Nardwaur is a terrible interviewer. He doesn't care about asking good questions or following up, he's just waiting for them to spit out their answer so he can hit them with the next "question" which is usually him just bringing up some rare factoid. He's good at digging shit up on people but as far as interview skills and dialogue he's awful.
I love how when Sean’s guests compliment his questions, he just gives a quick thank you and moves on when really all that work went into getting those great questions. No doubt he deserves all the success he’s gotten
Those compliments are the highest praise. Most of the people he interviews spend a ridiculous amount of time answering media & interview questions. Hundreds & thousands a day sometimes. To stand out in that crowd is awesome.
One thing I believe separates Sean Evans from every other interviewer is he NEVER talks about himself and keeps the narrative and focus just about his guests.
Right! When he does talk about himself its usually to lay a foundation to get the guest to go in a different direction. When brought up his girlfriend's beauty pageant background during his Halle Berry interview, it was great because it revealed a part of Ms Berry that is rarely talked about. It wasn't some guy high fiving himself for having a attractive mate but a clever non sequitur into this female dominant and sometimes toxic level of competition. I've watched pageants for years and had no idea that some competitors where willing to do sabotage others to win. I found that intriguing.
Yes but a podcast is not a platform for classic interviews. It is more of a free flowing style so that it feels like a conversation rather than a list of bullet points. Also because of the high quality Audio and the individualized microphones, their voices do not mix together as if you were sitting across from them. This is why many podcasts will have on headphones even if they are feet from each other, unlike these guys who aren't wearing any headphones. It's also just not that bad.
hahahaha. I noticed that too. I actually thought Ethan was on weed for falling to focus. And then he says he doesn't touch weed. At least he's trying to learn.
Sad how he just waits until they stop talking so he can get on to the next one... doesn't seem he listens to the answers as a whole and just pics up on something to reflect towards the end of their sentence

My expectations of Hot Ones isn't that things ratchet up, but that the quality maintains, and that the editing stays crisp, and that the guests are interesting. I doubt The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson ratcheted up, but it was the consistent quality and delivery of deliverables that put it on top. One of the most important ingredients to the show is Sean. It works because of his attitude, professionalism, preparation, and smooth delivery and deft handling of the guests.
Absolutely agreed. Quality content. We watch because its real. Its real because people actually care about what they put out. And what they put out has been slowly catching fire. And so is Sean's boss status. You're right. People watched Johnny because he just had that skill thing. IMO, Sean's got it. All that having to step everything up noise comes from the "industry". I worry sometimes that Sean and his team put too much pressure on themselves to do more. As a viewer, I'm Chillin. Am I the only one? No expectations. Consistently entertained. If it aint broke, :p ..... you know.
He snorted milk bc Aubrey Plaza did too, he’s committed to making the guests comfortable while deep diving with his questions. All of the respect goes to this dude.
I agree. I don’t want the show to fall into that trap where it thinks it has to be something completely different in five years. As long as it’s hitting all those points we as an audience dig, they will be fine doing the same thing.
The one thing that concerns me is that he'll get too big and only have big stars on. I hope he continues to have Rap stars and other personalities who are not as well-known. People who are really interesting, but that The media engine doesn't push. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing big stars on it, too But it wouldn't be the same show with only big stars.
I was thinking the exact same thing when that came up. I really think this is one of those Hollywood truisms that seeps out and I honestly think they shoot themselves in the foot. There was one of the Spiderman reboots specifically I remember where they just introduced more and more villains at the same time in what ended up being a mess. I think Matrix did the same thing with 2 and 3, trying to upscale the whole thing - especially including Sion as an emotional point clearly introduced a lot of noise. My dad even made a funny comment about the Pirates of the Caribbean series, saying he only liked the first one "because it was the most realistic"; I laughed at the time, but he's getting at that same tendency. The first pirates movie had some pirates, stole some gold, got cursed. This is a far cry from ships underwater and flipping around a ship to get to the world's end and Gods unfurling a love-story in the middle of some pirate purge while Will is just trying to free his father from Davy Jones' ship and what even was that whole cannibal island scene where Sparrow becomes the god-leader of some remote tribe on an island I don't even remember being important except as an escape from the Kraken curse? There are complicated movies that are wonderful and it's not impossible to escalate but I kinda wish the industry didn't feel so desperate to do it just for the sake of doing it.
if you're asking one of the best interviewers how to research and interview properly, shut the fuck up and listen. Ethan can't interview because he can't even listen his guests
When he said “fascinating” immediately after Sean’s answer and then launched promptly into his next question I cringed. You could tell dude was nervous... and rightly so, I suppose. Massive pressure to be interviewing The Interviewer. 😅
acebasespace This interpretation is unbelievably generous to Ethan. It’s not that deep. Ethan straight up interrupted him because he prioritised his question and what he wanted to know over what Sean was saying in the moment.
It's funny how Sean talks about how some interviewers are trying to just get their next question out and Ethan is doing just that, really just following his goal of learning as much as possible from Sean but sometimes not really following up on his answers or even letting him finish here and there... It's understandable though)
Tbh, Sean comes across as moving on to the next question at times. Great questions and he’s great at adapting to different guests but literally the one criticism I have of his interviews is that they could stand to be more conversational
Yeah thats the most difficult part of interviewing someone. Takes a lot of skill and years of experience to listen and be prepared for the next question at the same time.
He may not have much stomach problems. Indians eat spicy food all through their lives and "stomach" trouble isn't one of the problems that's a cause of worry for us. So I think eating hot sauce for one meal in a week is ok. But yeah, he should take care of himself. He's a great interviewer.
Honestly thought hot ones was a dumb idea without watching it, I watched one recently. This guy is, I think, the best interviewer out there today, I have watched alot in the last week Total legend
One thing I’ve noticed about Sean that’s unfortunately kind of rare- if the guest only answers a question halfway or just doesn’t go for it at all, sometimes even a little rudely, he goes with the flow and doesn’t ever lose his cool. Even like news anchors or talk show hosts, sometimes they run out of questions quickly or worry about the guest turning down a question.
Been saying this for a year or two. The best, truest example of an interviewer or a host. Actually knows his guest and not just handed a few bullet points. Huge things to come for Sean.
He never circled back on contextualizing his questions! As an interviewer you gotta pick up on that and bring it back around. That's like pro tip number 1.
Interestingly, though I've never before seen this interview with Sean, I would assure him the height of his stature has surely surpassed what he seems to have expected for himself during this time. What he's done is depressingly unobtainable through hard work alone. Sean Evans, what you have done is something that is indeed very special. To be cherished, certainly. Congratulations Sean. You've earned this.
This interview was so cringy, especially after knowing, watching and listening to how Sean Evans interviews people... it almost seems like they dont really care about what Sean has to say.

Sean Evans is probably the best interviewer I’ve ever seen. Rarely does he do an interview where a guest doesn’t comment on the level of research that has been done. He’s one of a kind.
I would argue to Sean that it doesn't need to continue to ratchet up. The formula that works - works! Seinfeld is still my favorite because over 9 seasons, in essence, it didn't change.

I was told once by a teacher of mine that a) eye contact is HUGE in conversations, you can’t properly listen to someone if you’re barely looking at them. B) you can always tell the mark of a confident speaker by their hand gestures, and c) the person you’re talking to is always more interested in themselves than they are interested in you. Sean has all of these in spades.
I like Sean trying to subtly tell Ethan to actually pay attention to the interviewee and not just be waiting for the pauses to fill the gaps pointlessly.
I relate to the weed thing so much. Every time I try to smoke with people I turn into a paranoid mess. I can maybe sometimes get high if I'm at home alone, but even then there's a chance that I'll start to get uncomfortable.
What I love about Sean is that he plays to the mood of his guests. If they are struggling with the heat he will Match that energy to an extent to stay in the same rapport and feeling of the guest. It’s impeccable body language and intuition along with constant observation
What I took away from this video. Play things on 2x speed so you can consume information faster. Brilliant. The second half of this video was played at 2x. lol.
it's tough to realize the extent to which somebody will work their butt off, but Sean is someone I have utmost respect for just because of the time commitment and the discipline he has to express on a day-to-day level in order to bring this show out to its audience amazing show
I watch all youtube videos and listen to podcast at 1.5x all the time. Try it. Start with 1.25x and you will realise the normal speed is so fucking slow.
He goes beneath the surface with his interviews, and his kindness shows through in them. Awesome man. I haven't missed one episode of Hot Ones, and glad I haven't because I watch because he's the host, and it's given me insight into some people I wouldn't have probably thought to listen to which is a cool thing.
So much respect to this man, he is doing what all journalists should be doing, putting in the time and elbow grease to make the interview as interesting as possible. That's a rare sight these days
Sean Evans is low key a genius, at least as far as exploring people and getting to know a guest as an interviewer and host. the guest experience he curates is top notch
Shaun talks about interesting snippets that other interviewers leave on the table and how quick "armchair psychology" doesn't satisfy it... "mm interesting" . no follow-up question, let's talk about weed.. Irony.. :|
Noticeable too, is as mentioned by Sean, is the importance of eye contact when speaking to his guests. Along with his research and preparation, he lets the guest open up and be sincere which we all appreciate. Sean is the best in the field of interviewers.
Sean Evans opened my eyes to people I never thought I’d like or people who I wasn’t a huge fan of and now I at least have a different respect for them as people. Thank you Sean you’re awesome
He really is a great interviewer. Love Hot Ones. At first i thought he seemed a little too plain/mellow but he really is such a great interviewer you just get caught up with it. side note: not to be critical, but I can't stand when an interviewer or even just a person you know keeps doing "a humm/hmm/interesting" cus its disruptive, and its a lil bit rude. Especially when its common sense that those are just cheap skills to pretend to show the person that is speaking that you are intersted in what they are saying or are even paying attention or even care about what they say.
I was watching the Halle Berry episode. Sean know that on John Wick 3 Halle had Belgian Malinois, not German Shepherds protecting her. He also knew she owned labradoodles. He asked if the training skills on set translated to her own dogs. That's a deep dive and a question that she was eager to answer.
sean is not only extremely hard working but also very good at what he does. he definitely deserves the recognition and fame. i hope hes getting paid too
Mr. Evans is so quick and fluid in this episode as an interviewee even while high. Mad respect for him and his team for the pure hard work they do. I can barely put together coherent thoughts when I used to smoke weed. I could not imagine doing this.
It’s ironic how he says that some interviewers will ask a question and zone out, then just perk up when it’s time to move on to the next question - to which after he gives his answer, they agree and move on to the next question.
Been watching Hot Ones for the past 6 or 7 episodes. Really impressed by the research that goes into it and the little known nuggets Sean unearths in each interview. 💪🏼💯
He is an equally good interview. Real. That's why I watch Hot Ones. Lately I've been choosing Hot Ones interviews in which I have a 'poor' opinion of the celeb, and challenge Sean and the interviewee to change my mind about them. 9 times out of 10 I have a better opinion of that celeb than I did before the episode. Da Bomb always brings out Da Real celebrity personality.
Ethan needs to build his tolerance up or consume less THC. He doesn't like weed because he gets too high... it's like drinking coffee. Sure drinking a little bit of coffee is great, but try drinking a gallon of it.
The analog is that too much of something will make you feel bad. Too much coffee will make you feel like shit, just like too much THC will make you paranoid af because ur so high.
this isn't always true, used to love weed and me n my mate would consistently go through 4 joints and a couple bowls every time we smoked up and we loved it, however even one toke now can get me at a level where I will feel too self conscious about everything I say or do. I used to love it so it's a shame that's how it worked out but everything affects everyone different and that's how it can affect some people
As interviewers go and how interview shows go... Sean Evans and The Hot Ones is one of the best out there! Sean Evans has a great interviewing technique and has a great persona. He manages to get a real answer out of anyone, a lot of interviewers can’t do that. He’s brilliant and incredibly underrated, his show could and should be regarded higher than late night talk shows
Sean Evans has said that he wishes to have a spot hosting a late night show, I have never felt this drive in my stomach that he gets it! He so deserves it and I hope networks recognize him and see what we all see, he really gives the best interviews with his intelligent questions.
I default at 2x. Podcats with heavy accents, especially Australian get bumped down to 1.5x. JRE which is 3 hours long and they talk slow because they're all usually high, I can listen comfortably at 3x.
Sean is the best interviewer and asks the best questions...the proof is in the show, while he eats the same sauce(he's on fire too and he'll tell you he's done it over 100x and it never gets easier)plus ,pretty much every interviewee, maybe multiple times, will say" how'd you know that? ", or the infamous" that's a GREAT question!", while they give him the best perplexed look ever....and you can tell he's a down to earth, stand up kind of guy. Or he's the devil ,in some guests eyes 😆

Yes but a podcast is not a platform for classic interviews. It is more of a free flowing style so that it feels like a conversation rather than a list of bullet points. I like Sean trying to subtly tell Ethan to actually pay attention to the interviewee and not just be waiting for the pauses to fill the gaps pointlessly.
Watching the podcast on 2x speed - lmao that’s some college kid watching a lecture they missed shit😂😂
"That process has actually gotten more intense, to a point that I don't know if I can.." LET HIM FINISH JESUS
I relate to the weed thing so much. Every time I try to smoke with people I turn into a paranoid mess. I can maybe sometimes get high if I'm at home alone, but even then there's a chance that I'll start to get uncomfortable.
I love Sean lol he’s literally so cool. He can talk to anyone
Wow, the dedication from him so amazing!
Brilliant. The second half of this video was played at 2x. lol.
it's tough to realize the extent to which somebody will work their butt off, but Sean is someone I have utmost respect for just because of the time commitment and the discipline he has to express on a day-to-day level in order to bring this show out to its audience
amazing show
THE 2X JUST MADE MY LIFE
Diego Bosoms Ben Shapiro?
I watch all youtube videos and listen to podcast at 1.5x all the time. Try it.
Start with 1.25x and you will realise the normal speed is so fucking slow.
My media consumption just doubled
This is the mentally ill mindset
How does one do that?
He goes beneath the surface with his interviews, and his kindness shows through in them. Awesome man. I haven't missed one episode of Hot Ones, and glad I haven't because I watch because he's the host, and it's given me insight into some people I wouldn't have probably thought to listen to which is a cool thing.
*INTERVIEWING SKILL INCREASED*
So much respect to this man, he is doing what all journalists should be doing, putting in the time and elbow grease to make the interview as interesting as possible. That's a rare sight these days
So he uses elbow grease. A weird thing to do when researching a guest but it’s working for him.
I heard it works for all kinds of activities actually.
CezaMVO what is elbow grease? somebody help thx
oscar munguia effort u dumb fuck
Ben Hermon not everybody knows English expressions dude chill out
oscar munguia it means hard work. Rolling up your sleeves and really getting into something with effort. There is no actual grease.
Irony.. :|
Sean
Noticeable too, is as mentioned by Sean, is the importance of eye contact when speaking to his guests. Along with his research and preparation, he lets the guest open up and be sincere which we all appreciate. Sean is the best in the field of interviewers.
Hila doesnt provide input unless shes looked at and ethan cuts off too much.
Sean Evans opened my eyes to people I never thought I’d like or people who I wasn’t a huge fan of and now I at least have a different respect for them as people. Thank you Sean you’re awesome
This isn't even an interview its Ethan saying hey give me some tips while constantly interrupting him
YES thank you this is why I knew I loved Sean Evans... he listens to things at 2x and so do I
He really is a great interviewer.
He is the best interviewer out there for real. Nothing better than good old solid research
Sean Evans interviews Sean Evans on this episode of hot one where we have hot questions and even hotter wing
2:19 is easily the most offensive interruption I have seen in an interview, like wtf
sean is not only extremely hard working but also very good at what he does. he definitely deserves the recognition and fame. i hope hes getting paid too
Sean and Nardwuar are the best interviewers I've seen, They both have thoses questions that have the guest asking how the hell did you know that.
The fact that most of his guests tell him how great his questions and interviews skills are, tells the Sean story!👍
You should have to pay to watch this, this is some next level advice for interviews
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 agreed!
Mr. Evans is so quick and fluid in this episode as an interviewee even while high. Mad respect for him and his team for the pure hard work they do. I can barely put together coherent thoughts when I used to smoke weed. I could not imagine doing this.
I love this dude #SeanEvans
The research behind Sean’s show is next level
It’s ironic how he says that some interviewers will ask a question and zone out, then just perk up when it’s time to move on to the next question - to which after he gives his answer, they agree and move on to the next question.
If we ever have another person in the future who is like Sean Evans in the sense they are a great interviewer then I will consider them blessed
He makes interviewing into an art
Sean and the guy from BBC 1 radio really are the only interviews I regularly watch
Ethan needs to build his tolerance up or consume less THC. He doesn't like weed because he gets too high... it's like drinking coffee. Sure drinking a little bit of coffee is great, but try drinking a gallon of it.
Captain Buggy I'm sorry what
The analog is that too much of something will make you feel bad.
I used to love it so it's a shame that's how it worked out but everything affects everyone different and that's how it can affect some people
Your gallon of coffee challenge is intriguing. What powers would I gain I wonder? Would they be permanent?
I drink about a gallon of coffee whenever I have a formal chemistry or physics lab to write.
One of,if not the best interviewer ever. Absolute respect to Hot Ones!
Nardwaur knows everything
NappyBoyTrillion they should get Nardwuar on the show fr
NARDWUAR ON THE H3 PODCAST
NappyBoyTrillion I have no clue how he fucking does it, he’s like Sean Evans on crack with steroids
they should get nadir on this show... he's even there on the west coast!
He mostly gets in contact with whoever he’s interviewing closest friends and family members
As interviewers go and how interview shows go... Sean Evans and The Hot Ones is one of the best out there! Sean Evans has a great interviewing technique and has a great persona.
He manages to get a real answer out of anyone, a lot of interviewers can’t do that. He’s brilliant and incredibly underrated, his show could and should be regarded higher than late night talk shows
The way Ethan feels about weed is how I feel about alcohol
It's the way I think about pot. Just a burnout vice.
sean really gets what it means to interview it seems like. i love hearing him talk off the cuff here
😂idk why, but I can’t stop watching your eyebrows man.
Sean Evans is a mo fuckin badass
who else wants to admit to watching this at 2x?
1.25 is legit for all h3h3 vids
no shame in that. Some people just talk so slow. 2x is a bit too fast for this though, i agree
Sean Evans has said that he wishes to have a spot hosting a late night show, I have never felt this drive in my stomach that he gets it! He so deserves it and I hope networks recognize him and see what we all see, he really gives the best interviews with his intelligent questions.
I hope he learned some interview skills from Sean. Poor Sean got cut off in so many sentences during this lol.
Sean evans, has really good questions a Lot of his guests are suprised that he is Always soo good prepared.
I default at 2x. Podcats with heavy accents, especially Australian get bumped down to 1.5x. JRE which is 3 hours long and they talk slow because they're all usually high, I can listen comfortably at 3x.
RUclips maxes at 2x. How are you listening at 3x?
brett taylor podcasts
@@nthomas87 Thx bro
Sean is the best interviewer and asks the best questions...the proof is in the show, while he eats the same sauce(he's on fire too and he'll tell you he's done it over 100x and it never gets easier)plus ,pretty much every interviewee, maybe multiple times, will say" how'd you know that? ", or the infamous" that's a GREAT question!", while they give him the best perplexed look ever....and you can tell he's a down to earth, stand up kind of guy. Or he's the devil ,in some guests eyes 😆
Jordan Peterson on Hot Ones would be amazing. He can be talking about the importance of free speech while his mouth is on fire.
Is he the racist guy who sounds like Kermit the Frog?
Richard Harrow He does sound hella like Kermit but since when was he a racist? 😂
@@connorspeight523 Probably at whatever age children develop the ability to say certain races are genetically smarter than others.
Battling postmodernist and the urge to run screaming
But he is probably to controversial
I love hearing celebs saying Hot Ones is an interview on their “bucket list.”
