In this video, I explore what Pikmin would look like if it was made by Studio Ghibli. The scenes I recreate come from the films "Spirited Away", "My Neighbor Totoro", and "The Secret World of Arriety."

Olimar's notes: I often find myself daydreaming about what it would be like if I had befriended some other indigenous creature instead of the Pikmin. Imagine me, riding a Bulborb, hah! Maybe in my youth I could manage to wrangle one. Trying that today would surely have that beast buck me back to Hocotate, no ship parts needed! Though I know that's not possible. It really is lucky that I happened to crash on a planet inhabited by helpful carrot like creatures, and right next to them too. Oh great, now this picture is stirring up nostalgia too. I need to get back to work or the ship will tattle on me to the president again.
Ship's appraisal: Behold! The secret to ending your lonely life, held within a convenient frame for eternal studying. This wonderfully stylized depiction of friendship crossing the boundary of species shows that anything truly is possible. If someone out there can befriend a wild, exotic beast on a mostly uncharted planet, then surely you, yes even you, can find a friend as well. You'll need to purchase this treasure in order to look close enough and long enough to see the secret of how to do so of course.

Olimar's notes: Every time I find some piece of intricate art, I can't help but stop and wonder who, or what, made it. The subject of this picture would logically lead me to believe the Pikmin do it. However, my overactive mind keeps thinking there's some hidden greater intelligence lurking just out of sight, watching my every move, and planting these seeds of doubt along my path for me to "conveniently" stumble across just to drive me mad. Sometimes I even wonder if my actions are my own. If this clever entity can avoid even my infallible seasoned senses, then who's to say it can't just directly control me as well? I feel it could be watching me, even as I write this very passage... Good job Olimar. Who needs sleep anyway? I'll have to tap into my extra strength secret stash of Hot Cocoatate tonight.

Olimar's notes: This image quickly floods your thoughts with tremendously terrifying notions. Could giants really be walking among us? Beings so large we can't even perceive them within our current understanding of the universe. Even more troubling is that the giant depicted in this scene appears to be inspired by me! WHO IS MAKING THESE?! Are the Pikmin really far more intelligent than I thought? Perhaps even more than species like mine? Why would they draw me as such a gargantuan giant though? I'm only very slightly taller than them. Are they pulling inspiration from something else? Perhaps some kind of deity beast that rules this planet? I thought the Quagled Mireclops was enough already, but this art hints at something several times bigger than even that existing! Needless to say, I am deeply disturbed. As an adventurer at heart, I'd love to shout out that I'll get to the bottom of this perplexing mystery. Perhaps, however, this is one mystery I'd rather remain a mystery... PERMANENTLY!

Everyone from the most prestigious museum curators to the average fan of fantasy will be climbing over each other to grab this piece before anyone else. The Secret World of Arrietty is based on a 1952 British childrens book The Borrowers"(I believe the proper noun Borrower is even used in it), but it isn't impossible that Pikmin could have had some influence on the film.

These look incredible, and now i wonder what a Studio Ghibli Pikmin Movie would look like!
I mean, i've sadly never seen one, but the style of those things are just... wowie-zowie.
... though, now that i see this, i can 100% the Quaggled Mireclops in the style of Howl's Moving Castle.
It IS the biggest boss in the series, can easily have around 100 Pikmin on its back...
And in french, the Quaggled Mireclops is refered to as a "Foret Ambulante" in some of the notes, and Howl's Moving Castle is called "Le Chateau Ambulant", which mean "Traveling Forest" and "Traveling Castle" respectively...
I can just imagine a (surprisingly non-hostile) version of the Mireclops, with a bunch of random stuff on its back, kinda like the Moving Castle, carrying Pikmin and some Leaflings... maybe?
... I wonder what it would be called...

These look gorgeous. Picking a favorite is a hard choice but if I had to go with one it will be the Pikmin and young Olimar, tributing Arrietty the composition with the blurry background and beautiful foreground sold it for me.

I read somewhere on a Pikmin Wiki that one or some of the promo art has one or two names for the main protagonist in Pikmin 4. It was either Lisa or Emma.
'I know I haven't reached the greatness of those artists yet' my guy you're so modest considering how amazing you draw??? Your lush green foliage behind the purple pikmin and white pikmin looks so so amazing!!! Like!!! That's a delicious green forest right there!! Salad!!! It's honestly the most beautiful I am in awe and want to have that kind of beautiful confident lush background someday in my art. You're definitely what I'd strive for someday in my art
But these ghibli style paintings are so amazing!!! I don't even know how you'd come up with these ideas they're so unique, the Ariettie one was definitely my favourite the soft lighting and flowers was just absolutely gorgeous and soft and ough I'd watch a full movie made of that

I've actually been thinking a more Ghibli-inspired direction would be a fantastic direction to take Pikmin 5. I was thinking it could sort of be a fresh reboot/alternate universe for the series that's more about a young girl who finds herself suddenly shrunken and surrounded by fantastical creatures in her backyard garden. By collecting the macguffins, she could "wake up" normal sized in her bed again, perhaps in time for her brithday or something if you wanna have a soft day-timer for dandori gameplay. I just think a more serene and ghibli-esque whimsical story and aesthetic could potentially give Pikmin more popularity, as the space-explorer goofy space elf vibe we currently have is probably a bit alienating.
Furthermore, I think removing the space helmet motif from the main character and giving them a bit more normal proportions would probably let people identify more with the character, and really imagine themselves in the world as Pikmin. It's probably harder to identify with the weird little space suit gnome characters, and I imagine there would be a lot more broad appeal in just letting the player play as a more normal human that's thrust into the world of Pikmin and Bulborbs and Onions

These are so cool. I've never seen a studio ghibli movie before, but I've heard great things from them, I guess it's probably time I set some time aside to watch them. Also, I hate to be that guy, but I think it's pronounced "dan-del-fly" rather than "dan-der-fly." I'm so glad you included it though, it's definitely one of the most underrated pikmin creatures.

I Like the last one the best!
My new idea for a boss is called the Musseled shellusk. For its first phase you would see a large circular rock-like structure, and after getting close the top part will open revealing 3 tongue-like tentacles. Phase 2 is when it starts attacking, it will spin around slowly with its tentacles extended forward, snatching any pikmin that isnt fast enough to dogde the tentacles. Phase 3 is when you throw a bombrock to one of its tentacles damaging the boss revealing its eyes for phase 3 while simoltaneously getting faster, in this phase you need to attack both of its eyes to get it to have a tantrum and drop bombrocks and hazardous rocks. Phase 4 is when it gets even faster tricking you by constantly switching its tentacles from one side to another, otherwise it is still the same way to damage it. Thank you and i hope you will see this

On ProCreate’s Color Fill-if you hold the dropfill color over the area you want to fill, you can adjust the “fill sensitivity”. I’ve found that helps me force the fill to reach all the way to where I want it

It would be a boss fight, it would look like a giant wasp like creature and would have 6 arms and 2 knife like appendages to skewer pikmin, it would also have a stinger to spray small poisen streams like the man at legs, it would also have 2 big jaws to eat pikmin, if you see this thank you for hearing me out!
