Hello, great video. there's definitely more than 8 cultivars you missed some great ones, Like amerishade, Delmar, citrus blue, delta shade, Captiva, sapphire and my favorite one Texas Native St Augustine. First time here keep up the great work bud
You are absolutely right. I corrected myself at the end. But I should of at the beginning as well. These are the 8 most popular in Florida. I got a little over excited. Thank you for bringing this up.
Maybe I need to do a part 2 with these types.
Great comment!!👍
A question, friend, I live in the state of TX, for you, what is the best brand of grama san agustin?
“Raleigh” should probably be pronounced like the name “Molly” but with an “R” - like the way the city where NC State is is pronounced. Thanks for the informative video. Looking for information on Tamstar St Augustine, but looks like its so new that no one has any info on it. Our local sod supplier carries it.
Same here… Tamstar was the only thing I could find locally in Greenville, SC
This video was very informative. I thought there was only of type of St Augustine grass. I like that your were able to show the different varieties unlike some other videos I watched...Thank you.
Very good information.
Thank you Chadd 👍👍👍👍 this was the informative video I was looking for
No problem!! I'm glad I could help!!
Thanks Chad! I’m trying to recuperate my St. Augustine from the invasion of local “sweet grass” through stolon growing in a hill. Wish me luck! Cheers from Costa Rica!
Thank you for making this video!
You are welcome!! Thank you for the support!!!
RALOOO!!!!
Thanks Chad! I’m trying to recuperate my St. Augustine from the invasion of local “sweet grass” through stolon growing in a hill. Which me luck!
Great video ol son.👌🙌
Thank you!!
Informative. Thank you.
No problem!!
Another great video, thanks, Chad! You should make a prepare, lay and treat new sod video at some point 👍🏼 not much out there for St Augustine.
This is a great idea. I will add this to my board of videos!!!
Ra-looooooo!
🤣🤣 🤙
Great video. Just resodded my whole house with scotts provista st agui and man what a diff from my floratam
After doing my research for this video the provista and Citra blue looked to be the best looking St.augustine by far!!! The type of St.augustine makes a huge difference. Floratam seems to be very high maintenance and very average looking.
All my other viewers love thier pro Vista. Enjoy your new lawn!!
Thanks for the comment and support 👍
Where are you located? I'm in Dallas, TX.
Great info thanks. I am going to do a full reno on my front yard in Crystal River. I am leaning towards citra blue because I love the color, it is as salt tolerant as the other st augustines?
I believe all hold similarly salt tolerance unless I said otherwise. But you are not directly on the beach you should be good to go.
Citra blue is beautiful and was one of my favorites as well.
Thanks for the comment and support 👍
How about St. Augustine Harmony? Is it heat and drought resistant?
Can you do a video on Citra Blue? Best way to prep for laying the sod , best soil for it and how to prevent thatch ? I’m in Jacksonville Florida and have very sandy soil. Thanks !
A lot of sod farms are ditching Cirta Blue for being so problematic!! One thing I know is it definitely needs good soil.
Raloooo 😆
I have Floratam which seems to have the fungus you were talking about. If I use plugs or even a piece of sod of another St. Augustine type grass will it take over or even help?
Probably not!! Floratam is a good type as well. When you mix, it can be harder to have a nice even color and growth lawn.
We are getting ready to sod CitraBlue and are on a barrier island near Cocoa Beach. We have a sandy soil and our well water is sulfur heavy.. will Citrablue be ok with the sulfur water shallow well? thanks
It should be. That's a tough area to grow grass so make sure to on top of the grass when it is first installed.
Hi Chaad. So I am still new with taking care of my grass. I was trying to figure out my grass type. The Home Depot and Lowe’s stores where I purchased my grass says they carry “Harmony” grass? I do not see it listed in your list from your video. Have you heard from this type of grass?
Harmony is the company that grows the grass. Try going to a local nursery for better and more information.
I see ok thanks!
Hey Chad, thanks for all the great information! Perhaps you can help me and making a decision. I am wanting to sod my backyard in St. Augustine because I absolutely love the way it looks. However, I have 2 dogs a border collie mix and a chocolate lab 😂😊. This will be a high traffic area where they run and play. Before I invest in doing this. Should I reconsider and possibly go with a type of Bermuda instead in your opinion? Thanks for your help. Also if Saint Augustine still is a good choice, which type would you recommend? I live in Alabama. Yard is mostly sunny, one shade tree. Thanks for all you do😁
St.augustine is the worst traffic grass, and bermuda is some of the best. Recommend doing research on the care for bermuda in your area. The bermuda will be more maintenance.
Floratam St.augustine is the way to go for type of St.augustine.
@@bettercallchadd Hi there, thanks for your response. After researching it, I believe I have decided to go with something called celebration Bermuda . It is able to tolerate a little bit of shade high traffic and has a rich dark green with a blue hue to it. Doing soil preparation this weekend. Having it delivered next week. Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it
@@chrisjennings1384
Hi , I have Bahia grad and was thinking about Bermuda.. let me know how you make out with your Celebration Bermuda.. Thank you
I was imagining you, spinning the record you had playing in the background, at a hopping club? Is that weird?
Maybe I should be a part-time DJ?!?!
Which types do best in shaded areas?
Palmetto is one of the best.
How do I find out which at Augustine grass I have
Some types have different grow patterns then others but thw only true way would get a lab to test it. That's the only guaranteed way to know.
Which type is the one that grows the tallest ?
I believe that's floratam, but I'm not 100% sure.
Great information!! Now,,,,, how in the world do I find out what kind of St Aug grass do I have? Do I take it to a lab?
You would have to take it to a lab, local agency, or university.
@@bettercallchadd thank you. I learned much with this video.
@chet3louisiana558 happy to hear. Check out my other vidoes if you want to learn more.
What grass type has the same or similar texture as St. Augustine? I am looking for something that can be seeded! I live in Austin, TX
and really appreciate the video, super informative!!!
Thank you for the compliment. I really appreciate it.
Thier is nothing that is close to the St.augustine texture that grows by seed other then crabgrass but you don't want that in the lawn.
The best thing to seed would be bermuda but make sure that is right for your area and soil.
@@bettercallchadd thanks again!!!
So overall which is #1?
In my opinion and from my experience, floratam!!
Can I send you a photo of my St. Augustine grass to know what type it is....my extension office is useless :'(
Unfortunately, not. Can't be sure unless you get lab samples. I could guess, but it would only be a guess.
They all look the same to me, I still don't know if I have Floratam or St. Augustine.
Most are very difficult to tell between them.
But I am embarrassed to say but I live in texas but I have been having a lot of trouble with st agustin grass it was beautiful all of the sudden it started going skimpy.
Check out some of my other videos on the channel to see if they help. If not you can email me pictures and description and I will go over your email live Wednesday at 8pm!! I hope this helps.
