minutes and then only 2 red lights were on and after that let it to cool down. After powering up everything is working just great!
U know it easyer to take it apart and dust it. It work for me and I haven't had a problem for 2 years since. Now I just got to reset it like this guy and clean it again
I just tried this trick, and it worked. I had three red rings, and followed the instructions. After the 360 cooled down, I turned it on. I booted up like normal. I got a white screen that informed me about the use of the fan, etc. I hit the A button, and I'm back to the 360 main menu. So this worked for me. Whether I long it will last, that remains to be seen.
Right, i just tried this - put em in till half a red circle remains (bout 5 mins) - then let it cool off for 20, and it works again like a charm - thanks alot, blew my mind that it worked
well it actually worked, I was nervous and payed super close attention to when it overheated so that I unplugged it immediately! also I would definitely recommend you make sure your xbox has a LOT of ventilation or even a little fan to blow on it from here on out, if its happened once, it can happen again even easier.l
This video turned my paper weight into an Xbox again. YAY!! Mine only took 2 minutes to kick over from General Hardware Malfunction to right as rain. I almost used it to catch some .308 rounds this past summer, now I have (2) 360 elites...... Home head-to-head tournament time.
It Works! You just had to give it sometime for it to process the heat so the ring has no way to process inside the xbox so it can die inside the process of the heat. Nice Strategy Fella!
Just tried what i seen.... the song was not terrible I enjoyed it. I did the steps at the same time as the video i found myself freestyling along with the beat it helped pass time
Tried this tip about 20 minutes ago and it actually worked on an Xbox 360 I was going to throw away but decided I had nothing to lose.So thanks hopefully it works for a while and thanks for giving it a little more life may just use it for DVDs .Again thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for this. I received an update from Rockstar for GTA V and it caused my xbox to crash. At first it was just one ring, then it became three. When I called Microsoft/Xbox, not only did they run me around in circles for about an hour, they told me that I'd have to pay $119 and wait for 6-8 weeks for it to be returned. I just bought a 3 month gold, and it's not like my xbox just expired. I didn't even bother arguing because the person on the phone is just doing what they're told.
Hey just a heads up guys I tried this trick (I have great patience) and it actually took 20 mins instead of 6 for me to get only 2 red lines but other than that let it cool and your good to go! :-) thanks a lot!!!
This worked for me! Thanks so much for uploading this! (Not to sound ungrateful because I am anything but, but let's just say the song was not as good as the repair advice so you may want to find another selection or skip it all together next time.)
This worked great!! Two questions though.. 1. How long will this fix work? Do I just do the trick again if it happens again? 2. I bought an aftermarket Intercooler that supossidly keeps it cooler, could this contibute to the problem? Any replys would be greatly appreciated!!
Wow... a guy who threw away an XBOX 360 PRO just because of this problem. And now the XBOX he threw away is MINE!!! :D Now all I need is AV cables and a control! :D THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!
Do not use those aftermarket cooler things that stick on the back, they actually cause more problems than they do good. I had one melt down my power cord plugin to the back of my xbox. The fans in the xbox already vent the heat, the intercoolers that stick on the back just create more.
Works in some cases, but not all. Some rrods are false alarm, basically the xbox thinking it has something that it hasnt, but all youre really doing there is preventing the rrod from showing and tricking it into thinking it hasnt, but if something has actually gone wrong inside then it will just come back
It works on some issues. But do a check for what kind of error code it is so you dont harm if beyond conventional repair. If your warrenty is void you may have to do a self repair. This is a temporary fix. I've done it three times but it didnt permanently fix mine.
+XxprodigyxXgaming I am a Licensed Electronics Repairman with Extreme Background and schooling in component level electronics repairs and I am telling you hear and now there is no difference and this trick will remove any possible repair even from someone like me! Learn the truth Visit my channel and if its to late for your system NO PROBLEM I giveaway Game Systems and even Cash on my channel to help you get a new system!!! just click my channel name.
+XxprodigyxXgaming Yes it will, and each and every time you do it (Let me guess it lasts less and less time) Why? Because this is not a Reset, it is a "powered Re-flow" Each and every time you do that to your system it causes more 60 times and more crystallization of the solder below your CPU and GPU Chips Eventually it will not work any more and Now you just removed all possibility of a Actual lasting repair by any Qualified Repairman and I am not talking about Microsoft they do not do repairs.
+XxprodigyxXgaming No problem, just please do not rip some poor kid off by saleing them that box after doing this to it, its not nice and this world has enough assholes, we do not need anymore. Note: I give Away Game Systems and will have some Brand new Game system Giveaways posted very soon on my channel anyone can win, No lottery, No random picks! all you need to do is watch the video show up at the date and time and you can claim it. open the unit and remove both heat sinks clean the bottoms of the heat sinks an put some thermal paste on them and put them back on leave the fans unplugged and let the xbox heat up for about 5 min. the shut it off and let cool should take care of the problem
This works but only temporary, I've tried this years ago just about the same time everyone commented on here. I have a original Xbox 360 rn but a refurbished one. Getting a refurb is kinda worth it even though it's expensive.... These days it still operates fine even with the same chipset as the rrod ones
RROD is the reason i became a pc gamer. better graphics, not alot of updates, and it always work. it's more expensive but free to play online and the games a cheaper.
Could be that your cable isn't plugged in properly. U can take the xbox apart and check if all the wires are right. If that's not it maybe one of those wires is broken. What you can do is buy a new fan and install it but make sure its the right one because different xboxes have different fans
if you "fix" it and then resell your only passing on a red ring system to someone else. the gpu reball entails replacing the gpu chip and replacing the solder under the chip with leaded solder (instead of the unleaded solder microsoft uses)....not only does it fix the rrod, but it will never come back either. However, it is pricey (usually about $70-$100)...and not many people do it. you need an expensive reball machine to do this fix.
I have done this like 3 times and mine works!! i also blew hard into the vents to flush out any dust and things and it works. hoping to get it to always work!! got the xbox for free!!
My 360 had no video or audio (not RROD), so I thought I'd try this method to get it working again ...and it worked first time! YAY! ...Unfortunately, after leaving it to cool down, within 10 minutes of switching it back on, the TV screen had red and green strips tearing across it, and it died again. So, I tried this method again. And... nothing doing. Seems like my old 360 has finally had it. :-(
This actually DOES work for 99% of al cases of the RROD. Reason why is because microshit used low-quality solder which develops cracks after a couple of years of usage. Making this box overheat will make the solder start to melt a little bit and makes it fill the cracks which commonly solves the error. Cases where it doesn't work is where you overheat it too long, the solder melts and short-circuits on some places. This does remove the possibility of lasting repair, doing it correctly doesn't.
didnt think it would work but it did...thanks for the info...the only thing keeping me from giving you a thumbs up is that terrible music you made me sit through during the video. but i do thank you for the help with my RRoD
I did this method, and indeed it did make the Xbox 360 work again... However, the next time I tried to use my Xbox again it was back to not fully booting, tried it again and again it worked, then again 2 days later it wouldn't boot up, did that about 4 times in total and unfortunately on the 4th time it simply doesn't do it anymore and won't heat it up enough to make it warp back to touching what needs to be touched. The only option now is to simply take it all apart, put in some spacer washers and maybe some new X braces to accomodate for the past 7 years of the thing running hot.
I fixed mine by turning it off then back on again.Pure skills.

I tried everything else except this. This looked too easy to work. It worked in 2 minutes flat. 2 freakin minutes. Thank you for posting this.
This is how i've fixed the 62 or so xboxes i've had in my doors.
if you actually are gonna do this, contact me or look up the baking procedure. the board does have to be out of the tray and everything possible removed before baking.
how much do you charge to fix one

When I called Microsoft/Xbox, not only did they run me around in circles for about an hour, they told me that I'd have to pay $119 and wait for 6-8 weeks for it to be returned. I just bought a 3 month gold, and it's not like my xbox just expired. I didn't even bother arguing because the person on the phone is just doing what they're told.
Hey just a heads up guys I tried this trick (I have great patience) and it actually took 20 mins instead of 6 for me to get only 2 red lines but other than that let it cool and your good to go! :-) thanks a lot!!!
As soon as you get RROD unplug the power plug.
Worked for me.
This worked for me! Thanks so much for uploading this!
(Not to sound ungrateful because I am anything but, but let's just say the song was not as good as the repair advice so you may want to find another selection or skip it all together next time.)
Seen this 5 years ago and tried it… my brother uses it now and it’s still running
Your a life saver man thanks my Xbox works now was just about to buy a new one tomorrow now I don't have to thanks :)
You are a legend bro and nice tunes!!!! people are just haters forget them for giving them free advice!!!!
Music made my ears bleed but the trick worked.
Less than 2 minutes
(barely enough time to heat up)
Good **** -Thanks man.
so far 3 out of 4 worked, so happy.. thanks for the video!
I cant believe this worked so well, thanks boss
Do not use those aftermarket cooler things that stick on the back, they actually cause more problems than they do good. I had one melt down my power cord plugin to the back of my xbox. The fans in the xbox already vent the heat, the intercoolers that stick on the back just create more.
You sir, are a GOD! It turned on after the allotted time!!! I'll fully test later on.
Works in some cases, but not all. Some rrods are false alarm, basically the xbox thinking it has something that it hasnt, but all youre really doing there is preventing the rrod from showing and tricking it into thinking it hasnt, but if something has actually gone wrong inside then it will just come back
the good old days xbox fooling around i really really miss em days
did it really work for you?? what happens if you turn it off and back on do the lights still come on or does it work?
It works on some issues. But do a check for what kind of error code it is so you dont harm if beyond conventional repair. If your warrenty is void you may have to do a self repair. This is a temporary fix. I've done it three times but it didnt permanently fix mine.
Thanks so much dude. This actually works!!! It only took like 3 minutes for mine to heat up.
+TheHGCGamersClub my Xbox has gotten the red rings 3 times and this resets it every time
+XxprodigyxXgaming Yes it will, and each and every time you do it (Let me guess it lasts less and less time) Why? Because this is not a Reset, it is a "powered Re-flow" Each and every time you do that to your system it causes more 60 times and more crystallization of the solder below your CPU and GPU Chips Eventually it will not work any more and Now you just removed all possibility of a Actual lasting repair by any Qualified Repairman and I am not talking about Microsoft they do not do repairs.
+TheHGCGamersClub eh, I'm getting a one soon anyway. This was just to hold me out until then
+XxprodigyxXgaming No problem, just please do not rip some poor kid off by saleing them that box after doing this to it, its not nice and this world has enough assholes, we do not need anymore. Note: I give Away Game Systems and will have some Brand new Game system Giveaways posted very soon on my channel anyone can win, No lottery, No random picks! all you need to do is watch the video show up at the date and time and you can claim it. Consider stopping by just to check out what I have listed so fare and remember I plan on having as much as 30 different giveaways listed by the end of this mouth.
this guys a legend tryed it and it worked in 5 mins
Did u do it to reset ur xbox, or to prevent it from getting overheated?
open the unit and remove both heat sinks clean the bottoms of the heat sinks an put some thermal paste on them and put them back on leave the fans unplugged and let the xbox heat up for about 5 min. the shut it off and let cool should take care of the problem
This works but only temporary, I've tried this years ago just about the same time everyone commented on here. I have a original Xbox 360 rn but a refurbished one. Getting a refurb is kinda worth it even though it's expensive.... These days it still operates fine even with the same chipset as the rrod ones
If it works for others then idk, not everyone's rich though 🤷♂️
Thanks for this! Raised a box from 2005 back from the dead.
IT WORKS! as of yet im unaware of how long it will last for but it works!
if you "fix" it and then resell your only passing on a red ring system to someone else.
the gpu reball entails replacing the gpu chip and replacing the solder under the chip with leaded solder (instead of the unleaded solder microsoft uses)....not only does it fix the rrod, but it will never come back either. However, it is pricey (usually about $70-$100)...and not many people do it. you need an expensive reball machine to do this fix.
thanks man mine took a little longer than 5 minutes to heat up but it still worked
Thanks man!!! My got fixed been an hour while i'm playing so it works
thank u so much i had a 6 year old xbox 360 just siting around it had the rrod for about 3 years i did this and its fixed thank you bro
I WAS SO SHOCKED THAT IT WORKED OMGI CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH! WOO!
Thanks it worked ! It's faster than doing a reflow on a PS3
Maaaan, You don't know how much you've helped me! Thank you so much!!
didnt think it would work but it did...thanks for the info...the only thing keeping me from giving you a thumbs up is that terrible music you made me sit through during the video. but i do thank you for the help with my RRoD
Thank you! :) You saved my Xbox 360 game console! It really worked!
I have two RROD xbox 360 and this trick worked on one but not the other.
if it dosent work you have to do it constantly, took me like 11 tries but at the end it worked.
Dude you saved me $75 bucks!!! Thanks a bunch
The only option now is to simply take it all apart, put in some spacer washers and maybe some new X braces to accomodate for the past 7 years of the thing running hot.
would it speed it up if you combine this trick and wrap it with three towels????????????????????
