I hope people start understanding how truly gifted the age group athletes are. Some of them work just as hard as the pros. And to realize that the sprint, olympic, and half distances require equal commitment. Those shorter distances require completely different training, but just as difficult. My hat is off to all triathletes!
Not to mention that most all age group athletes do triathlons as a hobby. We have full time jobs, kids, coach kids sports, and little or no sponsorships. We do triathlons because we love the sport, and most days we have to overcome a dozen obstacles before we even get to train. I am not taking anything away from the pros because what they accomplish is amazing, but managing to complete an Ironman as a hobby is equally amazing.
i like your comment, how could I not as an Age grouper.. but to compare the sprint distance in terms of commitment to the ironman isn't fair imho, you also would not compare a 10k race to a marathon. Even the jump from 70.3 to ironman is another level altogether.
@@lukass5190 Respectfully, I think you share in a common misconception. My wife was an age grouper doing olympic distances, and she competed in worlds for Team USA. I can guarantee that her commitment was equal to or greater than many age groupers doing Ironman. Now if you're talking about freak-of-nature people like Gustav Iden...yeah, they are from Mars. Cheers!
@@hanbo123 Sounds to me like your wife has a pro background and would be hardly comparable to the average age group experience going from shorter distances to a full ironman, imho.
I had tears in my eyes multiple times! I finished my first Ironman in 2022 and know how hard it is. Thank you for giving the Age Groupers such a strong voice in this video and showing those remarkable individuals whom I have the strongest possible admiration for! What an amazing sport. What a gift to participate. What a privilege to finish it. Anything is possible 🚀
I learned to swim this year, I did all the distances within 5 months... ending with ironman finish of 12h.... I will be in Kona. I know it!!!! Thanks for the inspiration
That’s amazing. Yo have you considered doing an Aquabike or other triathlons to train? I am training for an Aquabike swimming and cycling. I am so proud of you @fifaliana joy.
@@jhesskeeptraveling I have not done an aquabike. I do like to run haha.... I am currently training for off road triathlon... seemed fun :D and thank you! It always seem impossible until you do it
Personally I don’t really care who is win, but I start care of all athletes who has same sports challenge spirit and make new story every year give great influence and contributions. Such a great sport event!!
Its great watching the video. Really brings it back. On race morning you are so focused on what you have to do to be ready to compete, finish, survive and nervous of the challenges ahead, that its hard to really soak it all in when you there. This was my 2nd Kona. I wasn’t as well prepared as I wanted, but I put together the best race I had that day, and thats all you can do. Race smart, and find your limits. Always humbling and awe inspiring.
I thought that the 2013 documentary was the best of the entire series. This 2022 documentary was twice as good as that one. Well done! I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster the entire time. How many times can you watch Chelsea Sodaro cross that finish line?
Wow a very well done video! Great job and extremely pro at weaving the individuals stories intot the fabric of the race. Whoeve did the editing, total bad ass.
Omg, every person in this video got a great history behind them. Fantastic. So much inspirational video. One day - i wil try for iron man medal. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sofia , yo soy colombianos viviendo en USA. Haré un Ironman el próximo año. Comencé a entrenar muy duro. El nado es lo que más me cuesta . Que orgullo nos das. Eres una verraca. Saludes y felicidades
Unbelievable footage!! Literally goosebumps performances all around. Blessed to be an athlete and follower of this amazing sport. One day I will become an IRONMAN!!
Brilliant documentary, this has changed my thoughts on an ironman from something i might attempt one day to something I absolutely have to do. Chris Nikic the althlete with down syndrome is so inspiring and epitomises what it means to break down barriers.
I plan on doing my first 1/2 this summer. I'm still trying to wrap my head around doing a full later on. The story of Chris Nikic was awesome. I loved that young mans swagger too, so cool. Of course I have my favorite pros too. I wish I would have started sooner, 58 now. Better late than never.
Okay I just attemoted my first full marathon on Sunday. Longest before was 5k. I finished last in my age group but I didn't care. I finished. Why am I on the verge of tears watching the first 10 minutes of this?
Please @Ironman consider rotating the world champs so we can all watch these athletes without bankrupting ourselves with an expensive trip to Hawaii. Kona is cool, but it would be great for the fans if we could see more easily see these incredible athletes at the pinnacle of the sport in person.
The documenting of the amazing achievements of professional but especially amateur athletes ruined by the sheer amount of ads. I appreciate ads are necessary to fund content but this is a bit ridiculous. What I thought would be a great video for an indoor bike session was actually just super annoying. Still inspiring not the less.
28:43 - really smart of that guy to recognize the abnormal pain he was feeling in his jaw and arm that it was a heart attack. Much better to quit the race and live another day for his family.
Welcome to the last epic documentary of Ironman Hawaii. Next will be a small town, somewhere in the nowhere of France, or any other meaningless place. I wonder how you will make this one epic. Not possible. Not the same.
Many people jumped on the wagon to help Chris Nikic once he became popular, before that it was always the same people that did not care about media and being popular they did it just to help him!
The documentary is well done. Really represents the race. Just don't understand why the men's and women's races are in the same video. This was the very reason the brand decided to keep the two world championships separated. As "women deserve a separate day", but apparently doesn't take away from their glory if they share a video with the men. Other than that all good :)
Triathlon is the sport. Ironman is a company that specialise in putting on long distance triathlons. They call their races Ironman but there are other long distance triathlon races, they’re just not allowed to be called Ironman because of copyright
The ads are the point. You've got to shift your perspective to the where you're telling yourself, "Wow, that was a GREAT AD! How soon is the next one? Hey, I'm going to buy everything they advertise!"...(ROFL)
Strange to hear narrator say that 37:18 " Fenella Langridge and Lucy Charles-Barkley and have formed an alliance of sorts trading positions working together." There's no drafting and you have to be 2 bike lengths apart, so I don't see how they worked as a team. It's not like road bike racing. There is no reduction in effort by drafting in triathlon. You do get, however, a nice 5 min drafting penalty if you do draft.
