The fact that Whitney, a petite black woman from Jersey, could captivate thousands of people [of all races] with just a spotlight and a mic is what makes her one of the greatest musical icons of all time.

+Grego Mask yes, but my comment was about the audience number in this performance here - there were thousands, not millions, of people watching her here. But yes, she was a global icon, and her fan base most definitely stretched into the millions.

I swear her live performances make me wanna cry every single time. The thing that separates Whitney from everyone else is the tone of her voice. There are singers with more power, hit higher registry’s and more technical but they don’t sound like Whitney. She is the perfect combo of head, chest, bravado, power, registers, riffs, runs, belts and transitions I think this world will ever see. She is the voice for a reason. That voice. What I like most about her voice is how clear each and every word sounded and her ability to hit and hold those long 10+ second notes and not miss a beat. She caresses the areas that need to be caressed and she tears up the areas that need to be to' up. Just little to no effort. Always going above and beyond what she did on record. She was truly unique and nobody has done or will do it better, period. Ridiculous performance.

Such a stunning version of one of her classic songs. This is probably one of the best examples of how dynamic and soulful her voice was. The tonality and clarity is unlike anything I have heard when it comes to pop music. I am always amazed to see how see informs and directs the musicians from the stage, she was not just a gifted singer but she truly understood her craft. No wonder she became a template for so many singers who followed her, male and female.
