One thing I always wonder about is when is it not appropriate to use motion blur. Like when doing motion graphics and some 3d text flies in, sometimes readability takes a hit from it, the movement is probably more realistic with motion blur, but I keep wondering if there are rules/guidelines for this kind of thing.

So nice to hear from you :D
I think you brought up an interesting point here, text.
I think if readability is a must...then realism [as in motion blur] might have to go ;p
I am currently rendering speed and visual artifacts comparison between normal motion blur and vector blur, it will take an hour more, it will be uploaded soon after :D
      How have you been ?

@@BracerJack That is the conclusion I reached on readible titles and motion blur, but I still wonder whether there are any other corner cases or more formal rules around using motion blur. Good job running tests for denoising, motion blur, and other render features. I think its a great practice to play with these render features yourself to get a feel for them. One thing I've been meaning to check is AO pass vs AO on textures. Still don't have a good grasp on the tradeoffs there. There are a few subtleties I've learned from trial and error -- I usually want to exclude the HDRI environment from receiving an AO pass.
Have you lept into AgX color in Blender 4.0 yet? I enjoy colorist topics and I'm delighted to see the successor to Filmic Color. Blender now has rec2020 support although its still unclear to me whether Blender is internally calculating colors using wide gamut color or if its just transformed from sRGB/rec709 still. New principaled shader 2.0 also seems to be addressing some energy conservation issues.
I've been doing great. Just got back from a trip to Florida. Found 2 burmese pythons, a tokay gecko, went bully netting for spiny lobster, fishing for tuna, and ate a bunch of fresh tropical fruit. How are you doing Jack? Keeping busy?

@@technoendo Interesting that you suggest a comparison between the Ambient Occlusion pass vs Material Based Ambient Occlusion, it never crossed my mind to do that.
I think the reason was because for video rendering, I almost never use Ambient Occlusion anymore for...some...reason...hmmm...I wonder why...
But when rendering baked texture out for game engine, I use the Material Based Ambient Occlusion a lot, but yeah...never thought to compare.
Do you bring some of these animals home to care for them ? Or to the local shelter ?
I am alright I guess...trying to meditate more often, hoping to experience "Out of Body" experience someday.

I've used motion blur before. What is vector blur?

    • @BracerJack
      @BracerJack  9 месяцев назад +1

Short: Vector Blur is a way of adding back motion blur during composition using the compositor in Blender, it not "correct" compared to the motion blur you get when you simply check the motion blur check box.
The "wrongness" of the visual from vector blur will become obvious when you have object that overlaps and objects behind glass and stuff.
Full story: I have a folder consisting of Blender notes I have created over the years and I am doing some clean up, getting rid of notes that are outdated and I came across my notes for vector blur and I was like "yeah, I have not used it, don't think I ever will/want to, but let's follow the notes to see if the implementation is still the same as the notes" so here it is.

@@BracerJack I followed one of Ian Hubert's 1 minute tutorials on how to make a car chase. You end up with a lot of motion blur but the important thing I noticed was that when you have a moving background the accuracy of your models doesn't matter. I made a quick lamp post and never did I notice it in the final render and think 'I need a better lamp post model'. In a still shot it wouldn't have been anywhere near good enough.

      @@terryd8692 That guy is a legend !
You are right...I have never once say "wow, I am never watching that show again, it has got the WRONG motion blur".
You know what...that's it, I don't care about accuracy here anymore.
So now the question is...which is faster...
