    One of the most sensible videos I’ve seen in a long time. I only take baby steps when it comes to changing the ecosystem in my pond and not very often do I change anything.

  • @ultimatefishkeeping

    I completely agree with you Tim.
    It is always best to do everything before you start introducing Fish to the Pond. I emphasis at the start of the construction of the Pond. So begin with thinking what type of Pond is it you want, a Wildlife, a Goldfish, or a Goi Pond, then plan from there and commence construction, getting and installing all the necessary equipment prior to filling up the Pond.
    Then monitor the Pond, running water analysis, and then begin introducing Fish to your Pond.
    Not too mention that the Filter needs to be able to back your Pond up.
    Once the pond build is complete and filled with H2O do not mess about with it.
    As the saying goes, do not try to fix something that is already working.
    Thankyou very much for sharing another great and enjoyable video.
    Like 284 is now up.
    Stay safe and take care Sir. 👍😊❤️

    So so true. Any tiny changes and the behaviour of the fish change. Even if it's just stopping the air for 5 minutes to do some videos and the fish all go in the corner and stop moving. So let alone when it's a massive change..
    Good video Tim!

    Not boring at all , Tim . Great advice for us with lesser experience .
    About a year ago , I changed over to a drum and moving bed set-up . Even though I`ve now got plenty of filtration , the fish wern`t right all year - flashing and sulking . I was constantly scraping and checking water perameters , but found nothing apart from the odd trich in the Spring . All I can think of , was its either the fluctuations in temperature ( unheated) , or , as you say , the fish were unsettled by the changes , I made .

    • @TimWaddington
      @TimWaddington  2 года назад +1

      Yes I would say they were unsettled. Maybe we need some kind of plan to do when changing the ponds. I don’t know what but I’m sure it could be sorted

    Makes perfect sense. Since I opened my pond in august 2020 I kept changing my filter systems from a box filter to a Eazypod to finally a nexus 220 and I had nothing but problems in the summer. So I am hoping now with the nexus in I will be good to go next season. As I am sitting on my hands and not messing with it now 👍

    • @TimWaddington

      That’s good mate but with a new pond you do need to check stuff every so often. Especially this time of year and depending where you are, PH crashes are common 👍🏻

    Great video Tim.
    I see lots of people on FB always tinkering with systems.
    Just look after your water and look at your fish they will tell you if there not happy.

  • @tonyfuller1466
    @tonyfuller1466 2 года назад +3

    Totally agree. I used to look after ponds, all different and the ones that were left alone had no problems. I think most of the problems people have had during covid lock downs are probably because of excessive tinkering when they've had nothing else to do.

    • @TimWaddington
      @TimWaddington  2 года назад +1

      Some people enjoy tinkering more than the actual Koi Keeping. Which is fine, it’s a hobby in itself.

    100% agree with Tim, all to the point and spot on with your comments, people fuck about all the time with working systems far to much, if it works don't fix it, I'm going to chuck another filter at something that is working. OG nexus user here still works on the OG K1

      It’s also a patience thing. People don’t like to wait for results so they change it, then change that etc. some people just like changing stuff.

    Hi could i ask whats your views of having plants in a pond im in 2 minds to take them out this year and having them sat in coping stones this year me and my son built my pond a few years ago sadly i lost him to cancer 6 months ago aged 16 years old he used to feed them every morning and night when he came home from school help me with all the maintenance bless him he loved his koi its only 10000 ltr im running a nexus220 bottom drain and a easypod on a skimmer

    • @TimWaddington
      @TimWaddington  2 года назад +1

      Plants are fine but you won’t get great water quality when the fish eat them etc. I always prefer separate area for them away from the pond.

    Hi Tim
    What do you think about water conditioning products such as medi-clay or koi masters advantage ? They presumably cause changes in water chemistry . Would you say they're beneficial or not ?

    • @TimWaddington
      @TimWaddington  2 года назад +1

      I don’t know enough on them to form an opinion. I personally do not use anything like that. I did years ago when they first came out but saw little difference. The newer ones maybe different to when I used them.
