Legacy Triathlon 2023 - What They Changed - Long Beach, CA

A long overdue 2022 update from Legacy Triathlon! Here, I give a brief recap of my race at Legacy Triathlon in Long Beach California. This USAT Sanctioned race is a great race to get your feet wet for all skill levels. The swim-bike-run courses are fun, fast, but also challenging for all athletes to experience possibly the same course the 2028 Olympic Triathletes will race in LA 2028 Summer Olympics. The courses have changed slightly for two years, but I expect the bike and run courses to be the same. I hope you all get some good tips from my experiences. Train hard and have fun!

8:05 As long as the lifeguard does not tow you or assist you in moving through the water in any way, it is not a DQ.
9:51 They did make a minor change from the year before on the bike. There was a pretty sharp turn just before you came back over the bridge to get back on Shoreline. They took it out for 2023, perhaps recognizing that it was too sharp of a turn for a draft-legal race, which is what the Olympics will be.
12:45 I would be really surprised to see the run course on the Boardwalk for the Olympics. For one thing, I doubt that they will get the necessary permission from the Coastal Commission to close it. Plus it is kind of out of view of the spectators.
It's a fast course, and I expect the Olympians to put up some pretty amazing times

Thanks for all of your comments! Yeah I can't wait to watch triathlon in Long Beach. Just having been on the course, we know exactly how the athletes will feel. My guess they will do multiple laps like in Rio 2016 for the sake of the spectators getting their money's worth.
