It is UNCANNY how much they were able to make Val Kilmer look like Jim Morrison
True
Looks nothing like jim morrison but he played him really well
@@SlimeSlob0321 You really don't think he looked like Jim any whatsoever? I got such Jim vibes I almost felt hypnotized by the screen the first time I seen this.
@@SlimeSlob0321 agreed, it looks like Val Kilmer wearing a cheap wig is all I see. But he does sound like him at least.
It was good casting.
0:57 Wish you Were Here wasn't even out yet 😂
You are absolutely right
I had no idea until a short time ago that val kilmar used his own voice for the film. That is actually pretty awesome. Such a unique voice and the funny thing is, even the band when listening couldn't tell the difference between he and Jim Morrisson. This film should have been a bigger hit than it was. Unfortunately it sounded like a very hard film to make with certain people and family members making a lot of demands.
They only used it for the closeups, when it's a long shot it's back to Morrison. Really weird way to do it, should've just let Val do all of it.
Actually Oliver stone focused only on the dark side of Jim. Most doors fans know that. Ray said that “that wasn’t Jim Morrison. It was Oliver stone in leather pants.”
@@SamuelCAsh-ns3wm "Actually Oliver stone focused only on the dark side of Jim." The Doors music was used thruout, how is that the dark side? And the scenes with Jim & Pam were 99% beautiful. Val's performance imo is the best for any music bio since Kurt Russell did Elvis. But Val sang and his intensity was phenomenal.
Paul Rothschild (their producer) played the tracks for the surviving members and he says they got it wrong about 80% of the time.
@@moonlightlove27 I am only telling you what all of Jim’s friends said. Listen to the interviews in here and you’ll discover an entirely different human being. Not just a drugged up bafoon.
Val Kilmer is was easily one of the greatest actors of all time.
And stuck up
Doc holiday, batman, doors n the first top gun...
@@mari02132heat too
It's sad that Throat Cancer ruined Vals amazing voice: he did a great job at singing and talking like Jim Morrison.
You are stupid and you know IT
You will never be Jim
RIP the two members of The Doors
Ray Manzarek (February 12, 1939 - May 20, 2013), age 74
Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971), age 27
You both will be remembered as legends
RIP to what, their dead flesh? Sick. Peace is for the soul in heaven.
Mans written this on every doors movie scene
@@moonlightlove27 Why do you state that as a fact? You don't know that. Really tired of religious zealots talking as if their beliefs are reality.
27... that number is just too small 😥
Val Kilmer’s best role in my humble opinion, he really became Jim Morrison here.
You mean he became a Oliver Stone's version of Jim Morrison.
He sure did. By many accounts
2nd to Doc Holiday in Tombstone. The dude he played in Salton Sea was interesting too.
I love how he’s like “ayo gimme 5 minutes to come up with an intro” when in reality this song probably took months to write lmao.
I tried teaching it to myself and it took my a solid 4 months
I took me a while to learn that powerful intro in piano. As a musician I can say that Ray might have made different versions of the intro until he got to the ultimate version, because I do that and sometimes I take months or even years to complete a song cause I’m not pleased with the final result. Maybe it wasn’t so hard for him to learn it, because he played Bach which is harder than Light my fire, but maybe he took a while to decide which one, well never know and let’s just enjoy it.
@@james0n_B Got it in one day..Mind you I've been playing Piano since the age of 8
Except that the intro in fact only did take five minutes to write. That wasn't the intent, but it just so happened that the band took a walk on the beach and Manzarek went the other way to think about the intro and before they got very far he called them back because he had suddenly felt what it should sound like. As a trained classical musician he basically had an idea based on Bach. More info here: ruclips.net/video/3hpHZdQLJw8/видео.html&ab_channel=ProfessorofRock
Actually the intro did only take like 5-10 minutes to create.
Watching the doors movie.
Val should have won an Oscar for this movie. NO ONE. Cld 0have done this. No one. Absolutely amazing.
Eveybody talking about Robby and Jim but you forget about Ray making light my fire’s intro, that’s fire
It's a classic lead-in for all time.
@@MiltonJenkins "intro"
Kilmer is a great actor. I remember when impersonated the villian in The Saint. He moved and sounded like Jim Morrison
How was Val Kilmer not nominated for this… it was 30 years ago and still infuriates me
LOL, trust me, there are many actors who portrayed real life people who got snubbed. Another example is Daniel Bruhl playing Nikki Lauda.
Not even a Golden Globe nomination! It's beyond belief
@@SlickRick4EVER I don't know about that, look at Austin Butler who won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for his performance as Elvis Presley
"Figure if i'm gonna compete with your stuff, better be about earth, snakes or fire." 🤣🤣
I went to see Jim’s grave in Paris a couple of years ago. I was a big fan when I was younger.
Me too back in 2013!
I was there in 1995
Holy shit I just noticed that Robbie Krieger is Brett from Pulp Fiction
Yes, he is Brett from Pulp Fiction. His name is Frank Whaley
yeah before pulp fiction lol
What
Yes you did Brett.
look at he big brain on Robbieee
I love Oliver Stone's movies. NOBODY captured the 60s like he did.
Nobody could have portrayed Jim other than Val Kilmer. He was phenomenal
The psychology behind Jim Morrison fascinates me. Oliver Stone is an Amazing director. We share an intense interest in the same topics. He was in Vietnam, I was born in 1969, so it was water under the bridge at that point. Can't explain my intense interest. The closest I can get is the opening car accident scene in this movie.
I guess I basically understand. He's obsessed with chaos (clown, trickster). So much so that he will die to bring about more chaos. I've seen this...I don't know, 39 times and I'm finally starting to understand .
Pamela loves him more than anything she's ever known, and she eventually feels she has to compete to keep him.
At least Jim found true love. Well I think he did, but he's surrounded with so much chaos, I'm not sure.
Oliver Stone failed to portray Jim Morrisson. He focused on the superficial aspects of Jim’s life. Narrative is disgusting.
Goosebumps when light my fire starts
When the doors heard Val singing, they couldn't tell whether is Jim or the actor
God this film was and still is bloody fantastic!!
The Doors from 1991 directed by Oliver Stone starring Val Kilmer these guys nailed it for the movie Perfectly they even did their own vocals a movie documentary masterpiece the life and time of Jim Morrison and The Doors
Back when people worked as a team. No cel phones, no distractions (maybe girls 😂), but pure embodiment of guys with heart, ego, the good, and the bad.
Definitely seemed more organic back then. REally up until the late 90's.
I feel like if I'm gonna compete with your stuff it better be about Earth, snakes... or fire!
Love the name!! Rodney is certainly missed. Anyways, when he says that line, I always think of Beavis saying "fire!!" 😂😂
Robbie Krieger was no Yngwie Malmsteen but I really don't believe he had to look at his guitar like an old man playing these 2 chords :P
more than two chords lol....
Uh Robbie is a way better guitarist than Malmsteen . Love malmsteen but don't disrespect the legend
I noticed the same. Like he’s just learning basic chords
Love Val. I especially loved him as Doc Holliday. Great actor, handsome man.
0:55 doesn't that sound like Wish you were here
I knew I recognized it from somewhere! 😂😂
Or maybe Hyacinth House?
Guy Ravenscroft Pink Floyd cover as well well spotted
Oh shit you’re right
True Af, exactly what I thought bc I’m a big Pink Floyd fan
I watch this every time i'm drunk for some reason 😂

Its a very good scene
Awesome scene!!
Creo que es la mejor escena de la película...
@Chase Mcdude ya yyyy ?
Val did a fantastic job in this movie. The Doors where a little before my time, but Val was hot and part of my generation. Super cute and had that sweet/bad boy charm.😍💖
Val kilmer gran interpretación felicitaciones 😍😍😍😍😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Munina 20/8/20
Crazy that he learned 50 doors songs and sung them all and did really well
Let's be honest here, Kilmer was born with that Morrison type of look, body, mannerisms and even voice....he didn't have to 'act' much. Born for this role.
After "Get Back", kinda yearn to see all these moments live.
The Doors Forever!.. I' Love the lizard king
If they made movies like that today, they wouldn't know where to hand out the Oscars first.
One of the best songs... 👍😎
I know there has been critisism regarding the accuracy of this movie. I thought it captured the essence of a time.
should be great to hear the complete break on through .
I love this movie and Jim Morrison and Val kilmer
Pink Floyd moment @ 0:55!
You beat me to it
Hey its Johnny Drama playing the drums!!! He really was a star back in the day
Hey it's Jimbo!!
I never knew Johnny Drama was in this movie!
Who is johnn Drama?
@@castillothebar5050 Sorry, Johnny Drama. From the HBO show Entourage. That actor, Kevin Dillon, placed the main characters older brother. I never seen him in anything other than Entourage.
Also Agent Cooper.
the casting director couldn't have done any better
Yeah I'm sure light my fire came together just like that
hehe dramatised for the film of course...did u really want a whole movie with them creating one song?
Klasse gespielt von Val Kilmer ❤
Did I just hear "wish you were here" @00:56
I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard that!
Did anyone notice Jim's bust in the background at 45 seconds
Jennifer Barksdale Never noticed that! Maybe Oliver Stone meant for it to hint that Jim’s end was always looming in the background
@@Dante-uk8pr that's very deep never thought of that
it looks like an indian if u look really close at it but does look like him tbh!
@@rayzininthesun8691 that makes sense and makes it even deeper, Jim had an experience as a kid with an Indian I forget if the Indian was dead or if he had a vision but yeah.
great movie
THE DOORS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bohemian Rhapsody
I am the only who is annoyed by the way Robbie Krieger is portrayed like a novice guitar player?
in fact, he was a novice guitar player at this time
He didn’t have a lot of experience with an electric guitar around this time
@@n.a2235 I understand - but in this scene can barely play a G-chord... ;-)
At the time he was only playing electric guitar for six months but he already had a lot of experience in flamenco and spanish stuff
Just enjoy the flick
I like Val’s performance, but the vocals are not anything like Jim.
Originally recorded in August 1966 a few months before the debut of Laura Collins the Phoenix on "Dark Shadows" an immortal who is perpetually reborn after dying in a supernatural fire who was the wife of Roger Collins who divorced her for alcoholism and put her in a sanitarium, as well as the mother of the kid David who was always getting possessed by ghosts Laura wanted to die with her because she loved him. Synchronicity,
Wat
@@byronrealbird397 The Dark Shadows character may have been partly inspired by this Jim Morrison song which came out shortly prior.
0:56 wish you were here????
I have never had a problem with Kilmer and his performance, he did awesome! I just hate the dialogue they gave Kilmer to use as Jim. I mean the everything he says in the movie is from Jim poetry. If you go look at any archive footage or interview tapes of Jim, he did not talk at all the way the movie portrayed it.
as soon as the ladies leave, the boys do work
So true
Go tell Yoko.
Go tell Yoko.
I'm a female musician, and I hated when the guys would drag their girlfriends to practice. It's not a ladies/boys thing - its just a band thing.
Can’t believe I only just realized that Ray Manzarek in this is Agent Cooper 🤯 (Kyle MacLachlan)
The Real Robby insisted they make it clear he wrote this song instead if Jim. Although, Jim wrote the second verse Lyrics.
Can't say I blame him though, give credit where credit is due..I may be wrong but I think this was their biggest radio hit and went the highest in the charts.
He did an amazing job as Jim in this movie
Kyle playing as ray he looks like John Lennon here lol
Really important scene, "They want something sacred...".
This is reminding me of many religions.
Heroin, the Sun. There must be a connection. Mexico.
I comment on this two-bit clip, I'll never find this again. DF.
I love this 🍿
Holy shit. I just noticed Jim Morrison is Iceman from Top Gun.
JIM MORRISON SUPER ⭐ VAL KILMER SUPER ⭐

He looks just like him.
Si hay alguien en argentina que me lea y escuche...light my fire suena igual al principio que la balsa
No me digas
2:52 he’s playing the high hat but the sound you here isn’t the high hat sounds like the ride
Victorrryyy!
The doors of preseption acid
Some kind of ritual.
Just like Mon-Fri. Rituals are quite more prevalent then you think.
Robbie was never the antagonist towards Jim's lyrics he went with the flow, it was John who was the straight laced one, this movie is so Fkd up
they show john being pissed off all through the movie...whatcha talking about?
I realized this is the 2nd Oliver Stone movie Kevin Dillon starred in
At around 0:56 does Robby play the very beginning of “wish you were here” by Pink Floyd?
NO! Not this scene. That before, when Jim sings spontanously
Kelly Hu 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
indeed. damn, i missed my chance meeting her like 4 yrs ago
I honestly have no clue how people can smoke weed and make amazing music like this i know its just in the movie but probably done this jim morrison was crazy
This is the funniest RUclips comment I’ve ever read lmfao
Check out the big chops on Brett
0:56 Pink Floyd Riff
Give me 5 mins to figure out this intro

A lot more going on at the same time. The pagan bonfire scene totally makes me think of Sodom and Gomorrah ( back door man).
They cut it a minute to early ...it has to of been the best bit of the film hearing that melody come together ...
Halfway through the movie I realised it was complete nonsense. So they basically just used Jim's name to paint him in a bad light and gain money. I cant comprehend how its even allowed.
Great movie at face value but not historically accurate. Sometimes that’s how you tell a story best.
When showing the band Light My Fire, why is 'Robby' playing his guitar like some beginner fiddling around with basic chords?
Horrible casting. Lol Same for the dude portraying Ray. Should've been Kiefer Sutherland
Family Guy said hello. Is it true what they said? Is this really the complete opposite of a chick magnet?
I know this. Jim would go ape shit with this cancel culture shit. That is for sure.
that's pure bullshit... Jim was tired to write every song and he told Robby to write one. That why he composed ''Light my Fire'' a phrase he stolen/modofied from th Rolling Stones .... a inspired by fire earth air water....
So contrived. Love the Doors. Hate this fiilm
