    The DJI Phantom 3 is amazing. Its an all in-one solution for photographers and videographers who want to shoot arial images. It combines a GPS/VPS powered quadcopter with a powered gimbal and camera system.
    The DJI Phantom 3 Professional shoots 4K on a 12MP Sony Exmor sensor. The Advanced version has a 12MP Panasonic sensor, but doesn't offer 4K video or the ability to attach lens filters.

    Ted, you've really got to be careful flying over a highway, aside from being illegal, if you had a flyaway, you could definitely cause a really bad wreck.

    • @TravelswithYoly

      +Gregory Fricker Especially since Ted mentions proper usage and responsibility in the video. According to the FAA you're not supposed to fly over people either. Just flying over a populated area risks personal injury should there be any kind of unforseen failure and the drone falls.

    This is an excellent review and great footages. I have owned several DJI drones including 3 generations of Phantoms, S900 and F450 and all are great drones. They are all excellent birds that are trouble free 99% of flights. I fly at least twice a week for the last two years. However one should bear in mind that these birds do gets crazy from time to time. I acutally lost 1 Phantom and 1 F450 when they suddenly got crazy and loss control, presumably due to electrical failure and interference. So be prepared that it could be dangerous when one flies over highways, people and buildings. I enjoyed flying over hills and sea and therefore whenever there is something going wrong, I only lost a bird and not causing harm and injury to others.

  • @toddavis8151
    @toddavis8151 8 лет назад

    The problem with the drones is that there are so many regulations (well there are here in Australia). Not just with the airports but you you have to be at least 30m away from anyone not connected to your use. So that rules out most urban areas

  • @carrigman
    @carrigman 8 лет назад

    Excellent. Makes me want one. Except in Ireland, where I live, there are new laws governing the use of drones which would make your urban video illegal. Flying a drone is prohibited:
    - if it will be a hazard to another aircraft in flight;
    - over an assembly of people;
    - farther than 300m from the operator;
    - within 120m of any person, vessel or structure not under the operator’s control;
    - closer than 5km from an aerodrome;
    - over 400ft (120m) above ground level;
    - over urban areas;
    - in civil- or military-controlled airspace;
    - in restricted areas (military installations, prisons, etc);
    - unless they have permission from the landowner for takeoff and landing.

    Curious where the line is that defines commercial work with a drone. If you use it commercially you need a pilot's certificate to fly as well as other requirements. Do you need a client, that is paying you, for this to kick in? If you make money, as a for profit entity, does that kick it up to commercial use? So many questions. Love your content and thank you for sharing these beautiful clips.

    A federal judge says the FAA over stepped it's authority and tossed out the FAA requiring registration of "Model Aircraft" that fly below 400 feet. He also sited only congress can impose fines not the FAA. As there is no fine established from congress that covers "Model Aircraft" As they are civil matters if someone is hurt or injured not federal.
    So all you need for insurance purposes is to be a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

  • @angeldelvax7219
    @angeldelvax7219 8 лет назад

    In the video you explained about using a filter so you can lower the shutter speed. I understand the effects you are after, but I wondered, since you're using a digital camera, can you recreate those effects acurately with software? Not that I want everything to be done in the computer, but how I see it (correct me if I'm wrong...) if you have a high shutter speed, and razor sharp images, you do hafe the most clean images to work with, and if you can create the lok you want with digital effects, it should be easyer to get motion blur from a sharp image, than to remove it from a blurred.
    I know Blender has a decent movie editor built in, but since I only used it for basic cut/past work (I don't have a great video camera unfortunately) I don't know if the digital effects would be as good as actually lowering your shutter speed and using a filter... But with blender for instance you can get a great result if you do the same with photo's.
    I usually try to get my images as sharp as possible, and only use filters if I can't recreate the effect digitally (like polarising filters to get rid of glare and see through the water surface for example) That way I can do just about anything with the images I have.

    • @GranVlog
      @GranVlog 8 лет назад +1

      Its more to do with the light thats entering the sensor. There is no way to tone down the sky and sun afterwards in post and still have the details. Only works with pictures.

    • @angeldelvax7219
      @angeldelvax7219 8 лет назад

      +GranVlog Actually, you CAN tone down the sun and sky with good results, as long as it's not clipping. But with very short shutter times you get the same amount of light on the sensor as with a filter. I do agree however that even that short amount of time can cause clipping, and a filter can definately avoid that.
      You said it only works on pictures... Do you mean on film? Or digital? Since movies are nothing more than a series of still images, every effect that works on photo's works on movies. I don't know if an overexposed film can have a similar effect as "clipping" on digital images...

    • @theartofphotography
      @theartofphotography  8 лет назад +1

      +Ronald Delvax Ronald - its the way the shutter effects motion blur. Software simulation is not the same. When motion is still everything is sharp, but movement is effected to help the flow. Honestly even if there was a plug in to simulate this, I think its easier to get in camera. You can do frame blending - I use that on timelapse footage, but it's not the same.

    • @GranVlog
      @GranVlog 8 лет назад +1

      Ronald Delvax i meant dng raw pictures. You can tweak and adjust more than with the video file. Ofc you can tone down the video, but if you have to lover the shutter to make the sky look good, everything else will be dark and impossible to recover. Thats why nd filters are great. lower the intensity of the sun and the white clouds so you can still get a bright image/video with details in the sky and ground. Ive tested it a lot of times on my P3P.

    • @angeldelvax7219
      @angeldelvax7219 8 лет назад

      I was thinking about the motion blur, and as I got the message about the last reply, I realised that motion blur is affected bij the depth of whatever is in your picture. Unless you have a program that can calculate the exact distance of EVERYTHING in the shot, it's impossible to duplicate a realistic motion blur in live footage. (Why didn't I think of this before I asked the question in the first place....)
      Thanks for the replies!
      And merry christmas (or whatever everyone is celebrating ;) )

    Please do not make the relatively high dollar Phantom 3 pro your first Drone. Your going to crash/wreck it, I guarantee it. Start with a small $15 drone and tear it up, bounce it off the walls and learn to fly it. Then buy a bigger Syma 5 or 8. Cheap, large, almost indestructable. Learn to control it. Fly at a park, with no trees. If you still like doing this and after several months of flying your drone still flies and you can fly it without wrecking it, THEN, and only then, order a Phantom 3 or 4. You can thank me later. :o)
