I absolutely love the design of this one. I think they could knock off a 100m from the water resistance and reduce the dimensions down a bit. I think this would work better as a 40mm or possibly even 38mm. That Heinrich came to my mind straight away. I was blown away when I reviewed that one. I think they nailed the sizing on that one.
I really wish Phoibos would knock 100m off their WR and bring the dimensions down. This would look spectacular as a 38mm, as is it's just a bit too big in my opinion. Great review as always. 👍🏼
I love Phoibos! This one is fantastic in every way 70s and given 90% of my collection is 70s watches. However why did they not make it to 70s size??? Honestly would sell so much better if it was smaller. Most of these micro brands need to understand they are missing a trick by not making them a little smaller , us 50 year olds have the money to spend but don’t want massive watches.
Good comment! Maybe Phoibus sell loads to countries where large watches are sought after more (even for guys with smaller wrists). It is a shame that the size won’t look good on average size wrists though
Great comparison with the Heinrich. Not sure either is really my taste. I think that's something that's really useful, directly comparing watches with similar styles. Really helps with either broadening awareness of what's out there, or helping to decide which one to go for. Perhaps something you could do in future videos? E.g... a line-up of dual-crown divers.. a line-up of integrated bracelet sports watches... pilots watches... retro styled divers.. etc. etc. Actually, I'm really looking for a pilot style watch right now, so if you like the idea I wouldn't be opposed if you decided to start there 😉
Great video Jody. What I think this video demonstrates, and is sometimes overlooked, is... Ordering watches without trying them first is a major barrier for some potential collectors, as wearability is compromised by so many factors (case, end link, bracelet construction, clasp type, the list goes on). So a watch that looks at first glance like a buy it now becomes an eventual no-go. Total minefield.
Nice to see the Miyota instead of an NH35, the date at 6 looks better too. Not so sure about the dial texture, just looks scratched, they should do a sterile version, that octopus really is a deal breaker.
Wow, someone remembers the Commodore Amiga...The miracle of storing your programs on floppy disk, so you only had to type them in once...those were the days!
I actually like this a lot but you’re right, the bezel just needs a little more thought and slightly wider. I don’t mind the clasp, but a little more length is a nice to have. Love the bracelet too. Worth considering, but probably the green dial.
Morning Jody, I'm not sure about this, bit boxy? I'm also not a fan of how the bracelet integrates. But who the he'll am I? I'm just off yo the pool and the watch today is the Eagle Ray GMT.
I like the 6 o'clock date placement and the guardless crown. The bracelet, however, does look complicated. I would consider buying the green one, although the brown one is nice, too.
Looking at the comments, I think it's clear that there's something there to like, but it just doesn't quite complete the job for people. It's got a mish mash of ideas that aren't cohesive, and a range of features that are unfavourable. It looks good from a distance and the lume is nice, so that's, um, lovely I guess.
Its a good looking watch but I think they should have gone for a more PRX-style tapered bracelet. The square lugs look naked out there on their own. Just widening those initial links close to the lugs would have been a nice design touch.
Hey a little bit off topic but I'm wondering if you're going to be doing a review of the brand new seiko prospex turtle re-interpretation divers. I really want to pull the trigger on the spb317 but I'm probably going to wait until more videos come out. Anyways I'm a long time fan of the channel and your reviews and opinions mean alot to me.
I'm with you.. there's a lot to like about the brand, but I'm still searching for one that I'd want to put my money on. This doesn't quite do it for me either, but getting there!
Narwhales are big guys, too 😄! Amazing dial texture - really artistic, but kind of diminished by the odd back story and this just-a-bit-too much-of-everything design and branding imho (not getting the Spectre/Hydra/Unicorn-of-the-sea-thing at all). Would love to see the dial in a more friendly habitat, though! Righteous review, man - thanks !
For me it's best Phoibos design, really like look of Narwhal, but yeah hope thay tweak it in the future with slighty longer minute hand, no-date option & maybe 1-2 mm less in size, especialy lug to lug, overall really like this watch.
found out about Phoibos from Jody several years ago... had my eye on an eagle ray GMT for a while but they were out of stock... i finally got mine last fall and i couldn't be more pleased! even used the JOMW10 discount code! thanks jody! meanwhile... i think the blue colorway of the eagle ray gmt which is the one i got might be out of production and is out of stock most places... phoibos has also pulled it off their website.... i have a feeling it is the end of the run for that model...
Geeky Grammar point: Octopus is from Greek rather than from Latin, so the plural is Octopodes not Octopi, although you are probably safer using the regular English plural, Octopuses.
Notice also on the Henrich it's a bright, gem looking dial. I looked at the Narwhal line and all the colors, including the green are sedate, muted, colors. Blech.
Looks great, only if it's smaller, 38mm case, 47mm lug to lug, 20mm band. 200m WR, NH35, 60% of the asking price, I will be jumping on it without looking back.
If Helm are the micro Rolex then Phoibus is the Ali Helm, love the logo and nearly bought the Wall. This is huge, which isn't vintage at all, love the brown too. Meanwhile Im saving for the new Seiko5gmt....
I'm right - handed so I wear my watches on my left wrist. if I put a watch on my right wrist it feels so strange and annoying that I can't leave it on there, even though its a much better fit than on the left side. Very strange!.
Nail, on the, proverbial head.....shall we say. Great job, Jody. I believe, this would be a winner, at say 39mm, or even 38mm, respectively. Scale it down, a bit. Keep up the good work.
I also wish they would scale down the sizes. I had a wavemaster v2 42mm. Very well made but the 300m wr made it around the same weight as this one so I recently moved it on.
That scoring on the dial would bug the hell out of me, especially since a couple of them look deeper than all the others. Other than this it's just the size that would put me off this.
There is a great deal about this watch that I like - a lot. The bracelet is very nice. I am not put off by the end link not matching the case. In fact I rather like that. The lume is awesome. Yes, it could benefit from more undercoating. The price is right about where it ought to be. Where I flip to the 'do not care for' side of the ledger is the case shape. I like a larger watch, but I prefer the size to be in the visible area of the actual timepiece - the watch face. This design has too much unnecessary case for me. Those corners are just begging to get smashed into something. So the case shape is, unfortunately, just enough to undo it for me.
I really hope that someone here on RUclips would like to review the new KULUZE Titanium Watch so i can find out if it its worth picking up in Aliexpress.
Can't get on with the case shape, too squared off and chunky...and I do like a big watch. Got the black and the blue versions of the quartz sub homage (PX002C and B) the only other Phoibos I've been really taken by is the Voyager...its on the Xmas list, but this one is a no from me. Oh yeah...not a fan of the date window at 6 either...picky bugger, aren't I 🤣
Speaking of octopuses, narwhals, and other water creatures, I hope that Jody isn't affected by the floods now hitting Sydney. Hope you and yours are OK!
Damn it, if you keep showing me the Heinrich then I’m going to have to buy one. Stop it! *lol* Nice review, random branding aside, I like this one a lot, the case has a great shape to it, and the dial is retro without being too gaudy, which is always a risk with a 70s aesthetic. Nice watch, nice in-depth review, thanks for giving me something fun to watch on a Sunday morning.
I need your help. Would anyone have a recommendation for a watch? It should have a diameter of 35-38mm and a maximum of 45mm lug to lug, have sapphire glass, 5-10bar, max. 10mm high and a quartz movement or solar with at least 5 years battery life. In terms of price, I imagine around €300. Visually, it should be sporty but also minimalistic. optics such as a gs 263 or rolex op / explorer1 or an omega aqua terra or something in the direction of the Bauhaus style. I hope for a few suggestions. (I already have a tissot prx35 and junghans milano solar would be an option, but maybe you can think of something else. Greetings from Germany
Kit above said the same thing, funny they started out with smaller sub homages, sometimes in quartz, even then they were quite cool
@@jamesblonde2271 I didn't even look at the other comments. I guess great minds think alike 😉
Agreed. 38mm with 20mm lug width and I’d grab one in a heart beat.
38mm? You should stick to ladies offerings.
@@neli5p what a big man Neil is.

My voyager is also "chunky" (300m nr35) if you've never worn it you shouldn't complain about it, it feels absolutely perfect on the wrist.
I have a 38mm CW Trident with 600m water resistance. Size is no excuse. It's completely irrelevant.
@@StuntpilootStef comparing a 38mm Christopher Ward to this is completely irrelevant
@@JulesBrunoJjBaggy I owned a Voyager. Way too big
The depth rating would have been inconsequential. They just wanted to make a boxy looking watch.
Got the same colour, and love it. 8.25" wrist and faultless. 1st Phoibos and very pleased. Can recommend for the more "developed" wrist,
I love Phoibos! This one is fantastic in every way 70s and given 90% of my collection is 70s watches. However why did they not make it to 70s size???

I tend to like their "Ladies" watches only because of the size 38mm
Great comparison with the Heinrich. Not sure either is really my taste.

I like it, I already have 3 Phoibos and I can’t justify to get that one too. The one with the blue dial is my favourite.
I have the Wavemaster and it's going to be hard for them to top this one. It's one of my favorites!
Fits perfectly on your left wrist imo. Looks great
The lume makes this watch; the best two colour lume I've seen to date.
It will suit some. Love the original design. I would be interested in a shrunken version.
I'd love to see them really embrace the disco with version 2. Maybe all stick indices (no rhombus) and a Malachite dial or a Timex Q Falcon Eye style.
Super cool looking! If they scaled it down a little bit I’d be all over it.
Great review and nice to see the HEINRICH Taucher at 13:17 ✌😀

It’s hard to top their Kraken model. I still love the uniqueness they bring to the watch world.👍🏻
I love you and all you do for us watch people Jody. But I can't spare any of that love for this one 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The closeup shots of the second hand sweep look fantastic.
Reminds me of the Sub 600T case. Looks like a hefty bit of kit and I like the date position.
Lovely looking Seamaster shom style case. Dial reminds me of a retro Orient.
Woot, woot, props for the Amiga T-shirt, we used to have one of those bad boys when I was a kid - a beast of a computer back in the day xD
Wow, someone remembers the Commodore Amiga...The miracle of storing your programs on floppy disk, so you only had to type them in once...those were the days!
Bought it in a heartbeat. I love it. Got the blue one without the fadium. It's fine.
I actually like this a lot but you’re right, the bezel just needs a little more thought and slightly wider. I don’t mind the clasp, but a little more length is a nice to have. Love the bracelet too. Worth considering, but probably the green dial.

The rectangular look looks nice and distinct off wrist but on wrist it seems really clunky. Thanks for the review again.
Possibly your best t shirt yet. I'm very jealous.
The minute hand is sooooo short that it disturbs me lol. I like the idea of the design though
I like it!! But I think that 2mm less would have better because their style.
Thanks for the review mate. I love it but wish it was a 39-40mm case.
I'm saving up for this one. I love how it looks.
Its a good looking watch but I think they should have gone for a more PRX-style tapered bracelet. The square lugs look naked out there on their own. Just widening those initial links close to the lugs would have been a nice design touch.
5:50 You should hear what narwhals say about the way we look. Suffice it to say humans do not appear on the face OR back of a narwhal’s watch.
As looks go, this is a winner. (Love the datewindow at 6). But a miss for me because of the lug to lug. 45mm is really my max.
I like it! I'm a sucker for a big chunky watch and with a seven and a half inch wrist this is right up my street.
I like this one alot, with a 7 and 1/2 wrist i should be fine but i would have liked if the crystal was more domed to look more 70s.
Is the case a little bit PRX?

Someone (presently) from Oz suggesting a Narwhal is an odd looking creature, I find hilarious. 😂 I do love the 'squareness' of this piece, though!

Nice. But... I'd prefer 39mm and solid polished prx-like bezel.
I like the Phoibos logo, as it makes me think I'm a SPECTRE operative. However, that block case looks like it forgot to go to the tailor.
I don't like the squared-off 70's style case. I guess I'm boring. Thanks for the video!

Loving the Amiga t-shirt 👍😆
Hey Jody, what have you been doing to increase your right wrist size by quarter inch????
Hope that you're taking some time to build an ark, Jody. Hear that there's a bit of weather in Sydney. Stay safe, brother!
Wet, wet, wet! I'm OK thanks mate, my area doesn't flood, but tough for the people who have now had this 4x in 18 months. Not good for the future!
The more you moved this watch around, the more I liked it.
Love the T shirt, still have one of those discs somewhere in the loft
It's certainly a looker
Handsome beast. The dial looks a lot like some Christopher Wards; is that what you had in mind, Jory? Thanks for the reviews!
It looks solid in every aspect (and I have a couple of other Phoibos watches), but that short minute hand just ticks my OCD to nosebleed levels.
I only buy in the 38-42 range but 42 is stretching it on a diver for me.
Good video, please make a locking clasp phoibos. Thanks
Hi Jody, not my cup of tea. I do think the bracelet design in 20 mil. could work for other future models. Regards
Great presentation! I am a big fan of this brand.

If Tim Mosso would review this watch, his recommendation would be that people with 13.5 cm wrists could wear it😁
I own the bronze leviathan. It is a large watch. I would much rather purchase a smaller version of this watch
Nail, on the, proverbial head.....shall we say. Great job, Jody. I believe, this would be a winner, at say 39mm, or even 38mm, respectively. Scale it down, a bit. Keep up the good work.

Size matters..masculine..not a whipping 39mm or 40mm dial
The second hand coulda looked like a narwhal tusk/tooth. Also, make it like 38 and it's a winner
Jody I like your new set up but you need to be lighted a bit more than the BG.
A watch travel case with only 1 place cut into it for a watch and 2 straps that are fit more for a strap.
Tenuous back story aside, it looks a nice thing.
When you said brown I imagined bronze, but that really is turd brown👌
They should do a turquoise color like the Doxa 600T. Cheers

Scratched up dial, that must be the same factory as the famous Guanqin watch brand👌
beautiful hands and 6 oclock date is awesome
Perhaps some day they will make some Titanium versions and put the sea animals on a diet.
What were they thinking? 41mm across with that case shape was always bound to appear huge… 🤔
